Kiaclub Nieuwsrobot
Combining elegant simplicity with balanced proportions, plus a host of advanced features and new technologies, Kia’s all-new luxury flagship sedan Quoris went on sale in Korea on May 2. It tops Kia’s global model range and is a true landmark vehicle for the company. With V6 power and an eight-speed automatic transmission with shift-by-wire technology, Kia’s first modern rear-wheel drive vehicle will drive the Kia brand into what is an entirely new segment of the global market for the company. Exploring proportions that define luxury Styling for a rear-wheel drive platform has provided Kia’s design team with a fresh opportunity to explore proportions that define luxury. As a large 5.1-meter long (16.7 ft) rear-wheel drive vehicle, Quoris boasts a long 3,045 mm (9.99 ft) wheelbase which gives a generous first impression. As the engine is mounted further back, the A-pillar is also moved back to create a longer hood and an impressive short front overhang. Consequently, the distance between the center of the front wheel and the A-pillar – the so called “prestige distance” – is increased. Thanks to this long prestige distance and high shoulder line the glass house sits further back and the sheet metal-to-glass ratio is significantly increased. While the long prestige distance gives occupants a feeling of dignity, the high shoulder line provides sense of privacy. Distinctive window graphics [accentuated by a chrome inlay] give the flagship sedan a premium feel as well. Quoris’ overall width and height are 1,900 mm and 1,490 mm (6.2 ft, 4.9 ft) respectively, which create a spacious cabin environment, while close attention to exterior detailing has resulted in an efficiently streamlined shape with a highly competitive 0.27 Cd. V6 power and eight-speed transmission Kia’s new flagship sedan will be available in overseas markets powered by an upgraded 290 ps Lambda V6 3.8-liter MPI engine, with a 334 ps 3.8-liter GDI engine joining the global line-up of power trains next year. Kia’s engineers boosted the naturally aspirated Lambda V6’s power output, raised its efficiency and enhanced its refinement – making it well-suited to power the brand’s all-new flagship model. Every Quoris comes with Kia’s all-new eight-speed automatic transmission. The wide spread of ratios made possible with eight gears guarantees both brisk acceleration and high-speed refinement, while shift-by-wire [sBW] technology delivers fast, smooth gear changes. Rear-wheel drive characteristics “With the Kia Quoris we have achieved a near-perfect front/rear weight distribution, which has created a strong foundation for excellent balance and steering response, and a sophisticated blend of ride and handling qualities,’ comments Chang-Ky Kang, Senior Vice President of Namyang R&D Chassis Technology Center. Together with the ultra-stiff body shell made with 74.3 percent high-strength steel, Quoris’ electronically controlled air suspension with five-link front and rear geometry gives the flagship first-class ride and handling characteristics. Four driving modes [Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow] enable the driver to choose a preferred set-up of suspension, steering, engine and transmission characteristics that is ideal for various road conditions or driving styles. “’Quoris’ excellent balance delivers a host of driver benefits including improved traction and road holding, enhanced braking stability and faster turn-in. Adopting rear-wheel drive also enabled us to create a new purity of steering response and feel,” concludes Kang. High-tech luxury features new to Kia When it goes on sale in overseas markets, Quoris will premiere a range of high-tech luxury features new to Kia. Premium comfort features will include a 12.3-inch full size Thin Film Transistor (TFT) LCD cluster, a HUD (head-up display), twin 9.2-inch monitors for rear seat occupants, a 17-channel, 17-speaker Lexicon sound system and an Around-View Monitor (AVM) with four cameras. The infotainment system available for Quoris is powered by the Intel Atom processor – making its first appearance in a Kia and jointly developed by the two companies. The touchscreen on the dashboard allows the driver to take advantage of state-of-the-art functions and services, while the backseat display supports a wide variety of video formats to entertain passengers. A special ‘VIP’ option will offer twin head and ventilated rear seats with a reclining backrest, sliding cushion and lower leg support for the ‘nearside’ seat, together with a front passenger seat that slides forward when unoccupied, to offer exceptional space and comfort. Innovative ‘active’ and ‘passive’ safety systems All occupants of Quoris will benefit from a range of advanced range of ‘active’ and ‘passive’ safety technologies dedicated to providing them with maximized protection. Depending on trim level, available active safety features will include an Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFLS), a Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) with a forward-facing video camera, two radar-based safety systems, Blind-Spot Detection (BSD), Adaptive Smart Cruise Control (ASCC) and Advanced Vehicle Safety Management (AVSM) ASCC adjusts the vehicle’s speed to maintain the distance from the vehicle ahead – even bringing the Quoris to a complete stop if necessary. AVSM provides highly sophisticated integrated control of various systems if a potential collision is detected. For improved safety at night, the AFLS works in conjunction with the Quoris’ full LED headlights –reacting to vehicle speed and steering angle, to deliver the most appropriate light pattern. To alleviate the risk of bodily harm in the event of an accident, Quoris is fitted with a total of nine airbags – including dual front, twin front seat side and full-length curtain airbags, plus twin rear seat side airbags and a driver’s knee air bag. Kia’s engineers are confident that Quoris will achieve a ‘top score’ safety rating in official crash safety tests around the world. A true flagship for the Kia range Kia believes that Quoris will be a game-changer in terms of raising awareness and elevating consumers’ perception of the brand. Whatever expectations you may have, Quoris is set to exceed far beyond your imagination as the ultimate luxury flagship.
