Last month, Kia hosted the annual Kia World Extreme Games in Shanghai, China, at the Jiangwen Sports Centre, bringing together extreme sports stars and fans alike from all around the world. Over the course of four days from late April to Early May, over 200 of the world’s best extreme sports athletes traveled to Shanghai from almost 30 countries including Brazil, Japan, China and New Zealand. These athletes competed for titles in events such as BMX Freestyle, Aggressive Inline, Skateboarding, Speed Climbing and the newly-added International Freestyle Motocross (FMX) category. International superstars such as Vince Byron, Andy Macdonald, Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Mitchell Brusco, the Yasutoko Brothers and China’s Zhong Qixin were all present at the Kia World Extreme Games this year.

In addition to competitions, fans also enjoyed various extreme sports performances daily, with well-known stars like BMX legend Mat Hoffman (aka ‘The Condor’) putting on shows for his fans. And to celebrate the addition of the Motocross category to this year’s competition, fans enjoyed a spectacular show from two of Australia’s top riders, Michael ‘Chucky’ Norris and Joel Brown. Both riders performed their stunts while cruising in the air above a Kia Carens with the amazing backdrop of the Shanghai skyline.

And the winners are…

The Skateboard Mini-Mega competition birthed a new star, as new kid on the block, 13-year-old Trey Wood from the USA, took the top spot in his first-ever Mini-Mega competition. In the Skateboard Street Finals, 17-year-old Ryo Sejiri from Japan took the gold. The Inline Vert competition again brought gold and silver to the Yasutoko brothers, Eito and Takeshi, respectively. The siblings have now claimed the gold on the Vert for the past 8 consecutive years.

The top spot of the BMX Street competition went to Kevin Peraza from the USA, and Vince Byron took the gold for the BMX Mini-Mega event. And for the Skateboard Vert, the gold went to an overwhelmed Jimmy Wilkins, marking his first ever win in a skateboard competition.
