Ultimate upper-class SUV: the new Sorento

 On August 28, over 10 years since Kia‘s best-selling SUV first hit the global markets, Korea got the first real look at the third-generation Sorento. The all-new Sorento, which was officially unveiled to the media in Seoul, features more muscular, rounded shoulders at the rear.

This is the first major makeover for the Sorento in over 5 years, and as a testament to the Sorento’s popularity, Kia has high hopes, expecting to sell 270,000 of these third generation Sorentos worldwide next year.

The Kia design teams in Korea, Frankfurt and Irvine collaborated on the exterior design of the third generation Kia Sorento named their inspiration for the new car as ‘Streetwolf’. Designers subtly altered the character of the new Sorento, emphasizing a sportier look and highlighting its sleek, sinuous profile, while creating a sophisticated appearance and ensuring the new model has a bolder on-the-road presence. Interior styling was led by our European design team based in Frankfurt, and this team has created a more sophisticated, luxurious cabin, featuring significantly higher quality materials.

In addition to design, Kia engineers focused on strengthening the bodyshell structure and improving NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) characteristics to increase refinement and create a tranquil travelling environment that is as sophisticated as the new model’s styling. The team strived to achieve improvements in ride comfort and high-speed stability and handling response.
