Kia wins big again at Red Dot design awards

Continuing its winning streak, Kia has been recognized by the prestigious 2015 Red Dot design awards. This year, Kia is honored with two Red Dots for the Soul EV and all-new Sorento in recognition of their outstanding product design and exceptional details. Celebrating its 60^th anniversary this year, the Red Dot Awards is one of the most highly-respected international design competitions in the world. Since 2009, a total of 13 Kia models have been honored.

 

Kia Soul EV: Distinctive appearance and green technology

The Kia Soul EV, which took home the ‘Winner’ title, has taken the urban crossover Kia Soul to a whole new level with its upgraded design and technologies. This fashionable crossover vehicle has added signature two-tone colors to suit all styles and preferences.

Soul EV’s interior features technical innovations ranging from an organic light emitting diode (OLED) to the world’s first heating, ventilation and air conditioning system for ‘driver-seat only’ which can significantly boost energy efficiency. The spacious cabin and the plentiful range of 212 km from a single charge are additional characteristics not found elsewhere in its segment.

This is the first meaningful design accolade for Soul EV, which has already been honored with the Car of the Year title in Norway and MotorWeek’s 34^th annual Driver’s Choice Awards, while it has also proven its long range in a real-world range test done by Next Green Car.

All-new Sorento: An ideal SUV with elegant style and power

“The third generation of the Kia Sorento has a subtly altered character and has made a great leap forward in quality. The new model combines a classic SUV spirit with a premium look that is particularly noticeable in the interior,” commented Peter Schreyer, President and Chief Design Officer of the Kia Motors Corporation and the Hyundai Motor Company, in receiving the Red Dot ‘Honourable Mention’ distinction for the brand’s flagship SUV.

Developed under the guidance of the Kia’s design team in Namyang as well as with support from Kia design studios in Frankfurt and California, the all-new Sorento’s outstanding exterior and interior designs have also been recognized by the iF Design Awards. The spacious interior composed of wide, horizontal lines with luxurious details is capable of holding up to 1,732 litres of cargo in the luggage area.
