All-new Sportage: the ultimate climate test in Death Valley [Video]

At one of the hottest places on Earth, a fleet of Kia vehicles made an appearance for the ultimate test. In Death Valley, in eastern California in the U.S., the all-new Sportage underwent the final stages of its development with the most extreme and rigorous vehicle testing implemented by the company yet.

 

This ‘Hot Test’ was designed to test the durability of the all-new Sportage in the harshest environments, with the focus on its superior heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

 

Three sets of tests were conducted, including the up-hill climb, the stop-and-go drive and a slow drive. For the up-hill climb, the Sportage was driven on a steady climb over 27 kilometers (17 miles) at 100 kph (62 mph) after heating up to over 50ºC (122ºF) under the sun. The result? Extra heat and load placed on the engine had little impact on the Sportage’s cooling system!
