With the finals of the Australian Open 2016 coming up this weekend, the first Grand Slam  of the season will soon be coming to a close. Playing a key role in promoting the annual competition to worldwide fans, Kia Motors has enjoyed taking part in one of the most anticipated tennis events of the season. Find out what took place in the beautiful and sunny event grounds of Melbourne, Australia!

For this year’s tournament, Kia supplied an impressive fleet of 110 vehicles for use by tennis players, officials, event staff and fans. The fleet, composed of the Sorento, Sedona (Grand Carnival) and Cerato, demonstrated the strength and prowess of Kia vehicles by transporting thousands and covering more than 300,000 km during the duration of the tournament.

This year marked the second year of the launch of Kia’s X-Car, created in collaboration with Twentieth Century Fox and the X-Men franchise. Modeled after the elegant shape-shifting Mystique, the soon-to-be launched Sportage was transformed into a one-of-a-kind show car.

Tennis sensation and Kia brand ambassador Rafael Nadal was at the center of the grand unveiling of the all-new X-Car. Regarded as one of the most prominent left-handed tennis players of all time, Nadal invited fans to figure out the secret of his right arm in a stunningly captivating campaign film.

Nadal also participated in the official reveal of the X-Car in Melbourne at the Kia fleet handover ceremony. After the ceremony, the Mystique-inspired Sportage was displayed at the Grand Slam Oval located in Melbourne Park.

The annual Kia Open Drive series also commenced, revealing up-close interviews with tournament participants. Conducted in the all-new Sportage, our very own Nadal kick-started this year’s interviews discussing his love of cooking, playing with ping pong balls and showing off a fun new side of himself for global fans.

As a major sponsor of the Australian Open since 2002, Kia Motors is dedicated to supporting the growth of tennis in Australia and promoting the tournament to audiences worldwide. Check out the highlights of the Australian Open 2016 and don’t miss the exciting finals this weekend!
