Helping qualify it for the highest award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is the addition of optional automatic braking technology. Previously, the minivan’s front crash prevention rating was basic, but with the new technology it has received a superior rating. Like earlier models, the 2017 Kia Sedona earns good ratings in all IIHS crashworthiness evaluations. On IIHS track tests at 12 mph and 25 mph, a Sedona equipped with the new front crash prevention system avoided collisions. The system also includes a forward collision warning component that meets National Highway Traffic Safety Administration criteria. It must also earn an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention.
