For Kia, 2016 was a year filled with expansion, milestones and new potential. With new product launches, major anniversaries and exciting events and achievements scattered throughout the calendar, 2016 was consumed with excitement, inspiration and gratitude. Read below to learn more about some of the highlights of our year!






At the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January, Kia announced the launch of our cutting-edge autonomous technology under our DRIVE WiSE sub-brand. Kia is aiming to bring fully automated cars to the road by 2030 and go as far as realizing fully-connected intelligent vehicles.




As the second part of our 2020 Fuel Efficiency Road MapKia also laid out big plans for advancement in  eco-technology development and commercialization. The premiere of the Niro is just the beginning of Kia’s plans to become a leader in the hybrid and green car market.

Meanwhile, the al-new Cadenza premium sedan and best-selling Rio subcompact made successful world debuts in 2016.






Kia also had some very meaningful anniversaries to celebrate. 2016 marked the 10th year of Peter Schreyer as Chief Design Officer at Kia. As the man behind our design revolution, Mr. Schreyer’s decision to join Kia marked a significant turning point for the brand and celebrating 10 amazing years together was a very meaningful moment.




We also celebrated our 10-year partnership with the King of Clay, Rafael NadalHaving formed a relationship early in his career, it was special to talk to Rafa about changing and growing together over the decade.


Events and Achievements




Spirits were high as the UEFA EURO championships returned to Europe this year. As an official partner of the event, we did our part to intensify the excitement by involving fans and viewers in a range of engaging events throughout the competition.

Kia went on to receive some major awards regarding automobile design and quality. We also placed 69th on Interbrand’s best global brands list, rising five spots from the previous year.

Most recently, our Niro made a cross-country trip across the United States on approximately four takes of gas, ultimately setting a Guinness World Record for fuel efficiency.




As you can see, 2016 was a dynamic year of  major strides and achievements for Kia. Upholding our brand slogan, the Power to Surprise, we will be sure to bring more delightful surprises next year. Happy New Year!
