A fresh new look inside and out for the Kia Rio has been revealed at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The brand’s tiger-nose grille is still present, though it has been tweaked along with the front bumper for an updated appearance completed by new foglights. Three new alloy wheel designs can now be had on the car as well in either 15-, 16- or 17-inch sizes. To round out the exterior makeover, two new paint colors, Urban Blue and Digital Yellow, are now available on the Rio. Kia is set to debut an Optima concept featuring a diesel hybrid powertrain at this year’s Paris Motor Show. Earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, the Korean automaker revealed a new diesel hybrid powertrain and now its found a home in an Optima concept called the T-Hybrid. Boasting a 1.7-liter turbocharged diesel engine paired to an electric motor and a 48-volt lead-carbon battery, the Optima T-Hybrid is capable of driving in an all-electric mode at low speeds and when cruising while deceleration helps recharge the battery pack. The Kia Rio is headed for a mid-cycle refresh that will be on display for the first time next month during the Paris Motor Show alongside a re-designed Sorento crossover. Kia’s current sub-compact (pictured) model won’t go through any drastic changes, but the company will graft on a new front fascia while offering different wheels and new paint colors to choose from. The Forte and Soul models have both improved on the IIHS small overlap front test with the Soul earning a good rating, improving from its previous poor result. The 2015 Kia Sedona will keep the same price as the 2014 model year despite getting a facelift. The Korean automaker has announced that the updated minivan will be priced from $26,795 including destination and will be available in five trim levels: base L model, EX, LX, SX and premium SX Limited. Last year, the Sedona was only available in LX and EX trim. The mid-range Sedona EX will start at $32,995, which is a $1,200 increase over the 2014 Sedona EX while the Sedona SX will be priced from $36,995. The car with a hamster for a pitchman will soon try to push into sportier territory in an effort by Kia to expand its appeal. According to a recent report, the Korean automaker will transplant the 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the Forte to the Soul, giving the funky compact 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Currently, the Soul’s most powerful engine is a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter with 164 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque, so the turbo-four powerplant will certainly be a nice upgrade for those looking for more performance. The car will be available in two different trims, with the upper-level Soul Plus selling for $35,700. Both prices do not include a $7,500 federal tax credit that buyers receive for purchasing an EV.
