  5. It’s officially official. Here are all the details on Kia’s seven-passenger EV. Kia has teased, either via concept or official spy shot, the details about its seven-passenger EV; the EV9. Now, it’s here in all of its glory, it has made its official North American production debut at the 2023 New York International Auto Show. Soon, it’ll be rolling right into US and Canadian dealerships. 2024 EV9 GT-Line The EV9 is more than just a big EV SUV, which is a pretty important milestone in its own right. It’s part of Kia’s Plan S strategy, and the vehicle will act as the flagship for the entire lineup. “With the launch of the EV9, we are incorporating our experience in producing brilliantly designed, best-in-class SUVs with our deep expertise in developing the industry’s leading EVs,” said Sean Yoon, president, and CEO, of Kia North America. So, Kia put the expertise that it learned by building EVs like the Niro EV and EV6, into the EV9. The brand focused on important things like interior room, cargo, fast charging speeds, and even towing capability. Sizewise, the EV9 is a little longer than the Telluride – 197.4 inches long. With all three rows seats up, the EV9’s 20.1 cubic feet, or about the same as you’d get in the Telluride. Although, with all three rows folded, the EV9 doesn’t quite offer as much room. The EV9 still manages to fit seven whole seats in its boxy body, without a headroom-compromising roofline found on other big EV crossovers like the Tesla Model X. Kia says that each seat in the EV9 is considered executive class, with the second row offering goodies like power operated seats with footrests. We’ve seen the EV9 before. Over the last few weeks, the brand has slowly let images out of the boxy crossover. With its official North American debut, nothing has changed from what Kia showed off in South Korean photos. The E-GMP platform allows for a long wheelbase with very short overhangs. Kia says it has reinterpreted its Tiger Nose design for the EV9, now called Tiger Face for its interpretation here. Overall, the EV9 is a blocky, chiseled design that looks a lot like the Telluride but punched way up to the max. Like other E-GMP platform cars, the EV9 has multiple battery and motor options. The standard range EV9 will come with a 76.1 kWh battery, sending energy to a single, rear-mounted motor worth 215 horsepower turning the rear wheels. An optional 99.8 kWh battery will give the EV9 more range; Kia promises around 300 miles (not yet officially confirmed) worth in single motor form. For those in search of more power or all-weather traction, Kia will offer a dual-motor AWD setup with 379 horsepower and 516 ft-lbs of torque. The AWD system is torque vectoring, too. 2024 EV9 GT-Line The EV9 has the same 800v architecture as the EV6, and Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, so ultra-fast DC fast charging will be in this electric crossover’s domain. Also, it can tow up to 5,000 lbs, depending on trim. Other niceties like over-the-air (OTA) updates, digital key, and advanced ADAS systems will all be available on the EV9. The EV9 will officially go on sale in the fall of 2023. Interestingly, the brand is aiming for North American production (West Point, GA) to start in 2024. Become an AutoGuide insider. 12. We’ve got some more details about Kia’s fully-electric family hauler. We already know what the Kia EV9 looks like. It’s boxy, cool, and ready to be probably the first entrant on sale in the mainstream EV 7-seater class. Yet, when Kia dropped the pictures, the brand didn’t give us much else. Until now; Kia has released a few more pictures and details about the forthcoming EV9 crossover. Yet again, like the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and Genesis GV60, the EV9 uses the same E-GMP platform that underpins those smaller models. Likewise, it has the same 800V architecture that allows for ultra-fast DC fast charging. In all, Kia is aiming for 336 miles of range, albeit that’s based on the fairly generous WLTP cycle. The EV9 will come in two different battery sizes; 76.1-kWh battery, or a 99.8-kWh battery. The smaller battery will only come on the standard range RWD model, whereas the larger battery will be equipped on all other trims. The RWD models will be powered by a single motor setup producing either 201 horsepower in the long-range form, or 214 horsepower in standard range trim. The AWD models will be dual-motor, and generate nearly 380 horsepower. Also, Kia says it will offer an optional performance boost that can be purchased and installed as an OTA update, after the vehicle’s launch. In all, Kia is throwing a plethora of driver-assist tech, and leaning hard into a software-heavy EV platform. Pricing and the actual confirmed EPA-tested range haven’t been released yet, but we expect the EV9 to crest 300 miles, or at least come close to it. Kia says the 2024 Kia EV9 will go on sale in the second half of this year. Become an AutoGuide insider. 24. It’s finally here, and boy howdy is it huge. The Kia EV9 has been unveiled, and it’s a huge, futuristically boxy family-sized EV that seats six or seven people. Staying somewhat close to the concept, this 99% production-intent version takes a lot of elements seen from the concept and translates them into a stylish, big crossover. The styling language is undeniably boxy, with straight chiseled lines, and surfacing that reminds of us something from Tron Legacy. The EV6 is a little big bigger than the Telluride, but its styling seems to hide all that visual mass. Floor-to-ceiling taillights dominate the rear fascia, and in all, the EV9 is a lovely, blocky big crossover. We’re glad Kia didn’t simply stick a whole bunch of batteries under a Telluride, although given how good the Telluride is, that wouldn’t have been a bad thing. The EV9 has a lot of thoughtful touches that elevate it past other traditional big crossovers, like the second-row seats that can swivel 180 degrees to face the rear seats. The dashboard is surprisingly conventional, featuring a twin-screen setup that we’ve seen in a lot of modern Kia products of late. There appear to be physical buttons for HVAC commands and other vehicle functions. 2024 EV9 Kia had flown a few journalists to South Korea for a hands-on first look at the EV9, but no other information about the EV9 has been officially confirmed yet. Some information about the EV9 may have leaked, but Kia has not confirmed range, power, or battery size. To us, the Kia EV9 looks to be right on the money, for what consumers are looking for in a big EV crossover. Sure, the EV9 isn’t the first seven-seat EV, but it could be the first one that’s reasonably priced for families. The only other seven-seat EVs are expensive luxury cars, like the Rivian R1S, or offer tiny, unusable third-row seats, like the Mercedes-Benz EQB. Of course, there’s the VinFast VF9, but that vehicle only seems to exist in theory. 2024 EV9 The official Kia EV9 debut will happen later this month. Become an AutoGuide insider.
