  2. Kia customers will benefit from the next generation Picanto’s greatly reduced CO2 emissions and improved fuel economy when the company’s latest A-segment hatchback goes on sale around the world later this year. Making its global premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March, new Picanto has been redesigned and re-engineered with stand-out styling that conveys a sense of solidity and maturity. Longer than the previous model, and with an extended wheelbase, new Picanto promises more passenger comfort and 27% increased cargo space. Offered for the first time with a choice of five-door and three-door bodystyles, it is set to completely redefine its position as one of the most competitive vehicles in the global ‘city car’ A-segment. Buyers of new Picanto will be presented with a choice of four all-new super-efficient powertrains – three versions of the 1-liter, three-cylinder Kappa engine (gasoline, flex fuel and bi-fuel) and a single 1.2-liter four-cylinder gasoline Kappa power unit – depending on individual markets. Power outputs will range from 69 to 85 ps, with maximum torque between 94 and 121 Nm. Exhaust emissions have been significantly reduced, so that regular models in the new Picanto line-up will have a CO2 rating of 95 to 105 g/km. The bi-fuel 1-liter engine will generate 82 ps and 94 Nm of torque. Fuel economy will range from 4.2 to 5.9 liters per 100 km, contributing to lower running costs. In Europe, all models will be available with Kia’s fuel-stretching ISG technologies, cutting emissions to between 90 and 100 g/km – so that every model qualifies for local emissions-based tax savings, where available – and improving fuel economy to a range of 4.1 to 5.6 liters per 100 km. The engines will be mated to a choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions, depending on market. New Picanto is destined to be a highly competitive newcomer in the A-segment. As well as offering new levels of powertrain efficiency, it boasts a distinctive exterior, sophisticated interior, and numerous ‘large car’ advanced comfort and safety features like LED daytime running lights, button-start with smart key, grip-type outside door handles and six or seven airbags, depending on region. The new Picanto will also maintain Kia’s reputation for delivering great value. The next generation Picanto will make its global premiere on the Kia Stand (Number 6441, in Hall 6) on March 1, the opening press day of the 2011 Geneva International Motor Show. 5. Kia‘s Rondo small minivan and Borrego SUV have been dumped from the U.S. lineup, ostensibly after slow sales forced Kia to cease importation. Although originally reported by Automotive News, Kia declined to comment on the matter. The Borrego was never a strong seller in the U.S., although the large SUV, along with the Rondo small minivan will continue being sold in Canada and other markets. The Rondo is successful north of the border, and with the arrival of the Ford C-Max and Chevrolet Orlando (also exclusive to Canada), the car’s future looks pretty solid in that market. 6. With the start of a New Year, many people enjoy making new resolutions that they may or may not keep. Kia Argentina, though, is letting people set out five year goals for themselves and then letting it go cyber for the world to see. How’s that for motivation? Through the ‘Capsula Kia’ campaign, people can visit Kia’s greeting box in Pinamar, (a coastal resort town on the east coast of Argentina) to select a goal they would like to accomplish in the next five years. Their photo and five-year goal are posted onto Kia Argentina’s Facebook fan page (click here to visit the page). Fans can then see their photo and goal on the page and share with their friends – it’s a full 360 degree campaign for people to enjoy! In addition to sharing and posting their goals for all to see, visitors are also motivated to accomplish their goal since they will receive an email from Kia in five years! The same photo (posted on Facebook like a time capsule) will be sent to each of the participants by email and remind them that of their goal they set up five years ago. We look forward to learning how many people actually achieve the goals they’ve set out five years from now. We’ll keep you posted! For those of you who can’t travel all the way to Pinamar, what are your five year goals? Array Array Array Array Array Array Array Array Array Lees hele artikel
  7. Hyundai was able to achieve a 45 percent market share in South Korea in 2010, falling well below its target of 52 percent. Luckily, the failure to meet the target thanks to phenomenal growth from the Kia brand, owned by Hyundai and Kia’s new Optima and Sportage. For 2011, Hyundai is targeting a more modest 47 percent with their new Grandeur sedan and the Veloster sports coupe. Hyundai’s main competitors, Daewoo and Renault-Samsung, lag behind Kia and Hyundai significantly. South Korea still remains Hyundai’s largest market despite phenomenal growth in the United States. 12. The Kia Rio is well overdue for a replacement, and with a new Hyundai Accent on the way, it stands to reason that its platform-mate will also get a thorough re-design. Although only a sketch has been released so far, the familiar design language brought forth by Kia styling boss Peter Schreyer. Mechanically, the car should share the new Accent’s 1.6L Gamma 4-cylinder, which is estimated to return 37 mpg in the city and an astounding 50 mpg on the highway. Full details will be revealed at the Geneva Auto Show in March. Until then, see AutoGuide’s complete 2011 Geneva Auto Show preview here. Hit the jump to see the official press release NEXT GENERATION RIO MARKS NEXT BIG STEP IN KIA’S DESIGN REVOLUTION The first official sketches of the next generation Kia Rio revealed today show a powerful, bold design that marks “the next big step” in the company’s ongoing design revolution. Longer, lower and wider than the existing Rio, the new model is designed to inject emotional appeal into the B-segment, targeting progressive, energetic consumers who want a stand-out design. Described by Kia’s Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, as ‘sporty and elegant’, the B-segment newcomer has a swept-back profile and a character line rising out of the front wheel which gives it a sense of movement and fluidity, even when stationary. Inside, new Rio will offer a feeling of quality typically associated with larger, more expensive models. “Downsizing is becoming more and more of a trend these days and a B-segment car as attractive as all-new Rio, with its driver-oriented cabin and interior trim options, will no doubt help consumers to be more comfortable making that switch. New Rio is the ‘next big step’ in Kia’s design revolution and we anticipate this model becoming even more popular than the current vehicle,” comments Soon-Nam Lee, Director of Overseas Marketing, Kia Motors Corporation. The new Kia Rio will make its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday, March 1 2011. The current Kia Rio was the company’s third best-selling vehicle in overseas markets during 2010 with sales of more than 205,000 units. Lees het hele artikel

  16. If any other automaker announced they wanted to bring back the van, we would have expected something practical and utilitarian. We’d picture a family-friendly minivan or perhaps a commercial vehicle for small businesses. But when a company like Kia says it, we expect something entirely different. After all, this is the company that gave us giant hamsters. So when Kia said they wanted to bring back the van, they weren’t thinking soccer mom. No, they wanted to re-imagine the fun, ’70s-style “activity vehicle” for today’s consumers. Picture what a 21st century Scooby-Doo and the gang would drive. Enter the KV7, a new concept unveiled at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. On first glance, the KV7 looks like a slightly larger Soul. Kia decided to embrace the idea of a van as a box on wheels. The A-pillar and windshield design are more vertical than what we find on most mini-vans, emphasizing the KV7′s box-like shape. Adding to the box motif are the vertical LED headlights and horizontal rear brake light. The KV7′s dimensions aren’t that far off from traditional mini-van designs. The KV7 stretches out 191.85 inches long and 80 inches wide with a 122-inch wheelbase. Under the hood is Kia’s Theta II 2.0 GDI turbocharged engine and an automatic six-speed transmission. Kia claims 285 hp and estimated 30 mpg. The gullwing side door opens to reveal an interior that’s even quirkier than the exterior. Rotating banana-yellow seats? Check. Teak wood flooring? Check. Floating table-top touchscreen computer? Check. Retractable dash board? Check. Again, if this were any other company, we’d expect an eventual production model would have very little in common with the concept. But once more, this is Kia. As Kia proudly reminds us, its production models like the Soul, Forte Koup and Sportage didn’t venture too far from their original concepts. We’ll have to wait and see what the production version of the KV7 will look like. Until then, we’ll just have to start stocking up on the Scooby Snacks.
