The Insurance Institute For Highway Safety awarded the Mazda 3 with its Top Pick honor in the small car category. The Mazda3 met the criteria by scoring a “Good” rating in all crash test categories (front, side, rear and rollover) and has electronic stability control. The Mazda3 is the first car from the automaker to score a Top Pick since the IIHS enacted new roof strength regulations, but it is also joined by 12 other small cars in receiving the accolade, including the Honda Civic, Chevrolet Cruze and Kia Forte. While the Mazda3 was judged to be capable of withstanding forces on the roof equal to more than five times the vehicle’s weight, the IIHS noted that injuries to the pelvis, ribs and right leg are possible, although the risk is low. Deze week heb ik helaas mijn Kia Picanto 1.0 september 2004 met 20.000 km, die ik van mijn schoonouders overgenomen heb, naar de garage moeten brengen omdat ik een vreemd geluid hoorde tijdens het rijden. Gisteren de Kia garage gebeld waar mij verteld werd dat de krukas uitgelopen is en men bij Kia NL gevraagd heeft of dit onder garantie valt. Ik moet hierover echter nog teruggebeld worden. Verder he ik eens op internet gekeken en heb bedragen van over de Eur. 2000.00 voorbij zien komen voor het vervangen van een kapotte krukas. Ik houd mijn hart dus vast. Omdat ik weinig verstand van auto's heb zou ik graag willen weten of dit eigenlijk wel mag gebeuren met een auto met zo weinig km. en die altijd door de dealer ondehouden is. Kan ik eigenlijk nog ergens reachten aan ontlenen en aanspraak maken op garantie mbt fabrikagefouten of zo ? Lees het hele artikel

Today I will give you an account of the highlight of the Geneva Motor Show. I will focus on the Kia Motors press conference and an interview with the designer of our hero car – the all-new Rio. The Kia Motors press conference was scheduled for 15:45 ~ 16:00, and to get a good spot I had to wait from 15:00. I could feel the media’s burning interest in the all-new Rio and Picanto which were making debuts at the show. 3:45 pm sharp! The Kia Motors press conference started with many journalists in attendance. Kia Vice Chairman Hyoung-Keun Lee gave a corporate overview speech and then Paul Philpott, COO of Kia Motors Europe, delivered his introduction of the Rio and Picanto, followed by the photo time. I am pretty sure that most of you Kia BUZZ readers have seen the video of the press conference, but here it is for those of you who haven’t. After the speeches were over, I talked with other reporters, and learned that they were very interested in Picanto, but also that they were particularly interested in Rio. They said its design can stack up to that of European competitors. I also met with Massimo Frascella (Kia Design Center America), who designed the exterior of the Rio. Let’s take a look. A brief stay at the motor show allowed me to get a feel for a few current trends in the automobile industry. I will summarize them here. First is the diversification of green cars. Typically, Toyota’s Prius hybrid car had been the brand’s representative green vehicle, but at this show Toyota showcased various new green cars like the Prius PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle), IQ EV and Highlander FCELL to gauge market reaction. On a personal note, it was quite interesting that even Rolls Royce, the ultimate luxury car brand, showcased its 10EX in line with the green car fever. Kia meanwhile displayed our environment-friendly technology with the Optima Hybrid, all-new Picanto low CO2 (90g), and all-new Rio low CO2 (85g, the lowest CO2 emission). The second clear trend was the downsizing of powertrains. In recent years, to cope with high oil prices due to the current Middle East situation, I could see that car makers are developing and applying new, smaller powertrains for high fuel efficiency and low CO2, with high-performance taking a backseat. Typical examples were the BMW X1, which comes with the a 2.0-liter turbo engine (242 horsepower) replacing the existing 3.0-liter gasoline engine (258 horsepower), and Fiat 500, which featured a 2-cylinder 0.9-liter turbo engine (65 horsepower) which replaces a 4-cylinder 1.2liter gasoline engine (69 horsepower). Kia also introduced a 1.0-liter Kappa turbo engine, which boasts improved output and fuel efficiency while retaining a relatively small displacement. Lastly, what caught my eye was the reinforced small and medium-sized lineup of luxury brands. In Europe, the A, B and C segments have been very popular, and as high-end products are also popular in the small-size segment, premium brands are seeking to make further improvements. In particular, Audi revealed the 4-door premium A3 compact concept car based on the A3 hatchback. Its single frame grille is more aggressive than that of the current A3 hatchback and its roof line reminds us of a coupe. It was quite impressive. Particularly, when it comes to engine performance, the 2.5 gasoline turbo engine boasts 408 horsepower. Since the Geneva Motor Show is the first large-scale motor show of the year in Europe, I have a hunch that these trends will continue at various motor shows that will be held this year. While forced induction has long been in favor in the rest of the world, Americans have often favored big displacement motors, but recent trends towards fuel economy have necessitated a shift to smaller motors, and turbocharging is considered the optimal way to stretch 4-cylinders into feeling like 6. Honeywell, one of the largest manufacturers of turbochargers, is forecasting use of turbochargers to double in time for strict new fuel economy regulations that are set to take effect in 2015. Honeywell expects 20 percent of engines to use turbochargers by then, up from 9 percent in 2010. However that number lags behind Europe’s 67 percent figure and 28 percent in India. While turbochargers previously carried negative connotations in the United States, the need for more power and efficiency has led them out of a small performance niche and into the mainstream. Ford expects 90 percent of its lineup to offer a turbocharged Ecoboost motor by 2013, and Chevrolet’s Cruze Eco, one of its heavily promoted “green” cars, uses a small turbocharged engine to deliver 40 mpg. Maakt niet uit koud of warm. Het is een steeds terugkomende storingUitlezen geeft enkelt een fout op de lamba.Als ik echter de bougie van 3 naar 4 verplaats dan vonkt de bougie gewoon. Kabels idem.Wanneer ik de stekker van de injector eraf haal bij cilinder 3 veranderd er niets. Bij de andere cilinders wel.Vandaar mijn vraag of het vaker vookomt dat de injectoren zelf kapot gaan of verstopt raken.Scope beeld opvragen via de uitlezer pakt hij bij deze kia niet. The competition’s jury of respected international design experts bestowed coveted red dot awards on the Kia Sportage compact CUV and Kia Optima sedan. The judges also paid a special tribute to the new mid-size Kia Optima sedan, which claimed the 2011 red dot ‘best of the best’ title, the competition’s highest distinction, for which only the best products in each category are eligible. These latest wins bring the number of Kia models to receive a red dot award to four models – with the Kia Venga winning in 2010 and the Kia Soul in 2009. Kia‘s new designs are helping brand the Korean automaker in a more positive light, particularly here in North America with the stylish new Optima. But in other parts of the world mid-size sedan’s don’t hold the same cache, nor do they sell all that well, so Kia is looking at alternative ways to create a boost in brand image. In a recent interview, Kia product boss Benny Oeyen commented on three such methods, including a hot hatch, convertible or coupe. While the coupe idea, along the lines of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, may seem like the obvious choice, it’s the hot hatch the is the most likely. The reason for this is the importance of small hatchbacks in other parts of the world, like in Europe were sub-compact models, like Kia’s new 2012 Rio, make up the majority of sales for automakers. A Rio hot-hatch is also the easiest to bring to market, as it would be based on the existing new car. Plus, it helps put the brand focus exactly where Kia wants it to be. Exactly what a juiced-up Rio might bring to the table is unclear, with standard models in Europe getting 1.4-liter gasoline and diesel engines as well as a tiny 1.25-liter gas engine. One possibility is the 138-hp 1.6-liter 4-cylinder that’s expected to come standard in the North American model, although for a ‘hot hatch’ we’d like to see more.
