Hyundai Motor Group, the parent company for Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp., has said that both Korean automakers will be bolstering their engine lineups with more turbocharged and diesel offerings in the near future.

To go along with the new powerplants, the Korean automakers are also working on new transmission technologies to help maintain their positive momentum. The current Hyundai Genesis and Equus are both offered with an eight-speed transmission, while six-speed transmissions have become standard through the Kia lineup and Hyundai’s more popular vehicles.

The announcement came at the 2012 Hyundai-Kia International Powertrain Conference, an annual event that is hosted near the company’s R&D Center in South Korea. Unfortunately, the Korean automakers didn’t give a time frame as to when we can expect more turbocharged powerplants, or which markets they will be targeting with their diesel engines.
