In an effort to keep sales coming in, Kia is unveiling its refreshed 2014 Optima mid-size sedan at the 2013 New York Auto Show.

The car now comes with LED fog and front position lights as well as LEDs taillights. Improvements continue with the interior where drivers will find a 4.3-inch TFT instrument display and an optional eight-inch infotainment screen. Kia is also offering an optional blind spot monitoring system that includes rear cross-traffic alert.

Standard features include chrome exhaust tips on the entry-level LX model, mirror-integrated turn signals, fog lights, heated mirrors and 16-inch alloy wheels. A six-speed automatic transmission is also standard equipment, which will stand out to most consumers compared to competing cars like the Mazda6 that still charge for that equipment.

It the same powertrain and trim levels: a 2.4-liter four cylinder or a stronger 2.0-liter turbocharged unit.

Selectable drive modes will also be available in the Optima for the first time, although that will be limited to the sportier SX version. Selecting the performance mode won’t toy with throttle response as it does in many others, but it will increase steering weight and alter the transmission’s shift point.
