A large explosion in China has claimed at least 50 lives and over 8,000 vehicles have been destroyed as a result.

Currently it’s still unclear what caused the explosions, which injured over 700 people.

According to a recent report, around 4,000 Hyundai and Kia vehicles were destroyed in the disaster, as well as 2,750 Volkswagens and 1,500 Renaults. Toyota also confirmed to Automotive News that it lost vehicles but currently doesn’t have a count.

Volkswagen released a statement concerning the terrible accident, confirming that none of the vehicles involved will ever make it to market. Toyota added that two employees at a nearby dealership were injured by broken glass but suffered no employee fatalities. Both General Motors and Ford reported no damages.

Tianjin is one of China’s biggest automobile shipping ports and is the 10th largest port in the world. The city has over 15-million people and is located about 75 miles from Beijing.
