2017 Kia Cadenza Aces IIHS Crash Tests

The 2017 Kia Cadenza has received a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The redesigned model earned a good rating in the small overlap front test, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.

It’s the first Cadenza to be tested by IIHS for small overlap front protection, which replicates what happens when the front driver-side corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object. According to IIHS, the 2017 Kia Cadenza’s driver space was maintained well, with maximum intrusion of four inches at the parking brake pedal. The airbags and safety belt did their jobs to control the dummy’s movement and measures taken from the dummy showed a low risk of significant injuries.

In addition, the Cadenza’s optional front crash prevention system avoided collisions in IIHS track tests of 25 mph and 12 mph. There is also a forward collision warning component that meets National Highway Traffic Safety Administration criteria.

Earning an acceptable headlight rating are the LED lights that come with the Limited and Technology trims, offering fair to good visibility in all scenarios. The halogen lights that come with the Premium trim earned a poor rating.

In order for a vehicle to earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award, it must have good ratings in all five crashworthiness tests, an available front crash prevention system with an advanced or superior rating and headlights that earn an acceptable or good rating.
