Certain Kia Soul models have been recalled in the United States for an issue related to the power steering.

According to the automaker, affected models may have a faulty steering pinion plug that allows the pinion gear to separate from the steering rack, causing the vehicle to lose steering functionality. Kia says 342,381 vehicles are affected, all built between July 21, 2013 and September 30, 2015.

Kia will contact owners of affected models starting on November 16th. It will then instruct customers to book an appointment with their dealer, where the pinon plug will be inspected, replaced and secured. If necessary, the entire steering gear assembly will be replaced.

The Korea, automaker recalled the Soul for the exact same reason in 2015. That recall affected 2014, 2015 and 2016 model year vehicles, whereas this recall affects those model years plus 2017. The previous fix apparently didn’t work, as vehicles recalled under the last notice have also been lumped in with this one.

The NHTSA recall bulletin did not indicate if any crashes or injuries have been linked to this issue.
