Hi,

I’m an expat and Dutch needs a translator. I can read your Dutch but there’s a chance that you will not understand mine ;-)

I have a 2020 soul 64KW battery EV. It basically never charges faster than 50kw. Half the time the FastNed chargers on the highway give an error or flat out refuse to charge.
KIA says that this is normal and that I can only fast charge under very specific circumstances. They say there are many variables and that the car is perfectly fine.
I don’t actually know anyone who drive a soul and I have been getting stonewalled for a year now ! So I am wondering if it’s just me. Does your soul charge faster than 50kw?
Thanks

I use car scanner and a OBD-dongle to check on battery-temperature and it will charge at  60-70 kW if that temperature is in the range of 25-30 degree Celcius.

Mine is a 2020 E-Soul too, but I have only 'fastcharged' it about 6 times until now.

When I did that on my only trip over 750 km (late februari) it charged on average over 60 kW ( I started @ 100% and pre-heated, first chargestop was @ 25-30% and batterytemperature was over 20 C ).

On shorter trips I (fast-)charge only as much I need to get home, and usually that stays under 50 kW too, but no errors ( yet, fingers crossed).

So I looked around and read a bunch from others. SOC is 45% right now and it’s 19^ in the shade. I drove like an aso for 30Km. Left lane gaspedaal to the floor regen on full airco on full everything that I would normally never do. Stopped at the FastNed here on the A2 it went to 54kw right away and after a couple minutes it’s charging at 74kw! It’s absolutely insane that you need to drive like an idiot if you want to fast charge. It charged @74kw from 45% to 57% and now it’s back down to 56kw. So if I want to fast charge from 20% I just need to drive 25km in a way that is personally unacceptable just before hitting the charge station?

That's just the gist of it 😉. It's no use to try and fastcharge when you 're just started driving a cold car.

But on long(er) trips, and especially if you started with a full (80%+) battery, your battery will heat up enough during your trip to allow for fast(er) charging.

Each fast DC charging in itself wiil assist in keeping the batterytemperature up.

For long trips I can have the luxury of charging (at home) overnight, and thus pre-heating the cabin to start with a comfy car and warm battery.

I still haven't tried out fast charging yet. I'll let you if I encounter the same problem too.
