But the great strides made by Kia mean that the Optima is now a worthy competitor in the mid-size segment, according to Consumer Reports. While the Nissan Altima took the top spot in the rankings, the Optima took second place, one point ahead of the third place Honda Accord. The Optima also bested the Toyota Camry, a long-running favorite of American car buyers. While the magazine praised the car’s handling, transmission, controls, fuel economy and crash worthiness, they criticized its poor rear visibility and noisy cabin.
