At the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show today, Kia unveiled its redesigned 2014 Sorento crossover, packing plenty of changes including a new 3.3-liter V6 engine. According to the Korean automaker, over 80 percent of the parts on the 2014 Sorento are either all new or significantly redesigned. It will also be the Korean automaker’s first vehicle to offer its next-generation UVO eServices voice-activated telematics system. Kia has confirmed that a fast version of the Pro_cee’d will be coming to take on the Ford Focus ST and Volkswagen GTI, though the brand has already said that the Pro_cee’d GT is not destined for the U.S. The Pro_cee’d GT will use a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine sourced from the Veloster turbo that makes 200 hp, mated exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission according to CAR. The interior of the car will be complete with red stitching and GT badging. Other new features seen in the teaser sketch released by the brand include oversize wheels, LED running lights and a new front fascia, all giving the car a sportier look. As expected, the 2014 Kia Forte sedan will be making its North American debut at the 2012 LA Auto Show later this week. The new sedan was launched earlier this year in Korea as the K3 sporting a longer, wider, and lower body than its predecessor. After admitting to overstating fuel mileage on many of their cars, both Hyundai and Kia are seeing “purchase intent” numbers dropping, according to data from Edmunds. Hyundai and Kia’s marketing heavily relied on their vehicles achieving 40 mpg or more, but the brand’s images have now been tainted by the mpg mess up, and share prices have already taken a hit because of it. The “purchase intent” for Hyundai’s Elantra, previously touted as a 40 mpg model, has gone from 6.7 percent on October 28, down to 6.3 percent as of November 18. Building off four consecutive years of growth, Kia is looking to launch 51 new or updated models by the end of 2016. The Korean automaker has seen four years of record production, sales, and profit figures, and looks forward of moving into the future by entering new markets. As Kia continues to enjoy continued growth, the Korean automaker’s CEO is looking ahead to the future and wants to launch a flagship sports car to continue pushing the brand forward. A couple of weeks ago, Kia debuted five Justice League concept models at the 2012 SEMA Show, and now the Korean automaker has released a video of the unveiling. In a sea of modified and custom cars, setting yourself apart from the crowd is no easy task. This year, Kia decided the best way to do so was to create superhero-inspired rides from its model lineup, which turned out to be a huge hit with the show goers. The lineup included a custom Kia Rio with an Aquaman theme, a Flash Forte Koup, a Green Lantern Soul, a Cyborg-inspired Forte Five-Door, and an Optima featuring plenty of Batman goods. Kia Motors Worldwide Facebook page just launched a new game called “BeatPop”, an addictive game reminiscent of Bejeweled except with Kia’s vehicles embedded inside these gems. It presents a screen of 64 cartoon cars, in a matrix of eight vertical columns and eight horizontal rows. You need to line up three identical cars by swiping the screen vertically or horizontally in one mouse move, resulting in “combo”. A second lawsuit is now being brought against Hyundai and Kia for their incorrect mpg claims, seeking $775 million on behalf of 23 plaintiffs. It was filed in the U.S. Central District Court in Los Angeles, and is seeking compensation for lost resale value on the customers Hyundai and Kia models. After admitting to incorrect fuel mileage claims on about 900,000 vehicles, Hyundai and Kia are now faced with a lawsuit that is seeking class-action status and unspecified damages. The suit was filed on Sunday in the U.S. District Court of Southern Ohio, and is aiming to get attorney’s fees, class-action designation, as well as unspecified damages that were incurred as a result of the incorrect stated fuel economy. The suit is also trying to get permission for buyers to back out of their purchase or lease agreements on the affected vehicles, specifically for Ohio consumers. Last week Hyundai and Kia made an embarrassing confession; they’ve been overstating the fuel efficiency of their vehicles for the past three years. This miscalculation includes most of the models in both of their lineups. To make things right the South Korean automakers are readjusting the numbers and reimbursing customers.
