  3. A vehicle’s steering response is rarely something the driver has the option of changing. Some cars have a more aggressive steering setup that works remarkably well for performance-oriented driving but is less than ideal for other road situations. But what if there were a way to dynamically adjust a vehicle’s driving mode to suit your driving preferences whenever you wanted? Kia’s Drive Mode Select function available on many of our cars allows you do just that. By adjusting the engine, gearbox response, and steering weight, the system allows drivers to customize and optimize the steering feel of Kia vehicles. With the push of a single button, Kia drivers can gain a greater sense of control and comfort. While most Kia models featuring Drive Mode Select have three different driving modes to choose from, the eagerly anticipated Kia Stinger fastback sedan has a total of five modes for a truly outstanding driving experience under any road circumstance or condition. Here’s a quick guide to the Stinger’s five drive modes. Sport Mode With Sport Mode, every driver input translates into a more intimate driving experience. Most commonly used when driving on the highway, Sport Mode makes steering more responsive and performance-oriented by offering better handling and greater control at higher speeds. Targeted towards car enthusiasts, the Stinger’s Sport Mode prioritizes performance over everything else. It gives the steering a weightier feel, quickens throttle response and transitions the paddle-shift gearbox to provide a boost of sportiness. The electronic safety nets give a little more freedom, allowing you to enjoy the car’s playful rear-wheel drive balance without any risk of losing traction. To make every function of the vehicle’s engine more sensitive and responsive, Sport+ Mode, which is an exclusive mode only available in the European market, provides a dynamic driving experience with restricted stabilization. Comfort Mode Ideal for day-to-day city driving, Stinger’s default Comfort Mode gently minimizes steering effort on the part of the driver with lighter handling and a smoother suspension feel. In Comfort Mode, the steering is nicely weighted with decent self-centering, good accuracy and linearity. When cruising around the city, Comfort Mode provides smoother acceleration, allowing for a more relaxed gran turismo-inspired ride. Eco Mode A vehicle’s fuel economy depends heavily on when you drive, where you drive, and what kind of driving style you have. By utilizing Eco Mode, the Stinger leads drivers to a smarter way of economical and eco-friendly driving. Eco Mode maximizes the vehicle’s fuel efficiency by adjusting the engine and transaxle operating parameters. In exchange for a slightly lower power output, Eco Mode improves gas mileage for both highway and city travelling. With highly optimized efficiency, this driving mode delivers a quiet and eco-friendly urban driving experience with truly impressive fuel economy. Smart Mode The Stinger’s Smart Mode monitors your driving style and switches constantly through Sport, Comfort and Eco modes to provide the optimum balance between performance, fuel economy, and smooth operation. Designed to understand and anticipate the driver’s steering preferences, the Stinger’s Smart Mode adjusts vehicle operation accordingly and picks the right mix of settings depending on road condition and driving style. Custom Mode The Custom Mode enables a tailored ride by allowing drivers to alter the suspension, throttle and steering characteristics in accordance with their preferences. With Custom Mode, the Stinger boasts the all-round drivability of a daily car, while providing an extra kick on open roads for enhanced driving performance. Do you see why the Stinger has captivated so many car enthusiasts? Aside from its ultra-comfortable ride, the Stinger delivers sensational handling, while transporting its occupants in style and at speed. Stay tuned as we continue to bring you unparalleled driver-oriented technologies that help fine-tune your driving experience. ▶ Learn more about the groundbreaking performance of the Kia Stinger! 4. [See image gallery at www.autoguide.com] The new 2018 Kia Rio has been priced from $14,795 in the United States including destination. The entry-level 2018 Rio LX will start at $14,795 for the sedan and $15,095 for the 5-door hatchback. A step up to the Rio S trim line will raise the price for $16,995 for the sedan and $16,400 for the hatch. The range-topping Rio EX will command $19,295 for the sedan and $19,595 for the hatch. All prices have been listed including $895 in destination. Kia US unveiled its all-new Rio earlier this year, introducing minor changes to the nameplate. The 1.6-liter four-cylinder powerplant now makes a bit less power and torque at 130 hp and 116 lb-ft, but benefits from earlier torque delivery and better fuel economy. The looks have also been updated and the car comes with some nice standard equipment including a touchscreen infotainment display and a rear-view camera. SEE ALSO: 2018 Kia Rio Review “Value has always been a core tenet for the Kia brand and the all-new Rio sedan and 5-door continue to underscore our commitment to buyers looking for an entry-level vehicle but desire more than what the subcompact segment offers,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning, KMA. “This fourth-generation Rio makes significant improvements over its predecessor in design, technology and passenger comfort, resulting in an even better value proposition, while raising the bar in the small-car segment.” Discuss this story on our Kia forum. 6. Kia is reportedly working on a V8 version of the Stinger performance sedan bound for North America. Speaking to CarAdvice, Kia Australia general manager Kevin Hepworth said the 2.0-liter and 3.3-liter V6 engines would be the only engines offered with the Stinger in Australia, but that a V8 is being worked on for North America. “I believe they’re developing one,” Hepworth said. “There may be a possibility the U.S. could pick it up. We’ve not heard about it [for Australia]. We haven’t entered into discussion for a V8.” SEE ALSO: Kia Stinger With 3.3L V6 and AWD Priced From $47K in Canada It seems likely that a Stinger V8 would utilize the 5.0-liter that was used in the Kia K900 and Hyundai Equus. That engine made 429 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque in its most powerful iteration and was linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It’s possible Kia could pull a little more power from it for the Stinger, but it’s much too early to say. It would also be a huge step for Kia if it were to introduce a lineup of higher-performance cars, just like BMW’s M division or Mercedes’ AMG, and a V8 would definitely fit into the picture. We’ll be keeping an eye for an eight-cylinder Stinger in the coming months, so stay tuned for more info. 8. The SUV market is currently booming, and as the segment continues to grow in popularity, SUVs of all shapes and sizes are lining up to join in the fray. Among SUVs, the sale of crossovers, especially compact crossovers, have noticeably skyrocketed in recent years. A perfect cross between a compact sedan and an SUV, compact crossovers (or CUVs) are quickly gaining traction all over the world, most notably in Europe and North America. Crossovers are an attractive option for drivers of all demographics for many reasons. Unlike SUVs, which typically utilize the chassis of a truck, a crossover is built on a sedan platform, giving the vehicle more refined handling and driving comfort. Moreover, CUVs still maintain the advantages of passenger sedans, providing ample cabin space, as well as leg and headroom for passengers. With a confident and sturdy aesthetic reminiscent of a large SUV combined with the compact functionality and affordability of a smaller sedan, compact crossovers are perfect for those who may be conflicted between the two vehicle body styles. Kia Stonic is the brand’s newest compact crossover model. Revealed overseas initially to a select group of European media and then finally to the world at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, our new model is already being met with a great response. With explosive growth of the compact crossover segment expected to continue, Stonic is projected to rise up the ranks as one of Kia’s bestselling models in the coming years. Despite the stiff competition, the Stonic is equipped with a variety of special features that makes it a compelling choice. Bold SUV-inspired Design The overall design of the Kia Stonic embodies the ‘effortless cool’ of European flair. The design team at Kia’s design studios at Frankfurt, Germany and Namyang, Korea sought to create a crossover that was compact in size but mirrored the confidence and boldness of the brand’s larger models. Utilizing simple and decisive lines, designers have crafted a sculpted and modern silhouette. The result is a sleek and lithe model that features a blend of sharp edges and softly sloped surfaces for a muscular and sporty feel. The Stonic is compact but exudes an aura of rugged power. Smart Technology Stonic is Kia’s smartest car yet and it has a host of smart technologies for the utmost enhancement of the driver experience. Meanwhile, many of the ride and handling elements of the Stonic have been tweaked to ensure distinctive driving performance. The unique suspension and steering wheel set-up delivers a fine-tuned and precise ride, and the electronic driving support and DRIVE WiSE systems offer further ease of driving in varying road conditions. The Stonic is also a very smartly packaged model. The cabin offers generous seating room and is ergonomically engineered to guarantee that all storage areas are efficient, versatile and fall within comfortable reach of the passengers. The cargo area of the Stonic is the largest in its segment. Customization Perhaps the most standout aspect of the Stonic is that it is the most customizable Kia ever. With a full range of options for the exterior and interior, the Stonic can be personalized to suit any driver. Customers have a choice of up to twenty color combinations for the exterior, with nine vibrant shades available for the body and five for the roof. The cabin trim and upholstery are available in grey, bronze, orange and green color packs. Kia Stonic boasts a well-balanced combination of style, technological sophistication and versatility that will surely make it a strong competitor in the compact crossover segment. More will be revealed in the coming months as the Stonic prepares for its official entry into the European market later this year. Stay tuned and look out for this eye-catching crossover coming your way! Lees volledige artikel

  10. Get the Flash Player to see this player. The Frankfurt motor show is kind of a big deal, with automakers from MINI to Mercedes-Benz unveiling all kinds of new vehicles at this event Of course, there are tons of production models are on display at this biennial event, but we can’t forget about the concept cars! Accordingly, here are eight of our favorite design studies from Frankfurt. BMW X7 iPerformance Concept This big, brown bomber previews the BMW brand’s upcoming full-size utility vehicle. Up front, there’s a new interpretation of the brand’s iconic twin-kidney grille along and along the sides there are hockey-stick bits of brightwork. Inside, there’s room for six in a spacious cabin that’s trimmed with premium leather and open-pore ash-wood trim. Digital instruments are displayed on a huge 12.3-inch screen, while a panoramic glass roof lets light pour in. On the performance front, there really aren’t any details to share about the X7’s powertrain other than it will be a plug-in hybrid. MINI Electric Concept Next up, a MINI. The British brand is once again getting into the EV segment. Making its global debut here in Frankfurt am Main is the firm’s Electric Concept, not a particularly imaginative name, but what can you do? This car should provide sustainable mobility to urbanites around the world. Now, no information about this vehicle’s drivetrain has been released other than that it features a lithium-ion battery pack. Production is slated to kick off in 2019. Kia Proceed Concept This shimmering beauty is the Kia Proceed Concept, which is dressed to kill in Lava Red paint. That finish is built up from multiple layers, all of which were hand-applied. This car was created in the South Korean automaker’s Frankfurt design center, just half a kilometer or so from where it debuted at the show. Sleek and sweptback with a long roofline, this concept previews what the next-generation Cee’d Euro-market compact car could look like. Those “Sharkblades” on the side are undoubtedly its most noteworthy element, though the 20-inch alloy wheels are hard to miss as well. Smart Vision EQ Fortwo As you might have guessed, this Smart is all electric and completely autonomous, the first Daimler vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals, in fact. It was created with car-sharing services in mind, which are projected to quintuple in popularity by 2025, swelling to nearly 37 million users globally. In step with estimated growth, this smart can be summoned by a personal electronic device. Power is provided by a 30-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that can feed the electrical grid during times of heavy demand. SEE ALSO: 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show Coverage Mercedes-Benz Concept EQA Next up, the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQA, which just made its grand debut here in Frankfurt. Sporting a generous 60-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, this smooth-bodied hatch should offer a driving range of around 400 kilometers, about 250 miles. As for performance, it features two electric motors – one at each end – which provide all-wheel traction along with about 268 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. The blitz to mile-a-minute speed should take around five seconds, which is plenty quick. MINI John Cooper Works GP Concept Inspired by MINI’s Monte Carlo Rally victories five decades ago, this machine is pared down to the bare minimum. One glance inside is all it takes to know this car means business as there are just two bucket seats with five-point harnesses, a roll cage and little else. No powertrain or production information has been released but aside from that fetching red-and-black body, it rolls on 19-inch wheels. Audi Aicon Undoubtedly, one of the coolest concepts revealed in Frankfurt this year is from a home-team automaker. The Audi Aicon is a fully autonomous electric vehicle with a maximum range of up to 800 kilometers, just shy of 500 miles. Each one of its massive 26-inch wheels is driven by an individual electric motor. These units deliver more than 400 pound-feet of torque, which we’d hazard to bet provides rapid acceleration. Since this machine drives itself, there are no pedals or steering wheel inside, which results in lounge-like cabin. The interior is reconfigurable with room for up to four passengers. Honda Urban EV Concept The Honda Urban EV Concept won us over with its slick, retro styling. A wisp shorter than the brand’s Fit subcompact, its interior still has room for up to four people on a pair of old-school bench seats, while a ginormous display screen dominates the dashboard. Far from some pie-in-the-sky art project, this car hints at the design and technology that will be offered in an upcoming Honda, one that’s set to launch in 2019. Let’s hope the production model looks as cool as this! Discuss this story on our Honda Forum The post 8 Best Concepts from the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show appeared first on AutoGuide.com News. 11. Get the Flash Player to see this player. The 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show is wrapping up and there were a ton of really cool new car debuts and concepts. Here are the 10 most interesting things we learned at this year’s show. 10. BMW’s Tesla Killer Will Have More Range BMW’s i Vision Dynamics concept is an all-electric sedan that previews a Tesla Model S competitor that BMW said will be produced soon. It has 373 miles of range, while the best Tesla Model S has 315 miles of range. 9. Kias Are Sexy? Yes, we are going to go out on a limb and use the words “sexy” and “Kia” in the same sentence. Maybe we just love wagons too much, but this sleek design for a car that’s not coming to North America just looks so damn good. The Kia Proceed Concept was definitely one of the highlights of the show. 8. We Learned About the Aspark Owl I don’t know about you, but I had never even heard about the Aspark Owl until this auto show. More than 1,000 horsepower and the fastest accelerating car in the world? These are bold claims and we’re excited to see if this car can back them up. 7. Autonomy is a Big Deal So many concepts that debuted focus of driverless technology. Some even go as far as the Smart concept, which doesn’t even have a steering wheel or pedals. CarSharing is also a big trend being embraced by more and more automakers. 6. North Americans Are Missing Out There were a ton of debuts for really cool cars we won’t get in North America like the Audi RS4 Avant. This makes us sad. 5. EVERYTHING is Getting Electrified Nearly every big debut this year was either a hybrid, a plug-in, or all electric vehicle. If you needed more proof that electric cars are taking over, this is it. 4. Sports Cars and Supercars Are Still Alive Those worried about the future of sports cars and supercars need not worry, however, because there were a bunch of performance cars that debuted that show us speed and driving joy are still top of mind for many automakers. The Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster, Ferrari Portofino, and Bentley Continental GT were all luxury performance vehicles that debuted at the show. 3. Mercedes-AMG’s Project One Hypercar Has 1,000 HP The specs for this new hybrid hypercar are crazy. The F1 engine, a 1.6L turbo V6, can spin to 11,000 rpm and works with two electric motors to put more than 1,000 horsepower to all four wheels. Production has been capped at 275 units and the price? A cool $2.7-million. 2. Mercedes Wanted a Toned Down Design I overheard a few conversations at the auto show criticising Mercedes for not being extreme enough with its Project One design. But the boss of Mercedes-AMG said that was on purpose because they wanted to focus on the innovative powertrain and driving dynamics first and foremost. 1. People Love Retro Simplicity I think Mercedes was a bit embarrassed over how much love this humble little electric Honda concept got at the Frankfurt show. The clean, retro and refreshingly simple design is the perfect antidote to overwrought, angular styling that seems to be taking over (we’re looking at you, Type R). This is the most appealing thing Honda has done in a while and Honda even says this will be a production car in 2019. When and if it does arrive, we hope it looks just like this concept. The ‘Sharkblade’ body and haute couture-inspired interior of the Proceed Concept represents a vision of the future design direction of the cee’d model range. Stonic Kia Stonic, our newest compact crossover, also makes its motor show debut at Frankfurt. Previously revealed overseas only to members of the European media, there has been an air of mystery surrounding the Stonic. Shown for the first time to the public outside of Korea, the Stonic was greeted with much enthusiasm by curious and anticipating fans. Even at a casual glance, the Kia Stonic is an eye-catchingly confident model boasting an SUV-inspired design majoring on style, technology and personality. With countless customizable aesthetic and driving features, Kia hopes to conquer the fast-growing compact crossover vehicle segment in Europe. Picanto X-Line & Upgraded Sorento Kia Picanto, one of our best-selling compact cars, has been turbocharged and reborn. The new Picanto X-Line, equipped with a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline direct engine, broadens the appeal of the model. Our most powerful Picanto yet, this newly enhanced version draws inspiration from Kia’s SUV models as a small but unstoppable, go-anywhere city car. Alongside the Picanto X-Line, Kia’s third-generation Sorento has also been enhanced. The newly upgraded model makes its overseas premiere in Frankfurt with a host of improvements. Most notable is the application of Kia’s cutting-edge 8-speed transmission as well as numerous new safety and driving assistance features. For the first time, the Sorento is also available in a ‘GT-Line’ specification, offering even more style, dynamics and performance. The upgraded Sorento will be more performance-oriented than ever, and with the new transmission, will deliver more power with significantly reduced carbon emissions. 16. [See image gallery at www.autoguide.com] The future styling of Kia road cars has been previewed today with the debut of the Proceed Concept ahead of the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Proceed Concept was design at Kia’s European design center in Germany – located just 500 meters away from where it will be unveiled next week. Kia is calling it an “extended hot hatch,” instead of wagon and says the design study previews the future styling of the C’eed five-door hatchback and the related three-door Proceed. The Korean automaker also says it “puts forward a bold vision for a potential member of the next-generation Cee’d family,” indicating that a C’eed wagon could eventually arrive. “With many European drivers now seeking performance alternatives to the three-door hot hatch, we began thinking about a different halo model for the Cee’d family,” said chief designer for Kia Motors Europe, Gregory Guillaume. “The Proceed Concept represents a bold new vision of how the vibrant soul of the pro_cee’d could be reincarnated and revitalized for a new generation of performance-oriented drivers.” SEE ALSO: Kia Stinger With 3.3L V6 and AWD Priced From $47K in Canada One standout styling cue on the Proceed concept is the ‘Lumiline’ trim, which highlights the sharply styled greenhouse section with a thin light strip and highlights its raked, fastback shape. There’s also a dramatized version of Kia’s recognizable tiger nose grille up front, a unique ‘sharkblade’ style c-pillar and large six-spoke 20-inch wheels. The concept is finished in a special ‘Lava Red’ exterior color, which was created using multiple hand-applied layers of black, chrome-effect silver, and red-tinted lacquer. Look for the Kia Proceed concept to make its official debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show on September 12th. We probably won’t be getting a Kia that looks anything like this in North America, in case you were wondering, so we’ll have to appreciate this stylish design study from afar. 17. Concerns for the environment are higher than ever before and so is the sheer availability of sustainable driving options. Although hybrid cars are receiving more and more widespread attention, we find that customers are often misinformed about the advantages of these eco-friendly models. So let’s take a look at some of the common misconceptions about hybrid vehicles. 1. Finding charging stations for hybrids is difficult Unlike full-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles, hybrid cars do not require any sort of charging. Hybrid cars are powered mainly by a gasoline engine, and the electric motor, powered by a separate battery, only works to assist the engine. Hybrid cars, like gasoline vehicles, must be fueled the traditional way. 2. Hybrid cars are only for the summer. While it is true that fuel mileage dips in colder weather as low temperatures reduce engine capacity and demand more energy to continue running, this does not make hybrid cars less appealing in winter. In fact, hybrid cars are a lot easier to operate than gas-powered vehicles because of their motors. An electric motor has far fewer moving parts than a gasoline engine, allowing the car to move more efficiently and make better use of energy even in colder climates. 3. Hybrids are not suitable for families. We understand that driving with children requires plenty of room in the backseat. To suit larger families, Kia’s hybrid models provide ample cabin room for passengers and cargo. Kia Niro, for example, boasts cargo capacity of 427 liters and more than enough to seat five people comfortably. Meanwhile, all of our hybrid models come equipped with the highest standard safety features. 4. Hybrid cars are difficult to maintain. Hybrid vehicles have long been thought of as difficult to maintain but it is in fact the opposite. Hybrid cars have a far longer life expectancy than traditional cars as they have fewer working parts to maintain. Therefore, they do not require many of the traditional repairs and maintenance of other internal combustion engine models. As long as the battery of a hybrid is well taken care of, hybrids will deliver impressive lifespans. 5. Hybrid cars are not stylish or attractive. It was once believed that one needed to sacrifice style in order to drive hybrids. This sentiment is a thing of the past. Kia’s hybrid line-up is as visually striking as it is functional. In fact, Kia’s hybrid utility vehicle Niro has been awarded numerous prestigious design awards this year for its aesthetically pleasing styling. 19. The upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show will be host to many interesting debuts, but all eyes will be on Mercedes-AMG’s hypercar. The 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show will host its media days on September 12-13, and AutoGuide.com will be there reporting live from the show floor. Although most of the major debuts have already happened online, we can expect a few surprises, with the most exciting being the Mercedes-AMG Project One hypercar. 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show Coverage Here’s what we are expecting from the major automakers that are hosting debuts at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Audi Now that the new Audi A8 has been introduced, the new Audi A7 is expected to debut in Frankfurt. There are also rumors Audi will bring a rear-wheel-drive R8 GT and RS4 Avant to the show. Bentley Bentley already pulled the cover off the new Continental GT, but Frankfurt will be the first time we get to see it in person. BMW With such a massive model lineup, it’s no surprise BMW will have a few things to show off in Frankfurt. The BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, which replaces the 5 Series Gran Turismo, will be on the show floor, along with the new M5, i3, and i3s models. We’ll also get a look at a concept for the upcoming BMW X7 SUV. Ferrari It’s unlikely Ferrari will have any surprises up its sleeves for Frankfurt, so all eyes will be on the new Portofino, which replaces the California and was introduced last month. Honda Honda will unveil its next steps toward “Electric Vision” at Frankfurt, hosting the world premiere of the Honda Urban EV Concept. The automaker says the concept will be its first EV for Europe, so it’s unclear whether it will be a global model. We will also see a CR-V Hybrid Prototype. For Europeans, they’ll get their first look at the diesel-powered Civic hatchback. Hyundai By now the Hyundai i30N is almost old news, but it will make its auto show debut in Frankfurt. Although the Hyundai i30N won’t be heading to North America, it gives us an idea of what to expect when the Veloster N debuts. The Korean automaker will also be showing off its Kona crossover. Jaguar We’ll get another look at the Jaguar E-Pace, a smaller version of the F-Pace. We’re hoping Jaguar surprises us at Frankfurt with a better look at the production I-Pace. Kia Kia released a teaser preview of a stylish new wagon concept that will make its debut in Frankfurt. Given how poorly wagons sell in North America, this concept likely previews a model heading to Europe. We’ll also get to check out the new Stonic subcompact crossover in person. Mercedes-Benz / Mercedes-AMG As of now, the most exciting car set to make its debut is the Mercedes-AMG Project One. It’s the brand’s hypercar answer to the Aston Martin Valkyrie and it will boast a Formula One hybrid powertrain with more than 1,000 horsepower. Expect to also see more from the company’s EQ lineup, along with a facelifted S-Class, and the brand’s first pickup, the X-Class. Mercedes will also debut the GLC F-Cell, a plug-in hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. MINI MINI has already introduced its Electric Concept that will be at Frankfurt, previewing the brand’s upcoming EV. Porsche Porsche already had its big debut with the new Cayenne. We’ll be sure to get a closer look at the next-generation SUV, even though we already know what to expect. Smart Smart‘s future in Daimler’s portfolio will likely focus on being a hi-tech, autonomous offering and that begins with the Vision EQ Concept it has already announced. Toyota Toyota confirmed it will debut the new Land Cruiser in Frankfurt, along with the C-HR Hy-Power Concept. Joining them on the show floor will be the Yaris GRMN and Auris Touring Sport Freestyle. 24. Kia’s sometimes outlandish TV commercials are never short on clever and creative ideas. Every Kia commercial captures and showcases the distinctive positioning and unique charm and appeal of our vehicles. With every new powerful and innovative TV spot, Kia continues to make memorable impressions on millions of viewers. The renowned stars of our commercials no doubt play an instrumental role in capturing and delivering the distinctive look and feel of our vehicles. Watch how each star steals the spotlight! Christina Hendricks + Kia Cadenza Kia Cadenza is impossible to ignore and so is Christina Hendricks. In the newest spot from Kia Motors America, Christina Hendricks leaves a lavish hotel and walks past suited chauffeurs, each trying to welcome her into the backseat of different luxury vehicles. She does not stop, however, and instead, drives away behind the wheel of her Cadenza. Hendricks’ beauty and confidence brilliantly match the undeniable allure of the Cadenza. A perfect embodiment of the ad’s tagline, “Impossible to Ignore,” Hendricks and the Cadenza demonstrate that “confidence never goes out of style.” Melissa McCarthy + Kia Niro “It’s hard to be an eco-warrior. But it’s easy to drive like one.” Actress and comedian Melissa McCarthy plays to her comedic strengths as an eco-warrior in the 2017 Super Bowl commercial for the Kia Niro as she hilariously attempts to save the world while landing herself in the most perilous of situations. From rescuing whales, preserving the polar ice caps and stopping deforestation, all of her endeavors take a turn for the worse and she soon learns that saving the environment is no easy task. The commercial delivers a clear and inspiring message on how buying and driving a smarter kind of crossover can help save the planet without putting ourselves in harm’s way. Massively entertaining and wonderfully orchestrated, “Hero’s Journey” featuring McCarthy was named among the Best Super Bowl Commercials of 2017. ▶ Check out the most memorable Niro TV spots from around the world! Brian Bosworth & Bo Jackson + Kia Sorento For the Kia Sorento, Kia brought back two American football legends, Brian Bosworth and Bo Jackson. On November of 1987, Jackson blew through Bosworth on his way to a spectacular and legendary touchdown. Recreating the famous Bosworth-Jackson matchup, Kia was able to strike a nostalgic chord with many viewers. In the commercial, set in the 1980s football video game ‘Tecmo Bowl,’ Jackson drives the Sorento towards the end zone where Bosworth is waiting for him. Instead of running over Boswoth, Jackson activates the SUV’s Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system. “Thanks for not running me over,’ Bosworth remarks as he jumps in. With legendary players and the every-lasting popularity of Tecmo Bowl, Kia was able to draw eyes to the power, intelligence and nimble handling of the Sorento. Christopher Walken + Kia Optima Kia Optima refuses to be ordinary with Christopher Walken. In the 2016 Super Bowl spot for the Kia Optima, Academy Award-winner Christopher Walken narrates how the Optima is a standout model in a midsize-sedan sea of mediocrity. By employing colorful socks, Walken convinces a man dressed in beige that the Optima is a vibrant alternative – much like a colorful pair of socks – for those searching for a refreshing alternative in a vehicle segment that lacks flair. With a unique and fully integrated colorful socks campaign following the TV spot, Kia was successful in showcasing the Optima as more than just a “beige” or “ordinary” vehicle. Pierce Brosnan + Kia Sorento Pierce Brosnan, renowned for his sophisticated heroic roles, made the perfect getaway in the 2015 Super Bowl campaign for the Kia Sorento. Sitting in a luxurious office waiting to line up his next onscreen adventure, Brosnan visualizes an action film complete with a rocket launcher as the agent pitches a film set in the snowy mountains. Despite the actor’s expectations, the scene he is being pitched features pleasant encounters with natural beauty and wildlife accompanied by the Sorento. However, the Sorento’s capacity to handle any adventure-seeker’s lifestyle is more than enough to put a smile on his face. “Can I keep the car?” he asks delightedly. Commercials for award-winning vehicles must be backed up by superb creativity. With our motto – the Power to Surprise – there are always more surprises to come. Stay tuned for new eye-catching, distinctive commercials featuring stars of the world – we will get you cruising in style! Lees volledige artikel
  25. Some cars have disappeared completely from the collective consciousness because they didn’t last long enough to make an impression. There have been dozens of duds in the automotive world. Sometimes the cars sound good in theory but they just don’t sell, while we can’t even figure out why other cars exist in the first place. Here’s a look at some short-lived cars from the past few decades, many of which were only sold for a single model year in the U.S. SEE ALSO: Top 10 Cars You Forgot Existed While there may be some cars that have had shorter lives than the ones on the list, these are the ones we found the most interesting. Acura SLX Before Acura had its popular MDX and RDX crossover lineup, there was the Acura SLX, but it’s completely acceptable if you didn’t even know this SUV existed. Back in the mid-1990s, Acura was mostly known for its sedans, but the SUV market was slowly gaining ground. So what did the Japanese automaker do? It rebadged the Isuzu Trooper as its own, selling it under the SLX nameplate. According to the National Automobile Dealers Association, the SLX was first introduced in 1996 and was taken off the market after the 1999 model year. It was hardly a sales success, but it did pave the way for Acura’s lineup of crossovers and SUVs. Chrysler Aspen Hybrid The Chrysler Aspen Hybrid was introduced the same time as the Dodge Durango Hybrid and both models stumbled into obscurity. The idea behind the Chrysler Aspen was confusing on its own, but the added premium of a hybrid variant on a 2009 model all but secured its fate as a one-and-done model. In fact, both the Durango Hybrid and the Aspen Hybrid were discontinued just two months after the American automaker started full-scale production when it shut down its Newark, Delaware, Assembly Plant. Coda EV Not every electric automaker has found the same success as Tesla. One perfect example is Coda, which produced its electric vehicle from 2012 to 2013. This short-lived EV was only sold in the state of California and the company didn’t even manage to sell 120 units before it shut down. It probably didn’t help that the car itself was the Hafei Saibao, a model that first made its debut at the 2004 Beijing Motor Show. Although it was penned by Pininfarina, its outdated styling just didn’t fit in nearly a decade later. Hummer H3T We all know what happened with the Hummer brand, but did you know before it disappeared, the automaker introduced a truck model? The Hummer H3T was only produced from 2009 to 2010 before General Motors decided to kill off the brand. The model ultimately saw less than 1,300 units produced, which ironically makes it quite the collectible these days. Kia Borrego Another one-and-done model, the Kia Borrego SUV was introduced in 2008 before it was quietly discontinued in 2009. Some say the timing for the Borrego’s introduction couldn’t have been worse, considering car shoppers were flocking to fuel-efficient hybrids as gas prices soared around the U.S. It did get a second model year in 2009, but barely any units were produced and sold. Lincoln Blackwood The Blackwood pickup truck was only offered in the U.S. for the 2002 model year, so it might be the shortest-lived vehicle in Lincoln‘s history. On paper, the idea behind the Blackwood made sense for the brand. The Lincoln Navigator was essentially a rebadged, more luxurious version of the Ford Expedition, so why couldn’t Lincoln do the same with the Ford F-150 pickup? Unfortunately, the idea behind a luxury pickup didn’t make much sense in the U.S. back then, and one could argue it still doesn’t make sense today. After all, there’s a reason the Mercedes-Benz pickup isn’t heading to the U.S. Mercedes-Benz R63 AMG Minivans might not be cool, but Mercedes-Benz‘s AMG arm tried really hard to make the R-Class cool with a hot R63 AMG model. The one-and-done R63 wasn’t even marketed in the U.S. when it was introduced as a 2007 model, and if someone wanted to buy one, they had to special order it from the dealership. Sporting a 6.2-liter V8 under the hood with 507 horsepower, the R63 AMG clearly appealed to very few consumers. Nissan Axxess This might be one of the strangest cars to have ever been sold in the U.S. The second-generation Nissan Prairie was rebadged as the Axxess in North America and was only sold for the 1990 model year. The model served as a replacement and successor to the Nissan Stanza wagon, which was the first-generation Prairie in other markets. But the Axxess never caught on in the U.S. and the Japanese automaker likely pulled the plug quickly so it could focus on developing the Nissan Quest, which still lives on today. Pontiac G3 Sadly, the Pontiac brand has a few models that belong on this list. The Pontiac Solstice Coupe and G8 were both short-lived vehicles, but the Pontiac G3 was one-and-done as a 2009 model. Although the brand is long gone, the G3 will forever live on as the shortest-lived model to sport the Pontiac badge. More than 6,000 units were sold in the U.S., so it wasn’t as bad of a disaster as other short-lived vehicles. But unlike Pontiac, many of those automakers are still around. Saturn Astra We now know the Saturn brand is history, but when the Astra was first introduced, the automaker was doing its best to stay afloat. Bringing over some European styling, the Astra saw a single year of production in 2008 before Saturn shut its doors permanently in 2010. It’s sad when you consider the Opel Astra has lived on to this day and is considered quite the hot hatch in Europe.
