Hyundai-Kia to Have 26 Electrified Models by 2020
Kiaclub Nieuwsrobot plaatste een topic in Kianieuws van Autoguide.com
Hyundai-Kia is expanding its electrified vehicle portfolio, planning to have at least 26 hybrids, plug-in hybrids, fully electric and hydrogen fuel cell powered cars by 2020. If the Korean automaker can accomplish this feat, it will make them the second largest producer of electrified cars behind Toyota. We can expect at least 12 hybrids, six plug-in hybrids, two full EVs and two fuel-cell vehicles, spread throughout both the Hyundai and Kia lineup. From Hyundai, the Sonata Hybrid, Sonata Plug-in, Ioniq Hybrid, Ioniq Plug-in, Ioniq Electric, Grandeur Hybrid and a fuel-cell powered Tucson will represent these electrified models. At Kia, the brand will offer the Optima Hybrid, Optima Plug-in, Soul EV, Cadenza hybrid and the upcoming Niro Hybrid. SEE ALSO: Hyundai Unveils Genesis Hybrid Sport Sedan Concept Hyundai-Kia is hoping to move roughly 300,000 electrified vehicles by 2020, a significant boost compared to the roughly 70,000 electrified vehicles the brands moved last year. For contrast, Toyota sold about 1.2 million hybrids and plug-in in 2015. So far, Hyundai-Kia isn’t making any money on its electrified cars, something that the company also plans to change 2020. “Except for Toyota, I can achieve some competitiveness against other companies,” said Hyundai Motor Group’s eco-car powertrain division head. “Our target is before 2020, we would like to make profits on these eco-friendly vehicles,” he said.

The conclusion of construction at the manufacturing plant in Pesquería, Nuevo León, Mexico late last year was met with great excitement as the facility marks many groundbreaking moments for Kia Motors. Not only was the 300,000-unit annual capacity plant constructed in the fastest time ever for any Kia production facility, it is also the company’s first ever to be built in the Latin American region and is expected to provide significant social and economic benefits to Mexico and the surrounding areas. Moreover, Kia’s Mexico manufacturing plant boasts state-of-the-art equipment and manufacturing systems that make it one of the most environmentally-friendly automotive manufacturing plants in the region. Read on to find out more about the environmental and energy conservation efforts that are taking place at our newest production complex. Complying fully with Mexico’s environmental regulations, Kia utilizes technology such as the Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO), a system that treats industrial emissions, to ease the brand’s environmental impact in the area. With strict emissions monitoring, we aim to ensure the highest environmental standards during the manufacturing process of our vehicles. LED light sources have been installed within and around the complex to avoid excessive energy consumption, while the walls and windows of the buildings are treated with thermal insulation materials to reduce heat loss and conserve energy. Taking advantage of the plant’s location and surrounding terrain, a solar station has been constructed near the plant which generates up to 122 KW of electricity hourly to power the facility’s waste water treatment system. Notably, the plant’s paint shop is one of the cleanest in Mexico. Utilizing advanced technology, Kia works to minimize harmful paint chemicals and maximize the use of environmentally friendly materials in the process. Following strict environmental regulations and guidelines, Kia Motors seeks to obtain the ISO 14001: 2015 certification to demonstrate the full integration of environmental management systems with our business practices. Furthermore, Kia is taking proactive measures in the local region to do our part in actively contributing to environmental conservation efforts by working with local businesses, participating in community-wide environmental education programs and supporting reforestation projects. With the combination of thoughtful business practices and cutting-edge technology, Kia hopes to continue making a name as an ethical global corporation and reputable green brand. ▶ Read about our environmental friendly production practices worldwide! ▶ Learn more about our newest green cars! The second-generation Kia Cadenza has made its North American debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show. Introduced in South Korea late last year, Kia has brought the 2017 Kia Cadenza stateside with a new body structure that is stronger, lighter and more rigid. It also features the Korean automaker’s first front-wheel-drive eight-speed automatic transmission. Designed at Kia’s California studio, the signature Kia “tiger nose” grille is prevalent up front, now sporting a concave form that curves towards the engine bay. Lower trim models of the Cadenza will come with the “Diamond Butterfly” front grille, featuring the same three-dimensional pattern found on other siblings within Kia’s lineup. Higher trim models in the Cadenza’s lineup will receive the “Intaglio” grille with vertically oriented, faceted blades. SEE ALSO: 2016 New York Auto Show Coverage While the sedan has the same overall length as the outgoing model, it is slightly wider and lower in height. The wheelbase has been stretched slightly, adding nearly a half-inch of increased legroom for rear passengers. Kia also placed an emphasis on upgrading the interior, redesigning it with even higher quality materials. The door panels feature higher quality soft-touch materials, while soft leather can be found throughout the cabin. Nappa leather is also available with quilted seat bolsters further accented by diamond-shaped stitching. Under the hood of the 2017 Kia Cadenza is a 3.3-liter V6 engine that has been revised to deliver improved fuel economy. It is estimated to make 290 horsepower, although exact power output and fuel economy figures will be announced at a later date. The 2017 Kia Cadenza is set to go on sale in late 2016 with pricing to be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch date. Kia Sorento Spied With a New Facelift
Kiaclub Nieuwsrobot plaatste een topic in Kianieuws van Autoguide.com
[See image gallery at www.autoguide.com] The Kia Sorento is already getting a facelift based on recent spy photos. Having introduced a redesigned model early last year, the Korean automaker isn’t wasting anytime updating its SUV to stay competitive in a crowded segment. Surprisingly, it appears Kia is keeping the Sorento on a fast update track, considering the redesigned 2016 model came just two years after its last major update. Spy photographers noticed something even more interesting with the heavily camouflaged prototype. On the vehicle itself, there’s a label with a new “QM” code name, which is peculiar since typically vehicles tend to keep their internal codenames the same for facelifts. In the case of the Sorento, the current model has a “UM” code name, hinting that this facelift could actually have a lot more goodies packed under its sheetmetal. SEE ALSO: 2016 Kia Sorento Review Rumor has it that the updated Sorento won’t arrive until 2018, which is on par with how quickly Kia is updating the SUV. Expect to see more luxurious features for the interior and don’t be surprised if the company updates its powertrain offerings and suspension given that it’s using a new code name. Unfortunately it’s difficult to see what changes are heading to its exterior because of all the camouflage and snow it is buried under, but it does look like the front end is getting updated with a new grille and headlights that follow with the latest in Kia design. There’s also heavy camouflage on the rear of the vehicle, so expect changes there too.
