  2. As Korea’s oldest automobile brand, Kia Motors boasts of a rich and unique history. Once a small manufacturer of bicycle and motorcycle parts, Kia has matured into a leading global brand and the second largest vehicle manufacturing company in South Korea.. Since our humble beginnings in 1944 as Kyungsung Precision Industry, Kia has brought to life numerous automotive creations that have long since become commemorated icons and relics of the brand’s innovative growth. Take a look at some of the earliest and most iconic cars from Kia Motors! K-360 & T-600: The beginning of an era Kia K-360 three-wheeler Established in 1944, the company enjoyed popularity as a bicycle manufacturer and did not start building automobiles until the early 1960s. The K-360 pickup released in 1962 became the first Korean three-wheeler vehicle and Kia’s first step into automobile manufacturing. The model, developed in cooperation with a Japanese counterpart, was produced primarily for the Japanese market. The T-600 model, manufactured in Korea, soon followed in 1969. Boasting larger storage capacity, the model was praised for its fuel efficiency. With only three left in existence today, the T-600 has been designated as registered cultural property of Korea. Kia Brisa: A number of firsts Kia revealed the Kia Brisa, Korea’s first domestically produced passenger car, in 1974. The sedan was assembled at the country’s first integrated automobile manufacturing facility, the Sohari plant. The model was also the first Kia to be exported, enjoying success overseas until end of production in 1981. Bongo: Redefining the traditional pickup Kia Bongo minibus (left) and pickup truck (right) Kia Bongo came in the two versions: a heavy duty one-ton pickup truck released in 1980 and a distinctively curvy minibus (known as ‘Pregio’ in overseas markets) that followed in 1981. The Bongo series was a sensation, appealing to the world with its power and spacious practicality. While the popular one-box type minibus was discontinued in the mid-2000s, the pickup truck version of the Bongo series (known as the K-series trucks in overseas countries) remains on the market today, giving it an impressive lifespan of 25 years (and counting!). Kia Pride: The iconic subcompact Kia Pride 4-door model Kia Pride, the ancestor of the current day Kia Rio, is perhaps one of the most popular and well-known early Kia models. Developed jointly with partners from the United States and Japan, the subcompact enjoyed worldwide success with a 13-year market lifespan stretching from 1987 to 2000. The Pride also appealed to consumers in various shapes, available in 3-door, 4-door and hatchback bodystyles. The distinctive shape and long lasting popularity of the sturdy and versatile Kia Pride has made one of the most iconic models in Kia’s history. Kia Pride 3-door model Kia Concord & Capital: The original midsize sedans Kia Concord Sedan As the predecessor of the Kia Optima, the Kia Concord boasted exceptional on-road performance and safety. So powerful and impressive was this midsize sedan that it established Kia’s reputation as a reliable manufacturer of quality automobiles. A lower-end model, the Kia Capital, followed the Concord in 1989 and continued to rock the midsize sedan market. Kia Capital Sedan Kia Elan: The ancestor of Korean sports cars Kia Motors took its automotive innovations one step further in 1996 when it developed Korea’s first authentic sports car, the Kia Elan. Purchasing the design rights of the Lotus Elan, Kia renewed exterior elements as well as internal parts to create a beautiful and technically sophisticated vehicle. While the production was small-scale, the Kia Elan was a hit in worldwide (most notably the Europe and US) markets. It’s stylish and sleek design continues to garner the love of automobile enthusiasts today. Kia Motors remains one of the fastest growing automobile brands. With a long history of automotive excellence, Kia’s continuous development of bold designs and innovative concepts has impressed and continues to impress worldwide audiences. Looking back at our colorful collection of automobile creations, we hope to continue to surprise our customers as we have promised to do since our humble beginnings. Take a closer look at the earliest Kia cars and tell us your favorite in the comments below! Lees hele artikel

  10. Ever striving to be one of the world’s most reliable automobile brand, Kia Motors is first and foremost committed to the safety of our vehicles. After making steady headway into vehicle safety technology, Kia is proud to announce that the all-new 2016 Optima and all-new 2017 Sportage have each earned the highest designation possible from the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)! As a well-respected organization in the automobile industry, IIHS holds some of the highest and toughest standards when it comes to rating vehicle safety. Even with newer, more challenging standards this year, the Optima and Sportage both managed to earn the highly impressive Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+) grade. Both cars emerged with top marks in five test areas – small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength and head restraints – as well as high ratings for front crash prevention. These results are a rewarding validation of the vigorous efforts of our vehicle engineers. In combination with the Red Dot Design awards in March, this feat demonstrates that two of our best-selling vehicles are as close to present day perfection as possible. The Sportage will protect you even in the riskiest of situations Even with this remarkable achievement, we are already busying ourselves to improve upon our current systems and bring forth new state-of-the-art safety developments. 13. Last March, the all-new 2017 Kia Cadenza made its stunning debut at the 2016 New York International Auto Show. Creating a buzz among Kia fans and industry onlookers alike, this attractive luxury sedan revealed how far Kia Motors has come and where it’s headed in the future. The second-generation Cadenza adds an extra dose of excitement to the full-size sedan category with its striking handsome looks and premium refinements. Everything – from the meticulously crafted cabin, cutting-edge connectivity and driver assistance features to its sturdy body structure and powertrain – has been improved to provide an upgraded experience behind the wheel. Sleek and Confident Exterior Focusing on Kia’s “simplicity of the straight line” design ethos, the Cadenza’s precisely constructed exterior emanates confidence, with clean lines perfectly balanced by expressive details. Kia’s Chief Design Officer Peter Schreyer explains that Cadenza’s single gestural contour spans the length of the car, creating its sleek profile. Together with matching Z-shaped lighting signatures in the headlights and LED taillights, the all-new Cadenza projects a more distinctive road presence, day or night. Meanwhile the signature ‘tiger-nose’ grille has evolved into a new hexagonal shape that emphasizes the car’s visual width. Its new concave form gives the Cadenza a more expressive and well-defined face. The exterior design also contributes to improved performance. The lowered overall height of the Cadenza is a stylish but practical upgrade. The new optimized positioning of the suspension and tires lowers the center of gravity, resulting in enhanced vehicle stability. Another notable refinement is the chrome accents placed tastefully throughout the car body. Ergonomically Designed Interior The interior features of the all-new Cadenza were refined to create a more pleasant driving experience. The front and rear seats, lowered for stability and extra headroom, gives the Cadenza a sporty, edgier look. An innovative cushion extension mechanism slides and rotates to deliver extended comfort for drivers behind the wheel. Perhaps the most attractive feature of the 2017 Cadenza is the Head Up Display (HUD) that displays information on the windshield directly in the driver’s line of sight. Additional upgrades such as the Around View Monitor, rear camera for parking assist, and smart control system for seat warmers add up to an ergonomically intelligent design that enhances the Cadenza’s driving experience. Moreover, the high quality materials and soft interior contours add sheer luxury to the Cadenza’s already attractive cabin. Delivering Performance The new Cadenza is built upon a strong foundation with a body structure composed of more than 50 percent Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) with stronger side body panels to improve the sedan’s dent resistance. The new 3.3-liter V6 engine affords high efficiency and lower emissions. Furthermore, Kia’s newly developed FWD-based eight-speed automatic transmission is highly efficient, providing quick and crisp shifts for a more enjoyable driving experience that will set it apart from competitors. Most importantly, with cutting-edge driver assistance features, the 2017 Cadenza will be the first Kia to be sold under the DRIVE WiSE sub-brand (in the US only for the time being). The newly introduced features will ensure more confident handling and safer driving. Improving upon many elements of its already successful predecessor, the all-new Kia Cadenza made an unforgettable global debut. Handsome, luxurious and refined, the second-generation model is set for launch in overseas markets later this year. Take a closer look at the magnificent features of Kia’s newest luxury sedan! 21. Another piece of evidence has surfaced suggesting that Kia is moving ahead with plans for a small sports car. The Korean brand filed a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for “Kia Stinger,” listed under passenger cars and sport cars. The name was first used on the GT4 Stinger Concept which was presented at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show packing a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine sending 315 horsepower to the rear wheels. A second concept called the Kia Novo previewed what a small sports sedan would like from Kia, and the most recent rumors suggest the production model will have four doors. SEE ALSO: Kia GT4 Stinger Video, First Look In November of 2015, Kia filed to protect “Kia GT4 Stinger” in Europe, but that filing garnered numerous opponents, which means other companies were claiming copyright infringement. The new filing in the U.S. drops the GT4 moniker and specifically lists the name as for a sports car, unlike the first filing which was listed with numerous uses. Some details of the USPTO filing also suggest that Kia is trying to avoid a copyright issue. Specifically, it protects “an oval containing stylized wording “KIA” in capital letters, bold print font,” reads the filing. “To the right of the oval is the word STINGER in capital letters, print font.” This suggests that Kia isn’t trying to trademark the Stinger name specifically, just the use of its Kia name next to the word Stinger. Production of Kia’s new sports car, likely called the Stinger, is supposed to begin in 2017. Discuss this story at our Kia Forum The post Kia Stinger Sports Car Hinted in New Trademark Filing appeared first on AutoGuide.com News. Lees het hele artikel
