The 2017 Kia Classic ended in another resounding success as South Korean golfer Mirim Lee took home the iconic orange champion’s vase. After being runner-up of the event for the past two years, Lee’s step up on the podium was further punctuated by the fact that she scored 20 under par, tying the all-time tournament record. The eighth annual Kia Classic returned to the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort in California where 144 talented LPGA golfers competed for the championship title. Spectators from all over the world gathered at the resort and in front of their televisions to witness the palm-sweating 72 holes shot over the course of the week. As title sponsors, Kia offered a fleet of vehicles for use on the grounds and a range of family friendly activities including a junior golf clinic, group yoga and player autograph sessions. Worst Three-Row Vehicles of 2017: Consumer Reports
Kiaclub Nieuwsrobot plaatste een topic in Kianieuws van Autoguide.com
Not all three-row vehicles are comfortable. Consumer Reports has released its list of the worst three-row vehicles available this year, based on seat comfort and ease of access to the third-row seat. That means other considerations weren’t factored in, such as test performance and reliability. SEE ALSO: Midsize Three-Row Crossover Comparison Test But if you’re in the market for a three-row vehicle and seat comfort along with ease of access are priorities, you may want to avoid these vehicles. Land Rover Range Rover Sport Priced from $66,645 including destination, the Range Rover Sport from Land Rover can be purchased with either a 3.0-liter V6 engine with 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque or a 3.0-liter diesel engine with 254 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. The standard gasoline engine returns 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway for a 19-mpg combined rating, while the diesel is rated at 22-mpg city and 28-mpg highway for a 25-mpg combined rating. Kia Sorento With seating for up to seven, the Kia Sorento is an affordable option starting from $26,495. There’s also a plethora of engines to choose from, with the standard model offering a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 185 hp. There’s also a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 240 hp and at the top of the range is a 3.3-liter V6 with 290 hp. Fuel economy ranges depending on the powerplant, but the base engine returns 21 mpg in the and 28 mpg on the highway for 24-mpg combined. Volvo XC90 There’s a lot to like about the Volvo XC90, but it’s not exactly the easiest to get into or the most comfortable for the third-row passengers, according to Consumer Reports. The luxury SUV starts from $53,245 if you plan on seating seven, which means opting for the T6 AWD model. That does net a 316-hp and 295 lb-ft of torque gasoline engine that returns up to 25 mpg on the highway. Dodge Journey It may be plenty affordable with a $22,240 starting price, but the Dodge Journey isn’t ideal to actually go on a journey in for third-row passengers. There is, however, the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine under the hood with 283 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, although it comes standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 173 hp and 166 lb-ft of torque. Folding the rear seats gets you up to 67.6 cubic feet of cargo space. BMW X5 It’s one of the most popular luxury SUVs on the market, but Consumer Reports doesn’t recommend it when it comes to ease of access and comfort for third-row passengers. The standard model is the BMW X5 sDrive35i powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbocharged engine with 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Priced from $56,495, the BMW X5 has a wide range of options and powertrains available that could push that ticket price well over $70,000. Hyundai Santa Fe The seven-seater Hyundai Santa Fe starts from $31,695 with a maximum of 80 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the front seats. Under the hood is a 3.3-liter V6 providing 290 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe returns a respectable 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. Audi Q7 Another luxury SUV on the list, the Audi Q7 starts from $49,950 and that includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Maximum cargo volume is 71.6 cubic feet, but you’ll have to sacrifice the seating for seven. The other engine option is a 3.0-liter supercharged six-cylinder engine with 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque and that demands a $6,500 premium. Kia Files Trademark for Mysterious E’ Insignia
Kiaclub Nieuwsrobot plaatste een topic in Kianieuws van Autoguide.com
The mysterious trademark application appeared on the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Filed on March 23, 2017, the trademark application shows a round “E” insignia logo that suggests Kia will launch a sub-brand for its future electric vehicles. Currently the Korean automaker only has the Soul EV in its lineup, but will likely add an all-electric version of its new Niro crossover. Last year it was reported Hyundai and Kia plan to launch at least 26 combined electrified vehicles across both lineups by 2020, with at least 12 hybrids, six plug-in hybrids, two EVs and two fuel cell vehicles. It’s a strong possibility those electrified vehicles will spawn a sub-brand for Kia, similar to BMW’s i and Mercedes-Benz’s EQ. SEE ALSO: Kia’s Newest Crossover Likely Getting an All-Electric Variant The trademark application is classified under: “Automobiles; Parts and fittings for automobiles; Wheelchairs; Parachutes; Electric vehicles; Ships; Airplanes; Rolling stock for railways; Motorcycles; Bicycles; Carts; Baby carriages; Tires for vehicle wheels; Inner tubes for vehicle tires; Suspension shock absorbers for vehicles; Vehicle suspension springs; Brake systems for vehicles; Tractors for agricultural purposes; Engines for land vehicles; Gearing for land vehicles; Bearings for land vehicles; Motors for land vehicles; Military vehicles for transport; Horns for vehicles; Balance weights for vehicle wheels; Power tailgates (Am.) [parts of land vehicles]; Air pumps for two-wheeled motor vehicles or bicycles.” Discuss this story on our Kia Forum The post Kia Files Trademark for Mysterious ‘E’ Insignia appeared first on AutoGuide.com News. Kia’s Baby Crossover Appears in Spy Shots Again
Kiaclub Nieuwsrobot plaatste een topic in Kianieuws van Autoguide.com
[See image gallery at www.autoguide.com] Expected to be called the Kia Stonic, the compact crossover has been spied testing in Germany. The first time spy photographers caught the Stonic, it was testing on a frozen lake in Sweden but it was heavily camouflaged. This particular prototype has shed some of the camouflage, giving us a better look. Unfortunately it’s still difficult to pick out details on the crossover’s styling, but it’s starting to look like it will resemble the Rio. The model is expected to have a closely related Hyundai variant, which means both crossovers should share powertrains while having significantly different exterior and interior styles. Expect both models to come available with a range of turbocharged engines, although it’s unclear if either will offer all-wheel drive. SEE ALSO: Kia Stonic Small SUV Spied For the First Time The Kia Stonic is rumored to debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September before making its U.S. debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. Sales could start late this year in Europe, but it’s unclear when it will arrive dealerships in North America. Best Three-Row Vehicles of 2017: Consumer Reports
Kiaclub Nieuwsrobot plaatste een topic in Kianieuws van Autoguide.com
If you’re in the market for a three-row vehicle, you’ll likely want to start your research from this list. Consumer Reports has revealed its list of the best three-row vehicles available this year, judged on seat comfort and ease of access to the third-row seat. It’s worth noting the models were selected based on the seating, without factoring other key considerations like test performance and reliability. SEE ALSO: Midsize Three-Row Crossover Comparison Test While larger SUVs provide both better access and more cargo space, you’ll want to look towards a minivan if you want to have a better third-row seat for children as well as adults. Here are the best three-row vehicles: Ford Expedition EL The 2017 Ford Expedition XLT Extended Length (EL) starts from $51,030 including destination and comes powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Passenger volume comes in at 168.3 cubic feet and offers seating up to eight. Chrysler Pacifica The all-new Chrysler Pacifica minivan is competitively priced from $29,590 and under the hood is the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The American automaker has also introduced a hybrid variant with a starting price of $43,090. Kia Sedona Starting from $27,850 the Kia Sedona offers a competitive package in the minivan segment with a 3.3-liter V6 engine providing 276 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. It returns 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway for a 20-mpg combined rating while boasting 142 cubic feet of cargo volume total. Honda Odyssey The popular Honda Odyssey has remained one of the most reliable minivans on the market and has just received a substantial overhaul for the 2018 model year. The latest-generation Odyssey features innovative Magic Slide second-row seats for easier access to the third row. Pricing for the 2018 model has not been announced but we should expect to hear an announcement soon as it heads to dealerships this spring. Toyota Sienna Like the Honda Odyssey, the Toyota Sienna has been a solid option in the minivan segment for years. The Japanese automaker calls it the “Swagger Wagon” and it starts from $30,710. Under the hood is a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 296 hp and 263 lb-ft of torque, while returning 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway for a 22-mpg combined rating. Total cargo volume comes in at 150 cubic feet. Lincoln Navigator This luxury SUV from Lincoln doesn’t come cheap, starting from $64,710. What you do get however is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with 380 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy ranges with the most fuel-efficient configuration coming from the standard Navigator model with two-wheel drive, returning 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway for a 21-mpg combined rating. Chevrolet Suburban Starting from $51,210 the Chevrolet Suburban features a 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine providing 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Maximum cargo space comes in at 121.7 cubic feet, while the two-wheel-drive model offers best-in-class highway fuel economy of 23 mpg. The Suburban also has a 8,300-lb max towing capacity. GMC Yukon XL This full-size SUV has a sticker price of $52,525 and can accommodate up to nine passengers. It’s 20.4 inches longer than the standard GMC Yukon so owners have more cargo and legroom for third-row passengers. Like the Chevrolet Suburban, power comes from a 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque while returning 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway in two-wheel-drive trim. Mercedes-Benz GLS The most expensive and luxurious model on the list is the Mercedes-Benz GLS, starting from $69,625. That gets you a 3.0-liter V6 biturbo engine cranking out 362 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, but like other Mercedes models, there’s plenty more performance if you’re willing to pay. The GLS550 has a 4.7-liter V8 biturbo under the hood with 449 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque while at the top of the range is the AMG GLS63 with 577 hp and 561 lb-ft of torque from a 5.5-liter AMG V8 biturbo. This seven-seater has a cargo capacity of 93.8 cubic feet and returns 17 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway in base model trim. Buick Enclave The Buick Enclave starts from $39,990 and is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine with 288 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. It offers seating for up to eight and 115.2 cubic feet of cargo volume while returning 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. Chevrolet Traverse There’s an all-new 2018 Chevrolet Traverse heading to dealerships soon, boasting Smart Slide second-row seating that has been enhanced to let passengers slide and tilt the passenger-side seat for access to the third row even if there’s a child seat in place. Engine options include a 3.6-liter V6 or 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with a nine-speed automatic geared for fuel efficiency. The new model won’t head to dealerships until summer 2017 so if you’re eager, the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse is available now starting from $29,595. Nissan Quest The seven-seat minivan from Nissan starts from $27,520 and comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 260 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. Paired to an Xtronic CVT, the Quest returns 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway while offering 108.4 cubic feet of cargo capacity with all seats folded down. Dodge Grand Caravan Sooner or later the Dodge Grand Caravan will quietly fade away to the new Chrysler Pacifica, but for now, it’s still alive. Priced from $24,590 it’s an affordable option for those looking for plenty of cargo space – 143 cubic feet to be exact. There’s a familiar 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine powering the minivan, with 283 hop and 260 lb-ft of torque while returning up to 25 mpg on the highway. Toyota Sequoia It’s the most outdated model on the list, having not been refreshed for quite some time now, but the Toyota Sequoia carries on with a $46,755 starting price. Under the hood a 5.7-liter V8 engine is paired to a six-speed automatic, providing 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque with rear-wheel drive standard. Along with optional four-wheel drive, buyers can opt for a Flex Fuel engine for more versatility with E85. Fuel economy comes in at 15 mpg combined for the two-wheel drive model, returning 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway. Are side mirrors becoming a thing of the past? With the advent of self-driving cars and autonomous technologies, new laws and regulations are now making it possible for automakers to replace side mirror systems with cameras and monitors. While seemingly uncanny, this mirrorless design is already starting to show up as an experimental concept in prototype autonomous vehicles. How will this transformation impact the way we drive in the future? Blind Spots No More Eliminating side mirrors will mean eliminating their biggest design flaw – the blind spot. An assembly of strategically placed cameras called a Camera Monitoring System (CMS) will do away with this problem by allowing drivers to monitor the road through a series of monitors inside the car, thereby providing a wider blind-spot-free field of vision. Camera systems will also remove other viewing obstructions caused by external factors such as weather and other vehicles on the road. Increased Aerodynamics Kia Ray Concept Replacing side mirrors with a camera system that weighs significantly less will mean that the weight of your vehicle will be reduced as well. In addition, one less feature mounted to the exterior of a vehicle will create a more streamlined design that results in better performance with reduced air resistance. With improved aerodynamics, cars will deliver better fuel efficiency at high speeds with significantly less wind and road noise. Flexibility in Design With a mirrorless system, automakers will be able to be more creative with car designs. Unlike side mirrors which have to be placed in one designated spot, camera systems can be located more flexibly which allows for the incorporation of unconventional shapes and aesthetics. Kia GT Concept Kia Novo Concept Kia has showcased many mirrorless concept cars in the past and with the development of new road regulations and CMS technologies it seems that the realization of such conceptual designs is now closer than ever to becoming a reality. While visible progress into the era of mirrorless cars is being made, the idea is still very much limited to prototypes. Aiming for more innovation, Kia is actively developing mirrorless systems to conceive more sophisticated and safer vehicles for future generations. What are your thoughts on mirrorless driving? [See image gallery at www.autoguide.com] Quietly introduced at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid will go on sale in the U.S. before the end of this year. Geneva is most well known for supercar and hypercar debuts, so it’s easy to forget a more pedestrian model like a plug-in hybrid crossover. The model will go on sale in Europe during the third quarter, joining the current Niro Hybrid. Rumor has it that the Korean automaker will likely add an all-electric variant to the lineup as well. The Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid pairs a 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with an 8.9-kWh battery, which is significantly larger than the 1.56-kWh battery used in the standard Niro Hybrid. Total system output from the powertrain sits at 139 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. On the generous NEDC, its electric-driving range is 34 miles, though we expect that to be around 25 miles based on the U.S. cycle. SEE ALSO: Kia’s Newest Crossover Likely Getting an All-Electric Variant Zero-to-62 mph (0-100 km/h) comes in at 10.8 seconds, which is 0.7 seconds faster than the Niro Hybrid. On the outside, the plug-in hybrid variant has a few differences, including a new satin chrome grille surround, special chrome brightwork with a blue-metallic finish, thin “blades” in the front and rear bumpers, unique 16-inch wheels designed to reduce wind resistance, full LED headlights and “Eco Plug-in” badging. The blue theme continues into the cabin, which offers either single-tone black leather upholstery or two-tone light grey and black leather contrasted by blue stitching and blue surround on the air vents. There’s a new seven-inch full-TFT driver instrument cluster and an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid comes with vehicle stability management, electronic stability control, autonomous emergency braking with forward collision-avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, driver attention warning, smart cruise control, blind spot warning and rear-cross traffic alert. Expect pricing to be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch later this year.
