  4. Kia’s new luxury flagship will set you back by quite a few smackeroos: $60,400 to be exact. Meant to compete as a less expensive alternative to German luxury brands, the K900 will arrive first with a V8 sending 420 hp to the rear wheels, followed by a less expensive six-cylinder version. The car uses an eight speed automatic transmission and is expected to average 18 mpg when mated with the V8. Standard equipment for the car includes front- and rear-facing cameras, 18-inch wheels, LEDs for the lamps at both ends and adaptive headlights, a 900-watt speaker system pumping from 17 locations in the cabin and headed and cooled front seats. Nappa leather upholstery is also standard along with a panoramic sunroof, real wood inserts and a heated steering wheel. Standard safety and convenience technology includes parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warnings and blind sport monitoring. Another $6,000 brings something called the VIP package to add adaptive cruise control, reclining rear seats with heating, cooling and lumbar support, a 16-way adjustable driver’s seat, a surround-view parking monitor, head-up display, a customizable instrument cluster and soft-closing door latches. With the K900, Kia is taking the same approach as Hyundai did with the Equus by offering simple packaging with a long list of standard features. Pricing for the V6 will be announced closer to its release date. The company is also packaging the car with a three-year, 37,500-mile warranty. The program comes with free scheduled maintenance and owners will be given a K900 loaner vehicle while theirs is being serviced. That program is in addition to the brand’s usual 10-year, 100,000-mile new car warranty with roadside assistance. GALLERY: 2015 Kia K900 Discuss this story at our Kia K900 forum. 6. Kia has unveiled its 2014 Super Bowl commercial, which stars Laurence Fishburne reprising his role as Morpheus from the Matrix movies. The Korean automaker is hoping its K900 luxury sedan will push the brand into a more premium segment and its Super Bowl commercial, titled “The Truth,” focuses on that luxury standpoint. An unsuspecting couple meets Morpheus at a valet stand and presents them two choices: a blue key or a red key – much like Neo was given the choice between the blue pill or the red pill. SEE ALSO: Kia K900 Powers Rear Wheels, Brand’s Push into Premium Segment From there, the three take a journey in the Kia K900 where the couple will challenge the luxury they know, and perhaps never look at luxury, or Kia, the same again. 15. The Kia K900 is the Korean automaker’s first model sporting an alphanumeric nameplate, but it might not be its last. Known as the K9 in South Korea, the automaker’s sedan is named the Quoris in other markets. Originally it was believed that the K900 would also be called the Quoris in North America, but the idea of an alphanumeric name gave it more of a luxury appeal than just Quoris. The result was the K900 nameplate, which Kia admits might not be the last of the alphanumeric models. SEE ALSO: Kia K900 Powers Rear Wheels, Brand’s Push into Premium Segment According to Scott McKee, Kia Motors USA public relations director, the K900 “could result in other models with alphanumeric designations down the road.” Though Kia wouldn’t confirm anything as definite, McKee did state that “it would certainly make sense.” It’s likely that Kia will turn to alphanumeric names for its more luxurious, high-end models. Not only would those nameplates separate it from the rest of its model lineup, it gives it the sort of prestige that mimics what the German automakers do with their nomenclature. 20. There’s no place like home. That’s why we invited our extended Kia family to Kia’s home in Seoul, Korea, to spend some quality time in the very birthplace of many of our vehicles. We wanted to give our Kia fans from all over the world a chance to experience true Kia hospitality by showing our gratitude and giving back to our fans. Kia first introduced the Kia Customer Loyalty Program in 2012 in order to connect with Kia fans on a more personal level by letting them experience Korean culture while also giving a sneak peek into the future Kia lineup, along with a tour of Kia’s flagship Hwasung manufacturing plant. To give you some sense of how the program works, we want to share a testimonial and photos from Izhar in Malaysia. “An avid user of Kia,” he’s shared with us how warm and insightful his stay in Korea was. *** I am an avid user of Kia cars since 2003 when I bought my second car which was a Kia. At that point, I have to admit that there was not much of a market for Kia cars in Malaysia. However I was attracted to the design and practicality of the car that was suitable for my usage at that point in time. That is my starting point with Kia cars and since then I have owned Kia cars such as Spectra, Rio, Optima and currently I am a proud owner of Sorento. Furthermore, due to my heavy usage of the vehicle, it needs to be sent for service almost every month. All the cars that I owned never failed me in terms of safety, durability and comfort. Who would have known, after 10 years with Kia, I was finally rewarded with an unexpected, most precious appreciation from Kia Motors Corporation and Naza Kia Malaysia. It came unexpectedly when I had the opportunity to join the Kia Go Xtra Campaign by sending a creative moment with Kia cars to Naza Kia Malaysia. I did not anticipate anything after that until that fateful call from Naza Kia Malaysia informing me of the great news. 5 days and 4 nights in Korea is way more than I could imagine and it’s a feeling that is hard to describe or even imagine. Everything seemed so surreal until the day we set foot in Korea on the morning of 21 October 2013. We were warmly welcomed and transferred smoothly to Lotte World Hotel by Kia staff in a very VIP-like manner, had our breakfast and checked in to our room. After 1 hour of rest, we had a blast enjoying the day to ourselves, exploring the streets of Seoul and shopping away till late evening. We started our journey on day two very early, had breakfast and a mini briefing where we had the chance to finally meet the other participants from all over the world. After a quick intro and chat among us, we were then brought to Kia Motors global headquarters for presentations on Kia’s transformation as well as Korean culture. We also had the chance to visit a Kia showroom and had a preview of the K9. We adjourned for a Korean traditional lunch and later had the opportunity to get a taste of Korean traditional culture. One of the interesting activities was learning how to make a Hanji (Korean traditional paper) doll craft guided by experts. Later we were given time to do some shopping at Insadong market. For dinner, we were treated to a Welcome Dinner at Lotte Hotel Ballroom where we finally had the chance to mingle around with the other participants. It’s one of my treasured moments as we could share with each other experiences using Kia cars and how Kia has evolved through time. *** To learn more about how you can win a trip to Korea with the Kia Customer Loyalty Program, please visit here.
