Hyundai and Kia have issued the largest vehicle recall in South Korea since the current recall system was introduced there in 2003. About 660,000 vehicles across both Korean automakers’ lineups are being recalled for a faulty brake switch, an issue that has affected over two million vehicles worldwide. The recall hit North America in April with more than 1.8 million vehicles in the U.S. alone. Smaller recalls have since been launched in other markets such as Korea and China. SEE ALSO: Kia, Hyundai Recall 1.7M Units Over Stop Lamp Switch Issue Additionally, South Korea won’t be the last country to have a recall issued, according to a statement released by Hyundai: ”We plan to carry out additional recalls in other countries in accordance with their regulations and systems.” The most recent recall in South Korea affects 662,519 vehicles produced between the 2007 through 2011 model years to replace potentially faulty brake switches that fail to activate stop lamps or fail to disengage the cruise control when the brake pedal is depressed. Kia’s 2014 Sorento crossover is one of the latest models to earn a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The vehicle is only three years only, but the Korean brand says 80 percent of its parts are new for 2014. It rides on a new platform shared with the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. It is unusual for a car in the middle of its lifecycle to come with that much new content, but the brand and parent Hyundai are actually saving money on redundant tooling by moving the Sorento to a new platform. NHTSA scored the car with five stars overall. That rating is based on three sub-ratings: a rollover test as well as frontal and side-impact crashes. The vehicle scored five stars in both of the crash tests but four in rollover testing. The rating is identical to the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. SEE ALSO: 2014 Kia Sorento Review In addition to that rating, the Sorento was also named a “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Despite the name, that isn’t the highest rating issued by the IIHS. In order to earn that distinction, it needs to earn a “good” rating in four of the five tests and no worse than an “acceptable” rating in the fifth. The Sorento hasn’t undergone the recently-introduced “small overlap” test most vehicles are currently struggling to pass. There are four ratings given: good, acceptable, marginal and poor. Is there a market for a $70,000 Kia in the United States? We might be finding out soon enough when the K900 arrives. The luxury sedan was confirmed for dealerships in North America by the Korean automaker last week, and it is believed that the car will be priced anywhere from $50,000 to $70,000 when it’s released in the U.S. Now it is being reported that the high-end models of the K900 will undoubtedly reach the $70,000 price tag. Kia has confirmed to its dealers that the rear-wheel-drive Quoris sedan will be heading to North America as the K900 early next year. The K900 will be the Korean automaker’s first rear-wheel-drive production sedan sold in North America and will be its new U.S. flagship model. It is also sold in South Korea as the K9. Equipped with advanced safety technologies, the Kia K900 will be offered with either a V6 or V8 engine with the V8 producing upwards of 420 hp. The V6 will likely be the 3.8-liter engine sold in South Korea with 290 hp. Also expected to make its way to the K900 is the eight-speed automatic transmission. Though pricing was not discussed, the K900 is expected to launch with a base price between $50,000 and $70,000. In other markets, the K900 features adaptive LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, a 17-speaker premium stereo system and a head-up display that shows cruising speed, turn-by-turn navigation and other details. All those features are expected to make it into the North American variant. According to the dealers present, the K900 will launch initially in a limited number of dealerships in key markets including the West Coast, New England and Florida. The 2014 Kia Optima will be priced from $22,300 including destination, the Korean automaker has announced. Kia gave its 2014 Optima a mild refresh with revised styling inside and out including a new LCD screen in the info cluster and an available eight-inch navigation screen. Available as an option now on the 2014 Optima is a blind spot monitoring system, which includes rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors. The base model 2014 Kia Optima LX is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 200 hp. Available on the Optima LX is a $1,400 convenience plus package which adds 10-way power driver seat, auto-dimming rearview mirror with homelink, rearview camera display and laminated front door windows. Opting for a navigation system will land you in the Optima EX model which starts at $24,700. Included in the more upscale EX model are leather seats, 17-inch wheels, eight-way power driver seat, illuminated front cupholders, rear air conditioning, hands-free keyless entry, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob. Available on the EX model is a $3,150 premium package while the technology package will run you $2,000. The Optima SX model will also now be available with both non-hybrid engines with the 2.4-liter model starting at $26,050. The SX-T which features a turbocharged 2.0-liter with 274 hp will be priced from $28,000. Lastly is the top-of-the-line Optima SX-L which starts at $37,100. It is only offered with the turbo 2.0-liter engine and includes 18-inch chrome wheels, new LED foglights, red brake calipers, chrome exterior trim, an electronic parking brake and Nappa leather seats. Kia has not announced pricing on the 2014 Optima Hybrid yet. All Optima models feature a six-speed automatic transmission. Tja, een klein motortje (dat je op toeren moet houden) in een relatief zware auto.Dan kan een beste helling wel eens een probleem in V worden.Op tijd terug schakelen kan dat voorkomen.Hoeveel toeren draait de motor in V bij 130 km/uur? En in IV bij 100 km/uur?Op zich zullen de 17 inch velgen het probleem niet veroorzaken.Van belang is de bandenmaat en met name hoe breed en hoog deze zijn.Maar dan nog is dit niet de oorzaak, het kan het probleem wel iets verergeren. Afgelopen vakantie naar Duitsland geweest en hier kwam ik tot de ontdekkingdat mijn Kia inhoud als ik bergopwaarts rijd. Al rijdend op de snelweg in Duitslandmoesten we bergopwaarts rijden, we reden ongeveer 130 km/u maar eenmaslaan de klim begonnen merkte ik dat de auto langzamer ging rijden,merkte dat het gaspedaal niet meer reageerde in zijn 5, dus gaspedaal tot op de grond in gedrukt maar geen enkele reactie. We rijden nu 100 km/udus ik schakel terug naar 4 maar deze reageert hetzelde, dus ook dezekon ik indrukken tot de bodem zonder enige reactie van de motor. We zijn bijna boven en rijden nu 60 km/u, meerdere keren ingehaald dooralles, ook vrachtwagens, dus dan maar in zijn 3 rijden tot boven. En zois het heel de vakantie gegaan als we bergopwaarts moesten.Eenmaal thuis gekomen langs de dealer gegaan, aan de computergehangen maar niks gevonden. Heeft iemand hier ook ervaringen meeof kan iemand mij helpen.Dealer zei dat het misschien aan mijn 17 inch velgen kan liggen....Graag reacties.Dennis Lees het hele artikel
