Kia is finding inspiration from classic Nintendo games for its latest ad campaign. The Korean automaker enlisted the aid of football legends Bo Jackson and Brian Bosworth for a new campaign that will air during NBC’s upcoming “Sunday Night Football” broadcast. As the NFL season kicks off this week, Kia has created two ads that are inspired by the classic Tecmo Bowl video game, widely considered one of the best sports video games ever created, even three decades after its release. Kia Motors has opened the doors of its newest production facility in Mexico! As one of the largest Kia manufacturing plants in the world and the first in the Latin America region, the plant located in Pesquería, Nuevo León was officially launched at a grand opening ceremony attended by over 500 people. The new Mexico production plant is expected to increase Kia’s global manufacturing capacity to 3.56 million vehicles annually. As a high-tech integrated automotive production center, the facility is equipped with 420 robots automating the manufacturing processes. Currently operating in one shift, the plant produces one car every 53 seconds! By 2017, the production facility will have created 14,000 direct and indirect jobs within the region and is expected to reach annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicle units. The plant will also produce the all-new fourth generation Rio, currently gearing up for its global premiere in Paris. The site will also include a training center for assembly line workers. By implementing a comprehensive human resources system and vocational training programs, Kia will ensure that all employees continually hone their skills and are provided with opportunities for future advancement. Meanwhile, a new on-site quality control center will carry out advanced component quality evaluation to guarantee continuous improvement to product quality and to exceed consumer expectations. In addition to the manufacturing system, the Mexico production facility will also invest US$1 million annually for local CSR initiatives. Activities such as vehicle donations and financial support for low-income households and the local education system will be carried out for the betterment of the region. Representing a US$3 billion investment by Kia, the Mexico plant is sure to have a significant positive impact on the Pesquería region and the overall Mexican automotive industry. The new Kia Rio gets an all-new look that features the brand’s tiger nose grille along with a new set of bi-function projections headlights with new U-shaped LED lighting. The new Rio is slightly larger than its predecessor, growing by 0.19 inches (5 mm) in width, 0.4 inches (10 mm) in wheelbase, and 0.6 inches (15 mm) in overall length. Black or grey upholstery is available inside along with black or grey artificial leather while a new Red Pack brings along red accents throughout the inside. Details on the powertrain and driving technology are still in the dark, with Kia simply saying that the new Rio will have “class-leading practicality and safety technology.” The fourth-generation Rio will begin production at the end of 2016 for Europe.
