Kia is planning to build some new sports cars, including a hot hatch rival to the Ford Fiesta ST. First, Kia will launch the GT, a four-door coupe styled sports car that is expected to reach production in 2017. That will act as a halo sports car, under which will sit the already existing Optima GT, Procee’d GT, and the all-new Rio GT hot hatch. A 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 180 hp is expected to power the Rio GT, which will sit on an all-new lightweight platform. The new Kia Rio is expected to launch in 2017, so it is likely the GT will hit the market in 2018 or 2019. Israel The Israeli automobile market hit an all-time record for overall car sales in the past year and Kia Israel took the number one spot for cars delivered with an impressive 13.2% market share in 2015. Placing ahead of Hyundai, Toyota and Mazda, Kia delivered a total of 34,606 vehicles (registration basis) – another local record for delivery by a single brand. To add to this accomplishment, Kia Picanto was the overall best-selling vehicle model in the country, with the Sportage following in third place. With vehicle sales figures expected to hit an all-time high in January, we are excited to see more success from Kia Israel. Chile For the first time since the launch of the brand in 1989, Kia Chile took first place in sales in the country’s automobile market. With a grand total of 27,988 Kia vehicles sold and a market share of 9.9% in 2015, Kia Chile has brought the brand to the pinnacle of the Chilean automobile market. This feat was achieved despite the ongoing challenges in the Chilean market such as the devalued Chilean Peso and the deprecation of copper prices. According to Mr. Tae-Hyun Oh, Executive Vice President and COO of Kia Motors, Kia Chile’s success is “a best–case example that all of our overseas distributors should strive to emulate.” Russia Despite the market decline in 2015, Kia Russia accumulated a record of 163,500 units in vehicle sales. Ranking first place in the foreign car market, Kia took a close second place in overall car sales, just behind the domestic brand Lada. Furthermore, it is estimated that in just 6 years, Kia Russia has sold over 1 million Kia vehicles. By taking 10% market share and adding 12 new dealerships in the country last year, the prospects for 2016 are very promising. Taking first place in any country market is no small accomplishment and Kia Motors would like to thank worldwide fans for their incredible love and support. With the launch of the sub-brand DRIVE WiSE at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Kia Motors revealed current developments and future plans for autonomous driving technologies. In an expansive 4800 square foot exhibition booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Kia fully embraced the theme “Evolution of Autonomous Vehicles,” demonstrating the brand’s ongoing dedication to the realization of a driverless vehicle. The buzz about Kia at CES has been going on for quite some time now, and today, Kia BUZZ will take you on a tour through the engaging and innovative exhibits. Read on to find out more! During the event which spanned from January 6-9, Kia displayed its ongoing plans for the development of automobile technology with a special selection of cars and interactive displays. Kia’s booth exhibited three concepts — current ADAS technologies, future ADAS developments, and full autonomous driving — which were presented as a roadmap reflecting the present and imminent to distant future of autonomous automobile innovations. All-new Sportage displays latest innovations To display the current ADAS developments, the all–new Sportage was selected for exhibition. Featuring the latest ADAS technolgy and UVO 3, Kia’s upgraded telematics and infotainment system, the SUV boasted cutting-edge functionality and technological comforts. To provide visitors with more information about the current range of technologies, Kia displayed an informative video outlining the newest driving assistance features of the Sportage. The UVO 3 system, which made its official debut mounted on the All-new Sportage, was also on display at interactive kiosks for visitors to have their firsthand experience. As the first system by Kia to feature phone connectivity, the UVO 3 allows control via smartphone app to provide services such as music playing, voice recognition, navigation, diagnostics and rear camera display for added convenience and an enhanced driving experience. Novo and the near future of ADAS driving First revealed at the 2015 Seoul Motor Show, the stunning Kia Novo concept also made an appearance at Kia’s exhibition booth. Boasting upgraded HMI features such as the compact 3-dimensional hologram display, fingerprint detection sensors and gesture recognition, the Novo concept embodies future trends in car control and functionality. To further showcase the next-generation HMI system on the Novo, Kia Motors presented a special I-Cockpit display which gave visitors of the booth a chance to simulate the finesse and complexities of the evolved assistance system. Autonomous Soul EV envisions the future The autonomous Soul EV which has been cruising the public roads of Nevada since acquisition of its autonomous license, was also presented at Kia’s exhibit at CES. In order to provide visitors with the autonomous driving experience, Kia ran a 360-degree simulation VR using an Oculus headset. The VR, complete with the Soul cockpit simulator seats created an exciting 4D experience for participants right on the convention floor. Amidst the exciting reveal of the DRIVE WiSE sub-brand and exhibits, Kia was presented with the prestigious “Pioneer Award” for Kia’s new multi-media service Kia Connected Services. This award, presented jointly by Auto Bild and Computer Bild for the “Connected Car” category honored the brand’s pioneering innovations in networking technologies. Kia Connected Services, which provides live traffic updates, information for regional locations and weather, is mounted in the next generation of the European Sportage and is expected to be applied to all Kia models in the future. With this service and the vast array of innovations exhibited for DRIVE WiSE, Kia promises to continue to bring sophisticated innovations to create enjoyable driving experiences for worldwide fans. With a newly acquired Nevada autonomous driving license, Kia has demonstrated the full potential for next generation DRIVE WiSE technologies with our very own autonomous Soul EV. Starting and parking the autonomous Soul EV Soul on the road, operating without human control On the days leading up to the grand debut of the sub-brand at the 2016 CES, Kia conducted test drives on the roads of Death Valley allowing a select few to experience the intricacies and breadth of Kia’s newest autonomous driving innovations firsthand. Building upon Kia’s current ADAS program, the newest DRIVE WiSE technology provides greater levels of assistance based on user preference and automation for improved safety and comfort. The systems currently in development and expected to be added to latest Kia models include: Highway Autonomous Driving (HAD): Radar and camera systems interpret lane markings allowing the car to safely stay in its lane, switch into others or follow a different road without any driver input. Urban Autonomous Driving (UAD): Provides live traffic updates and employs GPS sensors to identify the car’s position on the road, assisting navigation through city traffic Preceding Vehicle Following (PVF): Advanced lane keeping system that enables the car to safely navigate around surrounding cars during poor weather or road conditions. Emergency Stop System (ESS): In connection with Kia’s Driver Status Monitoring (DSM), ESS analyses driver’s faces to bring the car to a safe stop on the side of the road if the driver’s attention strays from the road for too long. Traffic Jam Assist (TJA): Assists the car in maintaining safe distances from other vehicles during traffic congestion Autonomous Valet Parking: Enables the vehicle to park itself, using a smart key or smartwatch In addition, DRIVE WiSE technologies also foster optimized interaction between driver and automobile with upgraded Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems. While still under development, DRIVE WiSE will gradually introduce safety technologies to significantly improve the driving experience for Kia customers. The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit marked an exciting moment for Kia Motors, with the world debut of the Kia Telluride concept car demonstrating the brand’s capacity for sophisticated advances in design and functionality. Kia Telluride delivers luxurious comfort for passengers Following the teaser on January 6, the world premiere of the Kia Telluride concept has sparked worldwide interest in its delightful combination of elegance and cutting-edge technology. The Telluride displays emboldened design elements and in-cabin features that take Kia concepts in a fresh new direction. With the Telluride, Kia focuses on redefining not only the driving experience, but the passenger experience as well. The concept SUV’s rear-hinge doors allow the vehicle to open up completely and exhibit its luxury interior in a glance. The spacious cabin features beautiful leather reclining seats and foldaway footrests that optimize comfort. Each of the passenger seats is embedded with Smart Sensors that that track and display passengers’ vital health information on the interior door panel. In addition, the cabin features a Light Emitted Rejuvenation (LER) system intended for therapeutic treatment of jetlag and low energy levels. Kia Niro continues to tease and fascinate The first renderings of the Kia Niro in November caused a buzz among fans as the plans for Kia’s one and only Hybrid Utility Vehicle (HUV) were announced. Much to the excitement of fans, the first actual images of the Niro were revealed on the 2016 NAIAS show floor. Even at first glance, Niro’s sleek and aerodynamic profile exudes power and practicality. The high mounted LED taillights and raised haunches emphasize the car’s spacious and sculptured backside. However, there is more to the compact HUV than its aesthetic allure. Kia Niro is the first car to feature Kia’s new eco-car platform boasting an all-new downsized gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain that will allow the HUV to achieve low CO2 emissions in the sub-90 g/km range. Making its debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show is the Kia Telluride concept and we wouldn’t blame you if it reminds you of the Volvo XC90 SUV. Built on a modified version of the Kia Sorento’s architecture, the design study is considerably larger than the Sorento – almost 10-inches longer and nearly five-inches wider. It is also four-inches taller and rolls on a wheelbase that has been stretched by almost an entire 12 inches. Climbing into the cabin, the Telluride concept greets passengers with captain’s chairs in the first and second row. Under the hood of the concept is a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired to an electric motor to provide 400 horsepower while delivering over 30 miles-per-gallon on the highway. Although Kia claims that it currently has no plans to bring the model to market, don’t be surprised if it arrives in production form in a few years.
