  4. Automobiles have come a long way from being rudimentary modes of transportations to complex and multifunctional machines. While many notable changes have taken place to the exterior of vehicles, developments in the car interior have played a significant role in shaping the automobile experience for both drivers and passengers alike. Walking the tightrope between smart devices, entertainment units and mobile living spaces, the evolving functions of the car interior reflect the truly amazing design and engineering innovations that are taking place behind closed doors. Optimization of the interior space Kia Sedona (Grand Carnival) allows owners to redesign the interior space according to their needs The art of car interior design comes down to how well the limited space of a vehicle is structured and utilized into optimal interior space divisions. The role of car designers and engineers is to analyze every element of a vehicle and present the necessary functions in the most functional and aesthetically pleasing manner. Cup and cardholder design featured in the China-market Kia K4 Given the limited space within an automobile, securing sufficient storage area provides an interesting challenge. When designing the interior package, designers and engineers must carefully consider the driver’s perspective of comfort to optimize the placement of given vehicular functions. While maximizing the given space to provide tailored storage, car makers seek to develop an interior design that is receptive to every type of situation but also simultaneously stylish and luxurious. With the diversification of individual needs and continued advancement of driving technology, car interior design is growing in importance. Kia’s designers work to optimize designated spaces to offer cars that are suitable for different lifestyles and environments. Interior of the Kia Optima In addition, carmakers seek to design interior spaces that maximize and ease the interaction between the car and driver – a concept known as Human-Machine Interface (HMI) – while working to maintain each model’s unique aesthetic. HMI – Integrating technology and design HMI, conceptually defined as the interaction between humans and machines, is a system that supports communication between driver and automobile such as voice recognition, GPS navigation, touchscreens and various other forms of wireless communication technology. Intended for upgraded functionality, the system seeks to increase capabilities but reduce the cognitive workload of drivers while driving. The center fascia of the Kia Quoris (K900) Keeping this objective in mind, Kia designers and engineers create optimized driving platforms that facilitate effective and efficient communication in day-to-day driving situations. Through strategic placement of driving controls and technical features on the dashboard and center fascia, designers have given birth to user-friendly environments that minimize gaze dispersion and reach distance during operation to ensure a safe and uninterrupted driving experience. It is also crucial that the necessary displays, controls and switches are well integrated and stylish but also convenient and functional. Interior details of the Kia Sorento Maintaining well-balanced functionality is becoming increasingly important. As in-car technology evolves from systems of information to infotainment, it becomes a crucial for designers and engineers to develop driving platforms that provide valuable information but do not overwhelm with excessive functionality. Designing a practical HMI system requires limiting the number features and controls to maintain a sense of simplicity. HMI is considered one of the most essential elements of a global auto brand. In order to achieve the optimal point of aesthetics, functionality and safety, Kia developers have carefully studied the behavioral pattern of drivers to develop and position well-designed systems within vehicles that are intuitively easy to use and pleasing to the eye. 9. As a global organization that believes in the importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR), Kia Motors is always looking for ways to reach out and contribute to local communities. One of our biggest endeavors is the Green Light Project, a program dedicated to turning on the ‘green light’ of hope for those in need. Since 2012, the Green Light Project has been providing much-needed resources to improve the quality of life of individuals residing in developing regions of Africa. With the goal of aiding those areas in becoming self-reliant communities, Kia has contributed by building schools and medical centers and providing transportation vehicles to promote mobility for residents. This year, the third group of Kia employee volunteers returned to Southeast Africa to participate in ongoing community outreach. In the Salima district of Malawi, the GLP volunteer group launched a new mobility program, bringing a mobile clinic and library to an area with limited access to medical care, education and transportation. In addition to the school buses and transport vehicles previously provided by Kia, the program reinforces the brand’s promise of providing increased mobility to the world with its high quality vehicles. With ongoing and active CSR efforts in Tanzania, Malawi, Mozabique and Ethiopia, Kia has plans to continue to build and implement strategies that will empower individual residents and strengthen local communities to achieve the goal of self-sustainability and financial independence in the region. As Kia continues to grow as a worldwide brand, we are committed to social responsibility and ethical business practices that are befitting of a global corporation. In 2016, Kia Motors plans to continue to build and support the self-sustainability of the GLP regions and expand the campaigns further to areas in Asia and South America. 10. Since the grand launch of Kia Motors in Mexico, Kia has been hard at work building a new manufacturing facility located in Pesquería in the state of Nuevo León, which is the company’s first production plant in the Latin America region. After breaking ground in October 2014, the state-of-the-art Kia Motors Mexico plant was completed in just 13 months and holds the record for the fastest completed manufacturing facility in Kia history. In addition, the plant is one of the largest of any Kia manufacturing plants worldwide, spanning over an area of 500 hectares. Inspired by designs of traditional Mexican culture, the entrance of the site pays tribute to the archaeological site of Teotihuacan. In line with Kia’ dedication to utilizing green manufacturing practices to decrease CO2 emissions, Kia’s Mexico production plant boasts advanced technologies in energy and environmental conservation. In addition to using alternative energy sources, the plant possesses a water treatment complex that will prevent soil contamination and harmful runoff. ▶ Read more about Kia’s road map for going green! With an annual production capacity of 300,000 units, output from the Mexico plant is estimated to make up 10% of Kia’s total global manufacturing output. 60% of this output will be distributed to North America, 20% to the domestic of Mexico and the remaining 20% will be exported to countries in Latin America. After intensive quality assurance testing and pilot production, mass production of the Kia Forte (also known as the Cerato in many markets) is expected to begin in mid-2016. “Once mass production commences, it will take less than one minute for a vehicle to come off the assembly line, making our facility among the most productive among all Kia plants globally,” said Mr. Seong-Bae Kim, President of Kia Motors Mexico. “Today more than ever we feel very much a part of this wonderful country and want to convey that pride to all of the citizens of Mexico.” Kia Motors has already begun full retail operation in Mexico with 46 dealerships across the country. Over the long term, Kia Motor’s presence in Mexico is expected to generate approximately 14,000 direct jobs and 56,000 indirect jobs. With the operation of Kia Mexico manufacturing facility coming into full swing, we look forward to further feats and accomplishments on Kia’s journey for worldwide growth! Lees hele artikel

Read on to find out about the innovations that lie ahead on Kia’s 2020 road map! Expansion of Green Car Technology With an extensive five-year plan for the development of environmental friendly automotive technologies, Kia Motors aspires to be a leader in the low emission car market by 2020. These plans will help Kia achieve its goal of raising corporate fuel efficiency levels by 25%. A generous investment of 11.3 trillion won (US$10.2 billion) by Kia’s parent company, the Hyundai Motor Group, will be dedicated to the development of new vehicles and facilities with decreased CO2 emissions. This investment is estimated to create more than 7,300 new jobs in research and design and numerous others in overseas production facilities. Kia’s green car line-up is expected to grow from four to eleven models by 2020, all featuring environmentally-friendly powertrains from hybrid and plug-in hybrids to battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles. As the demand for fuel cell vehicles (FCEV) is expected to increase, Kia, along with 300 partner companies, will strive to satisfy this global need. The Optima HEV and PHEV also possess distinctive stylistic details that differentiate them from others models in the Optima range, featuring silver accents and a metallic blue finish on the rear bumper, grille and wheel arches as well as special “EcoHybrid’ and ‘EcoPlugin’ badges. Introducing Autonomous Driving Technology Kia Motors has also announced investment in the development of new autonomous driving technologies with the aim of introducing a range of partially-autonomous driving technologies by 2020 and fully-autonomous vehicles in the market by 2030. 25. Want to avoid purchasing a car you’ll regret buying? Consumer Reports has released the findings from its annual owner satisfaction survey, compiling a list of seven vehicles that owners regret buying the most. The publication asked 230,000 vehicle owners to consider all factors including price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc. to determine if they would purchase the car all over again. SEE ALSO: Five Worst New Cars by Consumer Reports A model’s satisfaction score is calculated based on the percentage of respondents who answered “definitely yes” to purchasing the vehicle again. The higher the percentage, the higher the satisfaction. Get the Flash Player to see this player. SUV: Jeep Compass / Jeep Patriot Only 46 percent of Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot owners would purchase their SUV again. One owner from Texas even went so far as to say that the Compass is “the worst vehicle I’ve ever driven.” Owners noted that the Jeep Compass and Patriot have poor gas mileage and are under equipped for the price. The American automaker is discontinuing both the Compass and Patriot for the 2016 model year and it could be for good reason. Sporty Car: Hyundai Veloster In the world of sports cars, the Hyundai Veloster takes the crown with only half its owners saying they would purchase it again. Owners complained about the Veloster’s lack off power while it felt cheaply made and had too hard of a ride. They also noted that the hatch suffered from ease of access, response from a standstill and a tight cabin. Minivan: Nissan Quest There aren’t many minivans left in this world, but the Nissan Quest is the one owners regret purchasing the most. Of the respondents, 54 percent said they’d purchase the Nissan Quest again with complaints ranging from cheap materials to Bluetooth friendliness. Owners also had a lot to say about poor visibility, complaints on the continuously variable transmission and poor service at Nissan dealership. It is also worth noting that the Quest received a Poor score on the IIHS small-overlap crash test. Not everything about the Quest is awful however, as some owners praised its comfort and spaciousness. Luxury Car: Mercedes-Benz CLA Mercedes-Benz’s entry-level offering might be too entry level for some. Only 55 percent of Mercedes-Benz CLA owners would purchase their vehicle again, saying that the German automaker made too many compromises to make the CLA affordable. Complaints include stiff suspension, compact size, general discomfort, rough and noisy ride and tires needing to be replaced too early. Perhaps the biggest complaint was that the CLA felt “too cheap” for a Mercedes-Benz model. Family Sedan: Nissan Altima From the pool of Nissan Altima owners, 58 percent said they’d purchase the sedan again. Complaints were varied on the Altima, with many owners complaining about the seats. Some praised their comfort while others noted that they were a true problem. Although Consumer Reports did mention that the discrepancy could be with the base seats compared to the upgraded ones with more adjustments. Other notable issues with the family sedan include handling complaints with owners adding that the vehicle is horrible and irritating to drive. The good news? Some were happy with the Altima’s fuel economy and ride comfort and the model did just get an overhaul for the 2016 model year. Pickup Truck: Nissan Frontier The Nissan Frontier is the longest-running model without a redesign in the pickup truck category, and perhaps its age is starting to show. Of those surveyed, 60 percent said they would purchase it again with owners frequently pointing their fingers at poor fuel economy and a wide turning radius. More interesting, owners did say that the Frontier was suitable for road trips. Overall Car: Kia Rio And the overall car that owners regret purchasing the most? The Kia Rio. Only 40 percent of current owners would purchase it again and the Kia Rio was the least satisfying car overall in the latest survey. While some owners thought the Rio was adequate for commuting, most had criticisms about its backseat, lack of cargo space and features. Owners also noted that the Rio’s mileage is overstated and the ride comfort is poor. The post 7 Cars Owners Regret Buying the Most appeared first on AutoGuide.com News. Lees het hele artikel
