  4. “If you like the Kia Soul and you are considering an electric vehicle, the Soul EV might just be the best choice on the market. 5. If you are searching for a high-performance vehicle, All-Wheel Drive (AWD), Four-Wheel Drive (4WD), Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) and Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) are the terms that you often come across. But what really are the differences between them and what do those differences mean? What is AWD? An AWD vehicle features a powertrain that employs a front, rear and center differential to provide power to all its wheels, providing a smooth drive and greater traction on off-road surfaces. It is a relatively recent innovation in the automotive industry and is usually reserved for premium cars and crossover models. AWD vehicles provide an enhanced level of safety and comfort for drivers as they automatically enable the vehicle to use all four wheels when encountering rugged road conditions without having to lift a finger. An AWD system basically combines the advantages of FWD and RWD. This means AWD adapts better in harsh road conditions and provides better balance & handling, making it a vehicle that is easy to handle, provides good traction and is safe in bad weather conditions. AWD vs. 4WD Although the two terms are often used interchangeably, AWD and 4WD are actually two different systems that yield different outcomes. Four-wheel drive vehicles lock both front and rear wheels together when 4WD mode is switched on. AWD systems, on the other hand, have a differential between the two drive shafts so that both wheels are not locked together but rather are able to spin at different speeds. A major difference between the two is that 4WD vehicles require the system to be manually switched on by the driver while AWD vehicles react to the road, weather and driving conditions as they happen. AWD might not be the perfect choice for full off-roading, but cars with an AWD system may be a better fit if you often drive in inclement weather that creates slippery, snowy and wet conditions. 10.

  12. The Soul was created from a single idea: to create a vehicle with the style and practicality of an SUV but with the versatility and riding comfort of a sedan. And since 2008, the Soul has opened a new chapter for vehicles, ushering in the concept of the ‘fashion car’. From the beginning, the crossover’s playful exterior combined with its practical and spacious interior had everyone talking. Further developed and enhanced throughout the years, the Kia Soul became one of Kia’s signature vehicles. Let’s take a look at the Soul’s history and find out exactly why the Soul is such a perfect fit for fueling up your summer. First-generation Soul (2008) The launch of the first generation Soul in 2008 broke the mold with a groundbreaking, one-of-a-kind design. Its dynamic reclining roofline and strong character lines, along with its five-star collision safety rating, eight-speaker stereo system and fashionable body colors set the gold standard for how modern compact crossovers should look. Soul’ster (2009) In another chapter of the evolving Soul saga, the Soul’ster concept car hinted at where the next generation Soul’s design was headed. Based on the first generation Soul platform, the Soul’ster was revealed the following year at the Detroit Motor Show. The design combined the original Soul with a roadster to suit those with young lifestyles who enjoy outdoor activities. The Soul’ster received some impressive accolades, including the 2009 concept truck of the year and the 2009 North American Concept Vehicle of the Year awards. With features such as the dual chrome exhausts, 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels and a prominent roll bar, anticipation for the next Soul was as high as ever! Refreshed Soul (2011) The refreshed Soul was released in 2011. With more power, the 1.6-liter GDi engine and six-speed automatic transmission improved performance and fuel efficiency. Along with its enhanced power, the exterior features included projection headlamps, LED signal lights, and bigger fog lamps. The tiger-nose grille and narrower tail lamps created an overall sleeker look for the refreshed Soul, making it the top-seller in its segment. Track’ster (2012) Even bolder and sportier, the Kia Track’ster concept car made its debut at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. With more voluminous curves and an oversized radiator grille, the Track’ster not only has a hard-to-ignore outer appearance, but it is also powered by a 2.0-liter turbo GDI engine and an electronically controlled 4WD system. Hinting at the next generation Soul, the Track’ster was described as the ultimate performance edition. Second generation Soul (2013) Following the sneak peek provided by the Track’ster, the second generation Soul was released in 2013 with an array of improvements while retaining the unique characteristics of the first generation vehicle. Compared to the original Soul’s softer and more ‘feminine’ appearance, the second generation was designed with bolder lines and finer details. The new Soul is the first Kia model with an optional contrasting color for the roof. Under the hood, the all-new Soul comes equipped with powertrain options such as a 1.6 GDI engine, 1.6 MPI engine and more. Advanced features include high beam assist, lane departure warning system and vehicle stability management. Such rigorous evolution in design and technology have enabled the Soul to receive the distinguished ‘red dot design award’ multiple times since 2009. Soul EV (2014) Just when people thought it couldn’t get any better, Kia surprised fans with the Soul EV. Released in 2014, the Soul urban crossover is Kia’s first-ever globally sold electric vehicle. With a fresher outer appearance and a powerful core, including an 81.4kW electric motor and high-capacity 27kWH lithium-ion polymer battery pack, the Soul EV definitely exceeded expectations with its style and long range! Find out more facts you didn’t know about the Kia Soul EV. Trail’ster (2015) Revealed at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, the Trail’ster concept car is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and hybrid powertrain, making it ready for any kind of adventure. What’s more, it comes with alluring features such as an open-air sky roof and advanced LED technology front fog lights. For more about this latest Soul-based concept car, check out the reveal of the Kia Trail’ster concept at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show. Beginning back in 2008, and all the way through to the current generation, the Soul has proved to be an undeniable crowd pleaser with its unique design and practical capabilities. Crossovers in particular are getting more and more popular thanks to their combination of SUV power with the ride comfort of a sedan. In this highly competitive segment, the Kia Sportage has been one of the most compelling CUV models and is one of Kia Motors’ global bestsellers, second only to the B-Segment Rio. Today, we explore the evolution of Kia’s flagship CUV and how it strikes the perfect balance between the capabilities of an SUV and the comfort of a sedan car. 22. The 2017 Hyundai Equus and Kia K900 luxury sedans have been spied testing. While the Kia K900 is getting a simple refresh, likely with just new front and rear bumpers, the new Equus is expected to be heavily inspired by the 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan. In fact, it appears by these spy photos that the new Equus carries a bit of a German design to its aesthetics, which is no surprise considering Hyundai is targeting BMW, Mercedes and Audi. The luxury sedan will ride on a heavily updated version of the BH platform with high strength steel and aluminum helping to significantly drop the curb weight of the Equus. SEE ALSO: 2015 Kia K900 Review As for powerplants, an updated 5.0-liter V8 will provide additional performance and better fuel economy although it is rumored that a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 is also in the works. If the new engine does find its way to the Equus, expect it to launch around 2019 when it receives a mid-cycle refresh. The model will likely initially launch with an eight-speed automatic transmission, although a 10-speed unit is expected to be incorporated in the future. Production on the new Hyundai Equus should begin December 2015 or early next year. The Korean automaker has promised to debut a new car debut at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which will likely be the brand new Equus.
