Two separate recalls have been issued by Hyundai, affecting 259,000 vehicles from various models in the Korean automaker’s lineup. The first recall affects 2006-2010 model year Sonatas and 2006-2011 model year Azeras, where a rear-cross member could rust possibly causing handling problems. In total, 215,000 Sonatas and 24,000 Azeras are affected by the recall. The second recall affects the 2013 front-wheel-drive Santa Fe Sport equipped with the 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine. According to Hyundai, the front-axle shaft might break due to being improperly manufactured. The Sonata and Azera recall is a geographic recall and only affects vehicles in various states that rely on road salt during the winter. The Kia Sorento, which is a sibling of the Santa Fe, is also affected by the recall with 9,300 2014 Sorentos experiencing the same issue. The Kia Sedona has had a strange last couple of years, first being axed and then resurfacing as a 2014 model year with subtle changes to its exterior. The Korean automaker, however, has no plans of leaving the minivan market, and now AutoGuide‘s spy photographers have caught the 2015 Sedona hot weather testing. The 2015 Sedona will be getting a major makeover and is expected to launch in fall 2014. SEE ALSO: Kia Soul EV Expected in Late 2014, Early 2015 By the time the new Sedona is introduced, the current model will have been on the market for eight years, making it the last model to receive Kia’s new design language by Peter Schreyer. This new look should help it compete with a new wave of minivans like the Toyota Sienna, which have put a focus on style and premium amenities. Playful but gutsy, sturdy yet impish – Kia’s dramatic new European concept to be unveiled at the IAA in Frankfurt on 10 September hints at a possible future B-segment contender ready to take on the urban environment with style and tenacity. Accepting any challenge that the assured modern motorist may throw at it, this concept car combines a mischievous character in a clearly robust and substantial yet stylish bodyshape featuring a mix of contrasting materials in compact, purposeful dimensions. Born out of Kia’s determination to seek new compact-car options for the individualistic and demanding driver for whom size is an issue, the concept features intriguing elements not always associated with smaller cars and has been created in Europe with European tastes and expectations very much in mind. Although there are no current plans for production the vehicle’s unveiling in Frankfurt will be used to gauge potential customer response for future showroom models. Kia has made some major changes to its model lineup over the last couple of years, launching the Cadenza sedan, a redesigned Forte, and refreshed Optima, but that’s just the beginning for the Korean automaker. Scheduled to arrive later this year is the redesigned two-door Forte Koup and five-door hatchback variants while the second-generation Kia Soul will be arriving this fall. The 2014 Soul will be longer and wider than the current model, giving it a new look while retaining its boxy proportions. As for the Soul EV, it will launch in late 2014, early 2015 though very little details have been revealed on the model. It is believed that the Soul EV will be comparable to the Nissan Leaf in terms of range and price. SEE ALSO: Electric Kia Soul Prototype Spied Testing in Europe As for the rest of the automaker’s lineup, the Optima will be redesigned for the 2016 model year while the Rio will see a minor refresh in the summer of 2015. The Quoris will likely be released in America, though a definite launch period has yet to be determined. According to sources, the Korean automaker is watching to see how the Cadenza does in the U.S. market before determining when and if the Quoris will be released. The Sorento won’t see major changes until the 2016 model year while the Sportage’s update is even further out, not coming until 2017. Meanwhile, Kia will give the Sportage a minor refresh this fall with changes to the headlights and taillights along with an updated grille. The Sedona has been a strange model for Kia, which abruptly disappeared and then reappeared with minor changes. A redesigned model is expected to launch in fall of 2014 with major changes. Finally, Automotive News reports that a production variant of the GT Concept is still on the table, but isn’t close to getting green lit. Kia still isn’t sold on the idea of producing a rear-wheel-drive sports car for the market. Few automakers would refer to their products as “impish” which gives a clear indication that Kia’s new small car concept is anything but normal. In a press release that describes the design study as, “playful but gutsy, sturdy yet impish,” Kia is clear to point out that it is exploring, but not yet committed to, the possibility of adding a new and very small car to its lineup. As expected with modern Kias, design will play a major role with the car created to, “take on the urban environment with style and tenacity.” SEE ALSO: Top 10 Cheapest Hatchbacks “Born out of Kia’s determination to seek new compact-car options for the individualistic and demanding driver for whom size is an issue, the concept features intriguing elements not always associated with smaller cars and has been created in Europe with European tastes and expectations very much in mind,” reads a release on the concept. Stating that production will depend on reception after its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, the ‘impish’ concept could head to production quickly as it’s likely the car’s underpinnings already exist. After all, parent company Hyundai already offers the b-segment i20 in Europe, which sits a size below the Accent. Look for more on Kia’s new concept car int he lead-up to the Frankfurt Motor Show, which starts September 10th.
