Kia Motors ignited the 2013 Chicago Auto Show when the all-new, ultra-hot Forte (Cerato in some markets) 5-door rolled on-stage. The all-new Forte 5-door SX’s eye-catching European-inspired hatchback design is complimented by an all-new 1.6-liter gasoline direct-injected (GDI) turbocharged four-cylinder engine putting out 201 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque, making the all-new Forte 5-door SX the most powerful Forte from Kia Motors to date. The Forte 5-door is expected to go on sale in the third quarter of 2013, and pricing will be announced closer to launch. Presented in two trim levels, EX and SX, with two distinct engine choices, the Forte 5-door will offer customers Kia’s long list of premium amenities and features not normally found in the compact segment. Under the hood, the Forte 5-door packs a punch, with the EX’s 2.0-liter GDI four-cylinder engine putting out a healthy 173 horsepower and 154 lb.-ft. of torque through a 6-speed automatic transmission. The performance-oriented SX comes standard with the hard-charging 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder, a first for the Forte line. The SX also offers buyers the chance to pick their own gears with a standard 6-speed manual transmission, or they may opt for the 6-speed automatic featuring steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Standard features and technology take value to new levels of sophistication Carrying on Kia’s reputation of offering tremendous value, the all-new Forte 5-door offers buyers an impressive allotment of technology and safety features. The base EX comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, UVO eServices with rear camera display , Bluetooth® wireless technology, SiriusXM™ Satellite Radio , leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio and cruise control buttons, FlexSteer™, tilt and telescoping steering column, power windows, and LED positioning headlights with fog lights. The SX trim ups the ante with standard 18-inch alloy wheels, dual chrome exhaust tips, and LED tail lights. Forte 5-door SX also offers an aggressive front fascia with larger bumper and grille openings, black gloss grille inserts, larger front brakes, alloy sport pedals, front and rear seats with carbon fiber-style accents. The lower front fascia and rear valance also feature carbon fiber-look trim pieces. Additionally, both EX and SX trim levels offer optional HID headlights, navigation system with HD Radio™ , sunroof, heated steering wheel,10-way adjustable power driver’s seat, heated front seats and cooled driver’s seat, heated rear outboard seats, leather seating surfaces, SmartKey with push-button start, electric chromatic rearview mirror and dual-zone automatic climate control. Stunning European design language Born from the Kia design studio in Seoul and overseen by Kia’s global chief of design, Peter Schreyer, the Forte 5-door’s sophisticated hatchback profile, large wheels and aggressive posture give it a distinctly European appearance that speaks to its performance intentions. The chiseled body commands attention and continues Kia’s tradition as a design leader in the industry. Like its Forte sedan counterpart, the Forte 5-door’s swept headlights stretch deep into the front fenders and the raked windshield and broad shoulders give the front end a sleek, sporty appearance. LED positioning lights add a premium look to the front fascia. Moving around the vehicle, the large 18-inch wheels fill the wheel wells on the SX, and the hatchback profile affords a performance-oriented European personality. Around back, the rear hatch glass opens to reveal 23.2 cubic feet of usable cargo space. LED tail lights complete the premium feel of the exterior and a sporty rear valance with twin chrome exhaust tips maintains the Forte 5-door’s edgy demeanor. Sporty cabin with premium features Inside, the Forte 5-door features premium materials and soft touch points. Large, easy-to-read white-on-black gauges nestle deeply into the instrument cluster. Chrome accents around the HVAC controls and optional push-button start, along with carbon fiber-like textures on the dash and seats, add a sporty touch. A grippy leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob are further evidence of the Forte 5-door’s performance aspirations. Class-exclusive available features such as front and rear heated outboard seats, an air-cooled driver’s seat and driver-selectable electric steering further set the Forte 5-door apart from its competition. Thrilling driving experience The Forte 5-door SX is the most powerful Forte built by Kia to date, utilizing a 1.6-liter GDI turbocharged four-cylinder that help improve performance. Power is seamlessly transferred to the front wheels via a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The GDI powerplant produces 201 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 195 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,750-4,500 rpm. The advanced powertrain features double overhead cams with dual continuously variable valve timing to help improve efficiency and performance. The Forte 5-door EX comes standard with a 2.0-liter GDI powerplant producing 173 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 154 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,700 rpm. During durability testing, the engines are run 300 continuous hours at redline under full load then for an additional 20 hours at 10 percent above redline under full load. To help further improve performance, the Forte 5-door features a sport-tuned suspension with a McPherson strut setup in front and a multilink rear design. The Forte 5-door rides on standard 205/55R-16 tires while 225/40R-18 tires are included with the SX trim for an even more sporting driving experience. 2014 Kia Forte 5-Door Offers 201-HP Turbo Engine
Kiaclub Nieuwsrobot plaatste een topic in Kianieuws van Autoguide.com
Kia just revealed its brand-new Forte 5-Door at the Chicago Auto Show today, including a potent 201 hp turbocharged version. The SX model is powered by spunky little 1.6-liter engine. That may sound like a pretty small powerplant for a C-Segment hatchback, but fear not; it’s loaded with goodies. Those add-ons include a turbocharger, direct fuel injection and variable valve timing. Looking at the bottom line it squeezes out 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough beans to make it the most powerful Forte ever offered by Kia. Those numbers are a welcome boost over the base car’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The EX version of the Forte 5-Door delivers 173 horsepower with a plebian 154 lb-ft of torque. VIEW COMPLETE 2013 CHICAGO AUTO SHOW COVERAGE Back to the SX. It comes standard with sporty-looking 18-inch alloy wheels and dual chrome-plated exhaust tips that hint at the performance lurking behind its redesigned “tiger-nose grille.” The car also has larger front brakes and restyled fascias. The interior is loaded with features as well. A navigation system with HD radio is optional, as is a sun roof, heated steering wheel and 10-way power driver’s seat. Pricing for the Forte 5-Door has not been announced at this time; Kia will release that information closer to launch, which again should be this fall. With the reveal of a third new vehicle at the Chicago Auto Show today, Kia is firmly planting its flag in the Midwestern city. The 2013 Cross GT concept is a look into the future at a possible rear-wheel drive luxury crossover. As its name implies, this vehicle is based on the GT concept that debuted in 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. According to Kia’s press release, it’s meant to blur the lines between a gran turismo and a luxury crossover. As with many concept vehicles these days, the Cross GT features a hybrid drivetrain. At the heart of the system is a familiar 3.8-liter V6 and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Beyond that combination, Kia engineers sandwiched an electric motor between the engine and gearbox. All told this “parallel hybrid” powertrain delivers 400 horsepower with an earth-shattering 500 lb-ft of torque. Supposedly it can also deliver 20 miles of all-electric driving. VIEW COMPLETE 2013 CHICAGO AUTO SHOW COVERAGE The Cross GT concept is rear-wheel-drive biased but it also features torque-vectoring all-wheel drive, perfect for slippery auto-show situations like driving on low-pile carpeting or parking on a turntable. The car was penned at Kia’s design center in Irvine Calif.; The same studio that gave birth to the Track’ster, KV7 and Soul’ster concepts, to name a few. Its predecessor, the GT, was designed in Germany. And if you’re wondering, that color is called “Fusion Copper.” For a little perspective, the Cross GT’s wheelbase is a lanky 122 inches. That stretches almost 16 inches past the Kia Sorento. This concept is also about 5 inches wider and 8 inches longer than the Sorento. Suicide doors are slowly making a comeback, on concept cars at least, and the Cross GT prominently features them. These “rear-hinged” portals in modern parlance open wide for easy access to the second-row bucket seats and offer an unobstructed view of its snazzy interior. A multi-panel glass roof allows light to pour into the interior for an even more spacious feel. In keeping with this hybrid’s earth-friendly demeanor, its seating surfaces are clad in leather that was tanned using vegetable oil and colored with natural dyes. Supposedly they were inspired by fine equestrian saddles. Reclaimed American walnut wood trim also adds to the premium look to the Cross GT’s cabin. Will this stylish, brightly colored crossover ever make it into production? For now Kia is playing it cool, calling it a possible design direction they may explore in the future. 2014 Kia Forte 5-Door Blows into Windy City
Kiaclub Nieuwsrobot plaatste een topic in Kianieuws van Autoguide.com
Keeping pace with Hyundai, Kia unveiled its latest production car today: the 2013 Forte 5-Door. Like it or not Kia is a brand that’s going places. Last year the South Korean automaker’s U.S. sales topped half a million units for the first time ever. To continue that explosive growth they have to keep pushing, and one of the products that will carry them into the future is a stylish hatchback that was just revealed at the Chicago Auto Show this morning. The 2014 Forte 5-Door is a logical extension of the brand’s C-Segment nameplate. Late last year they unveiled the redesigned sedan-version of the car at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Now the company is showing hatchback enthusiasts some love. Kia calls the car “ultra hot” and it’s certainly a looker with “European style,” but as always you can judge for yourself. The new Forte 5-Door will be offered in two trim levels: run-of-the-mill EX and sporty SX. The standard car (read: EX) is powered by a 2.0-liter direct-injection gasoline engine. It delivers an impressive 173 horsepower with 154 lb-ft of torque. Despite its sporty styling it is only offered with a six-speed automatic transmission. If you want three pedals and an H-pattern shifter you’ll have to step up to the SX version. VIEW COMPLETE 2013 CHICAGO AUTO SHOW COVERAGE This sporty trim gets a host of enhancements, most importantly what’s behind its unmistakably Kia grille. Pop the hood and you’ll find a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It delivers a 201 horsepower roundhouse kick with 195 lb-ft of karate-choppin’ torque. That’s enough output to make this the most powerful Forte ever built by Kia. Drivers can choose between either a manual or automatic transmission; both offer six forward speeds. Other niceties abound. SX cars feature standard 18-inch wheels, chrome-plated dual exhaust tips and LED tail lamps. The front and rear ends are also slightly different and they benefit from bigger brakes to help reign-in the extra power. High-intensity-discharge (HID) headlamps are available on both models as is an optional navigation system with HD Radio. Other big-car touches include a 10-way power driver’s seat and heated front buckets, both of which are available at extra cost. If you’re in the market for a stylish and feature-laden hatchback you can look for the Forte 5-door at Kia stores in the third quarter of 2013. Swooping in to save the world from evil, or at least this week’s Chicago Auto Show from boredom, Kia’s Superman-inspired Optima Hybrid is an interesting concept car to say the least. This car is the result of an ongoing collaboration between the automaker, Super Street magazine and DC Entertainment. It’s part of a 10-month, eight-vehicle partnership that’s highlighting the famous “Justice League” super heroes. In case you’re wondering, that illustrious group includes Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg and of course, Superman. An eighth vehicle will be the final in this “super” series and will be an amalgamation of all the Justice League characters. VIEW COMPLETE 2013 CHICAGO AUTO SHOW COVERAGE As for this car, it’s not your standard Kia Optima Hybrid. It’s been widened with special fenders, which give it a mean look. It also features an adjustable suspension system that can rise up and drop down with the push of a button, plus it has a giant Superman logo on the hood. The look will certainly grab attention in traffic, but don’t think designers forgot about the interior. It’s spruced up with some “man of steel” upgrades as well. The car’s front seats and steering wheel are emblazoned with the famous “S” shield. The cooperation between Kia, Super Street and DC Entertainment is a joint effort between them to raise awareness of the “We Can Be Heroes” giving campaign, which is a relief effort to help people affected by famine and drought in the Horn of Africa. All together it makes for a strange series of concept cars, but at least they’re benefiting a good cause. As a late comer to the Super Bowl pre-release party, Kia just released a new spot for the 2014 Forte entitled “HotBots,” which explores what would happen if auto show models were actually androids. Getting greasy fingerprints all over a shiny new car at an auto show is definitely frowned upon, and Kia takes matters into its own hands in the commercial. The ad has the tagline “respect the tech” tacked on at the end, seemingly to show off that Kia is a company focused on cutting-edge new car tech. The commercial is expected to air during the Super Bowl, this coming Sunday. Get the Flash Player to see this player. Lees het hele artikel

As expected, Kia has revealed its “Space Babies” Super Bowl commercial ahead of the big game, and it’s every bit as strange as we anticipated. Last year, the Korean automaker made headlines by having the beautiful Adriana Lima in its Super Bowl spot, but this year the focus is on the redesigned Sorento. That meant that a more conservative approach had to be taken, but no one could have expected this. SEE ALSO: Kia Teases ‘Space Babies’ Super Bowl Commercial – Video In answering the age old question of, “Where do babies come from?”, a normal dad begins conjuring up an insane story to tell his son while driving around the neighborhood in the family’s Sorento. Of course, appealing to the traditional family was the goal for Kia and its Sorento SUV, so perhaps this commercial will grab the attention the automaker hopes for.
