    KMS-4

High-Performance Sports Coupe The beautiful sporty looking car that combined the front mask like Italian classic sculptures and stream-lined silhouette in side-view. NEW YORK - In an auto show full of production cars and "world debuts" of new trim levels, Kia provided a refreshing break from the monotonous parade of cars that money can actually buy. Called the KMS-4, the Kia concept coupe is tantalizing in its potential. Interestingly, Kia bills the KMS-4 as an economy car. Roughly the size of a Mitsubishi Eclipse, the coupe comes with a not-so-outlandish, 2.0-liter, DOHC four-cylinder engine. The engine develops 151 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 114 foot-pounds of torque at 4500 rpm. With a curb weight of less than 2,000 pounds, performance might be impressive. Sticking to the econo-car theme, the KMS-4 even comes with low-cost drum brakes for the rear wheels. A few concept-car features keep the KMS-4 a fantasy. With an all-glass roof, Kia gives new meaning to the term "greenhouse." How to bring this car to production? Replace the glass roof with traditional steel, lose the costly Ferrari-like paddle shift levers and GPS navigation system, and you’ve got a surprisingly attainable car. If parent company Hyundai has any plans to expand the Kia brand, the KMS-4 is the perfect move. Futuristic styling, compact engine for good fuel economy, four-wheel independent suspension for sporty handling: all qualities that would make the KMS-4 sell. Direct competition for the Hyundai Tiburon is the reason it won’t.

    Genesis

Kia’s future minivan concept is the Genesis, which was given an FUV (Family Utility Vehicle) acronym. The vehicle features a pair of huge power-operated gull-wing doors for both front- and rear-seat occupants, six of whom may be accommodated in comfort. Among Kia’s novel ideas incorporated in the vehicle is an "air jet wiper." Multiple nozzles installed in the base of the windshield blow away raindrops with powerful bursts of pressurized air. The Genesis is propelled by a 3.5-L V6 and electronically controlled five-speed automatic transmission provided by the company’s parent, Hyundai. The vehicle measures 4778 mm (188 in) long and has a mass of 1650 kg (3640 lb).

    KCD-2

Developed by Kia’s European design centre, the new KCV-II showcases the direction that Kia is heading in terms of styling and technology, the company said in a statement. Aimed at youthful car owners with an active lifestyle, the Kia KCV-II matches a flexible seating system and open pick-up load bay to a chassis capable of road car handling and light, or soft off-roading. "The KCV-II is really a fun car to go out with your friends to have fun and enjoy the sun. It’s aimed at drivers who want the practicality and command driving position of a sports utility, but want their car to drive like a car while being an affordable package," said designer Carlos Arroyo. Arroyo’s concept was picked from an in-house competition held amongst staff at Kia’s European design studio in Frankfurt, Germany. A multinational team of designers under Jay Baek, chief of the design centre, and Peter Arcardipane, chief designer, pushed the concept to reality. Powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine mated to full-time four-wheel drive, Kia’s innovative sport utility is underpinned by an all-new platform, code-named KM. This is a unitary-construction platform with flexible body architecture capable of supporting a number of bodystyles, from a conventional sports-utility vehicle to a lifestyle variant, like the KCV-II. The KCV-II also introduces a significant number of technical innovations that will be expected to be seen on future Kia hatchback, sedan and sport utility models. These include safety features like advanced airbags, tire pressure warning sensors, active headrests and emergency brake assist. Other technical features new to Kia include keyless entry, photochromatic glass and an integrated satellite navigation system with MP3 download software and in/out jacks for additional audio equipment.
