Previewing the upcoming Optima wagon, the Korean automaker debuted the Sportspace concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and was quick to confirm that it’s heading to production. Besides the premiere of SPORTSPACE, the stunning new Kia concept vehicle, another spotlight was shone on the new cee’d GT Line during the 85th Salon International de l’Automobile in Geneva (Geneva International Motor Show). The new cee’d GT Line is equipped with the all-new downsized 1.0-litre T-GDI engine as well as new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in Europe. The GT Line specification is available on all three cee’d body types – the five-door cee’d, three-door pro_cee’d and cee’d Sportswagon. The all-new 1.0-litre T-GDI ‘Kappa’ engine was also unveiled for the first time, marking yet another evolution of the Kia engine, which performs at high efficiency with smaller capacity. The new Kia cee’d 5-Door GT Line The sporty looking new cee’d GT Line The new cee’d GT Line illustrates the evolution of the cee’d GT design language. Ice-cube LED and deeper bumpers surrounding the tiger-nose grille make the vehicle immediately stand out. The rear of the car varies depending on the body type. The wider GT bumper and twin exhausts are furnished on the cee’d hatchback and pro_cee’d, while dual exhaust and rear diffuser are featured on the Sportswagon model. All GT Line models are fitted standard with eye-catching side sill moldings, rear LED light units, and a stylish new 17-inch alloy wheel design. The new cee’d GT Line The new cee’d GT Line Sportswagon The new 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder ‘Kappa’ engine Kia’s all-new 1.0-liter T-GDI (turbo gasoline direct injection) ‘Kappa’ engine made its world production debut at the show. Developed in-house at Namyang R&D center, the new 1.0-liter T-GDI engine has been engineered to provide immediate engine response and lower CO2 emissions, with 120 ps and 172 Nm torque and a 10 to 15% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to the current 1.6-liter GDI engine. European customers will see the new cee’d GT Line fitted with the new engine in later 2015. The new engine will be adopted on a range of other Kia models in future. The new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission In addition to the new engine, Kia’s all-new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) has been applied to the new cee’d GT Line. This innovative transmission enables greater torque output and faster gear changes than the existing six-speed torque converter automatic. By minimizing the loss of torque and forward motion by the powertrain during gear shifts, drivers can enjoy more decisive acceleration and a smoother drive. Also developed at the Namyang Korea R&D center, the new seven-speed DCT is anticipated to increase fuel efficiency by 5 to 7%. The Kia Sportspace concept will head to production within the next 18 months. After making its worldwide debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, a spokesman for the Korean automaker confirmed to Top Gear that the concept will head to production as the Optima wagon. In addition, the CEO of Kia Motors Europe, Michael Cole, admitted that the company wants to “enter segments that we’re not in to support our growth,” and wagons sell particularly well in Europe. The European market will likely get to enjoy a performance version of the Optima wagon in the future as well the Korean automaker said. Those hoping to see the GT4 Stinger concept head to production will have to wait a bit longer. From the world premiere of the SPORTSPACE concept to the new cee’d GT Line, the latest powertrain technologies, and the European debut of the enhanced Picanto, Kia has the full package ready for the show. Here we bring you a first look at the new Kia SPORTSPACE concept unveiled during the Geneva Motor Show press conference. The new Kia SPORTSPACE Concept – Simple yet dynamic The new Kia SPORTSPACE concept is the ultimate getaway vehicle, offering drivers both style and practicality. Designed at Kia’s Frankfurt design studio under the direction of Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer Europe, the SPORTSPACE features a sporty wagon body shape and an airy four-seat interior. It is powered by Kia’s latest diesel-electric T-Hybrid system, which enables spontaneous acceleration with low emissions. “Behind the sophisticated design, the Kia SPORTSPACE also delivers a drive that is easy and enthusiastic. It will make every work-day commute or dash to the mountains equally invigorating,” Guillaume said about his latest work. Exterior Design The SPORTSPACE presents an architectural silhouette in an ‘Ignition Red’ color that is distinctively different from traditional vehicles. Guillaume characterizes the SPORTSPACE as muscular and athletic, saying “The normal wagon treatment would include a long third window to suggest and show the luggage carrying capacity. But by applying a strong D-pillar treatment and a much more swept back rear hatch, we have given the back of the car a strong character.” The front of the vehicle is embellished with Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille and a powerful satin aluminium strip above the LED headlights. Interior Design The spacious cabin is designed to be as light as possible to maximize functionality. Designed with a combination of leather, carbon fibre and anodised aluminium, the SPORTSPACE boasts luxurious yet modern interior. Do you love wagons? I love wagons, and the Kia Sportspace concept is a perfect example of why. This is the latest design to come from Kia’s European design studio in Frankfurt and – presumably ­– a preview of the next-generation Optima. And if this is any indication of how the next Optima is going to look, the future is bright. Hallmark design elements from the brand like the tiger nose grille are intact, but the Sportspace takes the trendy look Kia already has going and makes it even more attractive. 2015 Geneva Motor Show Coverage Bear in mind that this is a concept car that Kia designed for Europe, so it probably isn’t an indication that there will be a wagon version of the Optima for North America in the future, but something like that could certainly help its popularity on this side of the planet. If you love the exterior, wait until you see the inside where there are a duo of large screens reminiscent of the current Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Further emphasizing that this is more of a production preview than a design study, it has a 2.0-liter direct-injected gasoline four-cylinder engine that sends 250 metric horsepower to the front wheels. The next-generation Kia Optima is being previewed in the new Sportspace Concept, set to be revealed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Kia designed the Sportspace to bring new sexy style to the European wagon segment with its aggressive face and sloping angles. Power comes from the Korean brand’s diesel-electric T-Hybrid system which includes a 1.7-liter diesel that is now twin charged, with a conventional turbo that is supported by an electric booster. Kia says the booster helps produce torque at low speeds. An active multi-link rear axle is also used on this concept to allow temporary all-wheel drive. Power to all four wheels will be necessary when heading to the ski slopes, something the Sportspace is designed to do. Skis can be stored between the rear seats, using the arm rest as a ski rest. A clamp that holds a tablet at eye level is also fitted in to the back of the front seats. There are 28 roller balls that help with sliding things into the back, all of which retract when the car is started to make sure your luggage doesn’t slide around. Leather, carbon fiber and anodized aluminum are found throughout the interior, which also features some new high-tech goodies. A new highly-configurable digital gauge cluster is found in front of the driver, while a rear view camera replaces the conventional mirror. Even if Kia does offer a wagon version of the Optima for Europe, we aren’t likely to get the wagon in the U.S. Even so, most of the styling cues will probably carry over from the European production model to North America. Kia will recall the 2016 Sorento crossover only a few weeks after reaching the market to address a defect with the accelerator. Documents filed with the National Transportation Safety Administration show that Kia intends to recall 12,361 copies of the CUV that were manufactured between October 27, 2014, and January 29, 2015. According to the documents, vehicles included in the recall might have been manufactured with an improperly soldered component in the accelerator pedal assembly. Kia estimates that one percent of the total pool it included in the recall will be affected by the improperly soldered component. Those vehicles could unexpectedly enter a limp mode that will still allow the car to drive, but at a limited speed. Owners can expect to begin receiving notification from Kia this month if they own an affected vehicle. The redesigned Kia Optima is expected to make its debut in early April. According to a report from Edmunds, the Korean automaker will debut the 2016 Kia Optima at the upcoming New York Auto Show ahead of the sedan arriving in dealerships later this year. The Optima is Kia’s number-one selling vehicle in the U.S. and an insider says the new Optima will have all new sheet metal though the overall appearance will be familiar and evolutionary. Thanks to advanced turbocharging technologies, three-cylinder engines are becoming more popular among automakers. Kia is the latest to join the fray, announcing its 1.0 T-GDi Kappa engine, a turbocharged three-cylinder with 118 hp and 127 lb-ft of torque. To help improve efficiency, the 1.0-liter engine uses a single-scroll turbo with an electrically-operated wastegate and has a relatively flat torque curve with maximum twist coming in at just 1,500 RPMs and staying consistent to 4,100 RPMs. Getting technical, the new powerplant features laser-drilled injectors with six holes each, which are laid out in a pyramid configuration to allow a more even spread through each cylinder. There are also two thermostats in the engine, allowing the block and head to be cooled separately, with the block’s thermostat running at 221 degrees and the head’s at a cooler 190 degrees to avoid detonation. Though there’s no timeline on when it’ll arrive in the U.S., it is expected to find its way into numerous models including the Rio, Forte and Soul. Don’t be surprised if Hyundai also uses the powerplant in its Accent and Elantra models. At the Geneva Motor Show, Kia will also show off a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for the Cee’d GT diesel model, the same transmission found in the Hyundai Sonata Eco in the U.S. That transmission is also heading to the Hyundai Veloster Turbo. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has named the 2016 Kia Sorento a Top Safety Pick. Redesigned for 2016, the Sorento earned top honors thanks to its improved performance in the small overlap crash test, taking its rating from poor to good. Information taken from the crash test dummy indicates a low risk of injury in this type of small overlap collision, unlike the previous Sorento which showed a high likelihood of serious injury. (Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe) Teen Pro-Active Driving School as the official vehicle and presenting sponsor. While driving brings a great deal of enjoyment and convenience, for young novice drivers, one errant turn could be fatal. Together with B.R..A.K.E.S., Kia is offering free lifesaving training with hands-on driving exercises to teens and their parents across the country. B.R.A.K.E.S. is a non-profit organization on a mission to train and educate teenage drivers, and their parents, about the importance of responsible and safe driving. Doug Herbert, the founder of the organization, was a NHRA drag racing star who lost two sons in a tragic car crash in 2008. Sadly, car accidents are the leading cause of death for teens in the U.S.., and he decided to help put an end to needless fatalities by providing free driver education. During the four-hour session, students gain hands-on experiences in accident avoidance, distracted driving, drop wheel recovery, and panic stops. Parents accompanied their children throughout the session to ensure continued care and attention is paid to their children’s driving habits. Having parents who set driving rules and monitor their children’s activities has been shown to decrease the accident rate or unsafe driving by teens. “Kia joined forces with B.R.A.K.E.S. more than a year ago because we believe in Doug Herbert and the organization, and we support their mission to save lives through driver education,” said Michael Sprague, executive vice president of sales and marketing, Kia Motors America. “We’ve supplied the school with a fleet of new Kia vehicles, and we’re expanding our commitment to help scale up this valuable effort. Kia’s Europe-only Cee’d small car has been spied once again. The revised Sport Wagon version has been spotted undergoing testing. This revised model is expected to sport exterior and interior changes plus engine upgrades. Currently the Sport Wagon model offers a wide array of powertrains, from a petite 1.4-liter gasoline engine to a torque-rich diesel to a range-topping unit with up to 126 bhp. Drivers can choose between either a manual or automatic transmission, both have six forward speeds. Kia’s first all-electric zero emissions vehicle for global markets, Soul EV, has been named the Best Eco-Friendly Vehicle at the MotorWeek’s 34th annual Drivers’ Choice Awards. Each year MotorWeek produces a list of winners for different car categories after analyzing industry trends, new products, and technologies, to provide car buyers with a reliable source of information. MotorWeek editors noticed the Soul EV’s roomy interior and cargo space, on top of its best-in-class range, in picking it as the best eco-friendly vehicle. Motorweek’s host and executive producer John Davis commented on Soul EV’s practicality and style, stating that “it has more power and range compared to other affordable all-electric vehicles. Plus, its funky style makes driving the Kia Soul EV really cool.” While retaining the iconic design of its gasoline-powered sibling, the Soul EV is offered in four color choices and with premium amenities such as navigation with an eight-inch touchscreen and a 6.6kW on-board charger. This award is a tremendous honor, coming as it did from such a respected source. Is the Kia Soul really off-road capable? The Korean automaker is testing the idea with its Trail’ster concept at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, adding an extra 2.5 inches of ground clearance to the boxy, compact car. Under the body are aluminum skid plates for protection while Pirelli Winter Carving tires has this all-wheel drive Soul driving on snow and mud with ease. 2015 Chicago Auto Show Coverage Under the hood is a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with 185 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque that sends power to the front wheels while an electric motor is used to power the rear wheels under acceleration while adding regenerative braking capabilities. Combined, the total system output for the hybrid powertrain is 220 hp and 285 lb-ft of torque. Another interesting aspect of the Kia Trail’ster concept is its retractable cloth panel on its roof, offering some of the characteristics you’d expect from a convertible. Zou toch ook even hogerop kijken , kleppendekselpakking of iets wat hoger zit , voordat je klakkeloos de boel los haalt , olie loopt nu eenmaal naar beneden.weekje wachten lijkt me geen probleem , of het moet er met stralen uit lopen.Er rijden auto s rond met dezelfde klacht die al jaren doorrijden zonder problemen , buiten het feit natuurlijk dat de stoep de onder kant van de auto zo vet is als maar kan , dat is ook een keus.
