Kia is the latest automaker to put an all-electric vehicle up for sale, with the new 2015 Soul EV receiving a $33,700 base price tag not including destination charges. The car will be available in two different trims, with the upper-level Soul Plus selling for $35,700. Both prices do not include a $7,500 federal tax credit that buyers receive for purchasing an EV. Those interested in leasing the car can do so for $249 per month for 36 months with $1,999 due at signing. Both models of the Soul EV carry an estimated range of 93 miles on a single charge and make 109 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque. The car plugs in via a hidden port in the grille and takes up to 24 hours to charge if fully depleted and plugged in to a standard 120-volt outlet. From a 240-volt outlet, that time falls to as little as five hours. Kia also said the car can recoup up to 80 percent of its charge in 33 minutes if plugged into a 50kW-output charger. Thanks to UVO, customers can connect to their car via a cell phone app which allows them to set charging time, charging levels and the temperature inside the car. Jump up the Soul EV Plus, and buyers get leather-trimmed heated and cooled seats, projection-style foglamps and power-folding mirrors. Initially, the car will be sold in the stereotypical electric car markets: California, Oregon as well as several across the east coast including New York New Jersey and Maryland. After that, the company says it might offer the car in more parts of the U.S. as charging infrastructure and demand grow. Heb in december 2013 een nieuwe picanto gekocht.Heb bij 7000km problemen met het overschakelen gekregen, en volgens de dealer en een man van kia is dit een producteigenschap en doen ze er verder niets aan.Het probleem: Bij het overschakelen hoor je een klonk en voelt het net of er speling zit in de aandrijfas.Dealer geeft aan dat het in de versnellingsbak zit, en dat ze dat allemaal hebben.Volgend probleem:Hij gaat vaak niet in z'n achteruit, pas na nogmaals de koppeling in te trappen gaat hij dan in z'n achteruit. Interested in keeping the environment clean? Or how about saving some extra cash? Here are five green driving tips you can follow to do your part and save some money at the same time. Lighten Your Load The weight of the things you carry around in your car may seem trivial, but they’re not. Extra weight in the car means more energy consumption. The easiest thing you can do to increase fuel efficiency is removing items you don’t need from your car such as all those things in your trunk that you never use. It may be convenient to have them on hand, but it is costing you money to haul them around. This is especially true for small car owners; cleaning up the junk in your trunk can really make a difference. According to the official U.S. government source for fuel economy information, you can improve your MPG by up to 2 percent for every 100 pounds you unload. Take Care of Your Tires Tires are also important when it comes to fuel economy. Underinflated tires are not only dangerous but they also negatively affect fuel efficiency. Properly inflated tires will have less friction on the road, reducing the energy required to run the engine. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), maintaining tire pressure at the automaker’s recommended level can improve gas mileage by up to 6 percent. So be sure to check your tires at least once a month or before going on a long trip. Be Gentle on the Road If you are a smooth driver, then you are on the right track to becoming a green driver. Abrupt acceleration and braking not only deplete fuel efficiency by 33 percent, but such driving habits also result in excessive amounts of pollutants. Research shows that 1 second of jamming the accelerator produces as much carbon monoxide as 30 minutes of normal driving does! Speeding also doesn’t help with fuel-efficiency. Driving at 85 mph uses 25 percent more fuel than at 70 mph. So lay off the gas and take it slow and gentle. This will definitely work to your advantage in the long run. Install Window Film to Keep Cool Extreme temperatures are huge obstacles to energy saving. Using the air-conditioning drastically increases fuel consumption and emits harmful substances into the atmosphere. Besides leaving the windows open and parking in the shade, you can keep your vehicle cooler by installing window film. It is relatively inexpensive to install and extremely durable. Blocking the sunlight also has the additional benefit of reducing UV exposure, a major cause of skin cancer. Choose More Efficient Cars As the ultimate solution, you may consider getting a more eco-friendly automobile model for your next car, one that has higher fuel efficiency and less emissions. Better yet, you could choose a hybrid or electric car that emits virtually zero emissions! Kia is no stranger to green driving and energy savings, and has developed one of the most practical electric vehicles on the market, the Kia Soul EV. Electric car advocacy group Plug-In America found that driving an EV can save on average US$1,600 in fuel costs per year. From August 29th to September 7th, Kia is presenting its latest in innovation and style at the 2014 Moscow International Motor Show, also known as Moscow International Automobile Salon. The MIAS is the hottest motor show in Russia, both in terms of size and the level of attention it attracts. There, Kia is showcasing the Kia Quoris and Soul EV models, and organizers expect that Kia will attract more than 1 million attendants to the Crocus Expo during the exhibition period. Cars for the True Russia The ‘Feel the Kia Quality’ press event offered the Russian media their first ever look at the enhanced Kia Quoris and new Kia Soul EV. The modern and elegant rear-drive sedan Quoris received an especially warm reception, with its luxurious design and 3.8-liter V6 gasoline engine leaving a lasting impression with the crowd. The new Kia Soul EV, Kia’s first globally-sold electric vehicle, also celebrated its Russian premiere at the Crocus Expo. Kia is gearing up to begin producing a range of small cars at a new $1-billion plant in Monterrey, Mexico. Production is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2016, and Kia says that the plant will produce a “range of new small cars,” although they did not get into specific nameplates. Odds are, the Forte will be the first vehicle built at the plant, possibly followed by the Sportage. Kia has been experiencing a supply shortage in the United States which this new plant intends to solve with an initial annual capacity of 300,000 units. Kia also plans to leverage the new production location to try and expand in the South American market. Ik heb de Kia Sorento nu drie maanden en er stond op de teller 94.000. Ik heb er nu 10.000km bijgezet. Deze week (dinsdag) auto naar de dealer gebracht omdat deze schokte bij het optrekken in alle versnellingen Dat deed hij sinds afgelopen zondag 17 augustus. Het motormanagementlampje brandde. De dealer heeft er naar gekeken, vier bougies vervangen en nog andere werkzaamheden waaronder een nieuwe stuurpomp. Woensdag de auto opgehaald en deze reed weer fantastisch. Lampje brandde ook niet meer en ook geen gebonk bij het optrekken en bij het doortrekken in de navolgende versnellingen. Gisteren ook prima gereden. Hedenavond begon het gedonder weer, alleen brand het lampje van het motormanagement niet. Wat zou het probleem kunnen zijn? [ Banden voor en achter zijn van een ander merk, maar daar rij ik al duizenden km's mee, zal nog wel even de diepte meten en de omtrek. Schakelen doet hij ook goed. Ik hoor geen vreemde geluiden bij de aandrijving, ook even met ramen open gereden samen met mijn vader, geen bijzondere dingen, motor loopt ook mooi stationair.] Iemand een idee wat het kan zijn? For Kia, football fever didn’t end with the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil in July. After supporting this year’s World Cup as an official sponsor, this month Kia turned to Canada to sponsor and support the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with transportation vehicles and various marketing events including the Kia Mascot Friends initiative. Throughout this year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Kia is providing 70 vehicles to help transport all officials and teams across Canada. Before and during the games, Kia also held several events to help get fans engaged and excited for the U-20 Women’s World Cup. As an extension to the Kia Mascot Friends program from this year’s World Cup campaign, we held a similar event in Canada for our Kia fans. During the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Kia recognized one young female football player each from the Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal, and Moncton areas, who exemplifies excellent community involvement and spirit. The lucky players had the chance to accompany the official Women’s World Cup mascot—Shuéme—on the field at halftime during the game and host their local teams to watch the match. It looks like Germany is in the finals yet again. Congratulations to the top-placing teams. Pricing for the 2015 Kia Sportage has been officially announced. Being a carryover model from last year, the 2015 Sportage gets a small price bump of $150 to $22,645 including destination. The 2015 Kia Sportage will be available in three trims: LX, EX and SX with the base model coming standard with 17-inch wheels, Bluetooth for hands-free operation and keyless entry. Those opting for the EX trim, which starts at $26,045 will receive 18-inch wheels, LED turn signals on the side mirrors, high-performance dampers, roof rails, a rear spoiler, fog lights and chrome trim on the exterior. Both models are powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 182 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is available as an option on all models for an additional $1,500. Kia’s latest free iPad app for the Kia Soul EV lets users check out all the distinct features of the Soul EV through a digital interface, with interactive photo galleries and several videos. Explore the exterior On the app, users can click on the wide variety of exterior features of the Soul EV, like the charge port, alloy wheels (with reduced air resistance), head lamp features, and different color combinations for more detail. Explore the interior Take a look at interior features such as the gauge cluster, start button, electric parking brake, ventilated front seats/seat warmers, and the charge status indicator. The Kia Soul is living up to its name in South Korea. Pope Francis will be riding in a Soul during his five-day visit to South Korea, a drastic change from previous Popemobiles that have even consisted of a custom-built, bulletproof Mercedes-Benz and an Audi A8. Pope Francis has been an adamant supporter of compact cars and the Korean automaker stated that it was honored by the pope’s use of the Soul but declined to comment if any modifications were done to the vehicle for safety purposes. As a global automaker, Kia is always seeking opportunities to grow with local communities and firmly believes in the value of corporate social responsibility (CSR). For Kia, this just means giving back to the community—which is why Kia launched the ‘Green Light Project’ back in 2012 for communities in Africa, which help build facilities, such as new schools, that aim to provide improved access to health care and education by supporting the sustained growth of the community. Today, Kia takes another great leap in the Green Light Project with the opening of a new Green Light School in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, a small country located in Southeast Africa. Kia has built a secondary school in Lilongwe, where the majority of residents receive minimal medical care and the children’s secondary school enrollment rate is under 30 percent. With the new Green Light School, Kia hopes to help local residents have greater access to educational resources and continue to grow together as a community. Kia plans to continue supporting the local members and students by supporting local after-school programs over the next five years. The ultimate goal of the Green Light Project is to encourage social mobility so that the local community can be self-reliant and sustainable. Kia employees step out Another big part of the Green Light Project is to bring together Kia employees for meaningful social activities and engage them with Kia’s corporate values. Prior to this Green Light School opening in Malawi, just last week, a group of 24 Kia employees visited Tanzania to support the project. During the 10 days of their visit, volunteers helped with school facility construction and renovation, school bus maintenance training, in-class educational activities and home-visit programs. They even hosted an intramural sporting event for the local communities to come together and have fun. Kia has also funded the construction of a secondary school in Mozambique and several health clinics in Malawi. Kia plans to invest in the Green Light Project until 2018. In this way, Kia plans to extend the Green Light Project to other regions and continue turning the ‘green lights’ on for those communities in need.
