The 2014 Kia Optima got a minor refresh with the addition of new LEDs and standard technology, but the Korean automaker is working on a facelift for its sedan model that will make its debut in the near future. The prototype of the facelifted Kia Optima was spied by AutoGuide’s photographers as it got ready for some serious testing at the Nürburgring. Kia is celebrating a major milestone at its West Point, Georgia factory, having built its one-millionth vehicle on U.S. soil. The Korean automaker’s plant in Georgia has been operating since 2009 and was originally tasked with building the Sorento SUV. Last year, Kia spent an $100 million in order to add the Optima sedan production. The factory currently has an annual production capacity of 360,000 units. Kia is expected to enter the electric vehicle market in North America with an electric version of the Soul crossover, and AutoGuide‘s spy photographers have caught a prototype testing in Europe. Earlier reports say the Kia Soul EV will be sold in Europe, China, and the U.S. and will have a battery good for about 124 miles on a single charge. Kia has launched its marketing campaign for its 2014 Cadenza, attempting to break into the luxury market with its $35,100 sedan. The first ad has launched, titled “Impossible to Ignore” which reflects back on how much the Korean automaker has changed over the years. It features fashion model Teresa Moore as she takes the new Cadenza to her 20-year high school reunion. Prudence and a steady pace could be key factors in Kia’s bid to lure entry-level luxury buyers. Just like parent company Hyundai, the Korean automaker is now offering an upscale vehicle. Korean Automaker Kia is preparing its first North American foray into the world of electric cars with the Kia Soul EV, which is expected to launch in 2014. According to Kia World, the electric Soul will be available in the US, Europe and China, unlike Kia’s current EV, the Ray, which is only available in South Korea. Also unlike the Ray, which was made in limited quantities, the Soul EV will be a mass market vehicle. The Kia Quoris full-size luxury, rear-drive sedan has been confirmed to go on sale in America starting next year. The Korean automaker plans to price the Quoris between $50,000 to $70,000 for the U.S. market as Kia tries to break into the luxury sedan segment. Last year, Kia announced that the Sedona minivan had reached the end of its lifecycle and would be getting the axe; then the Korean automaker did a flip-flop and said it would return, just at a later time. Kia’s Chinese joint venture, Dongfeng Yueda Kia, announced the creation of a new Chinese-only brand at the Shanghai Auto Show today, called Horki. Kia says that the name is derived from two separate elements, ‘Hor’ which stands for China, and ‘Ki’ which relates to driving. Hyundai and Kia announced a recall on Wednesday that affects nearly 1.7 million vehicles, over issues with the stop lamp switch which can cause the brake lights to malfunction among other problems. Kia completed its trio of new cars in its Forte line today when it debuted the 2014 Forte Koup at the 2013 New York Auto Show. Kia is bringing a new four-door coupe concept to the Seoul Motor Show this week and the brand released a teaser image on Monday showing off the front end of the car. Kia says that the Cub concept is “styled to appeal to trend-setting urban dwellers.” It is less than 13 feet long, and features two-point LED lights that are similar to those found on the Kia Quoris. Kia has announced updates to its 2013 model year Optima Hybrid model, improving the torque of the sedan as well as its fuel efficiency. The Korean automaker has outfitted the 2013 Optima hybrid with a new electric motor that provides more horsepower, but the gasoline engine also sacrifices the same amount – seven.
