There isn’t much about Kia’s latest concept car that doesn’t suggest that the company is about to get serious about offering a sports car. Kia doesn’t currently offer a sports car, but the concept on display seems like an obvious sign that the South Korean brand is planning on changing that soon. Kia’s sports coupe concept will be fully revealed later today during the South Korean brand’s press conference, but an image of the GT4 Stinger concept has already leaked. The brand already announced that its 2+2 Detroit Show car is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine sending 315 hp through a six-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. The Kia K900 is the brand’s flagship luxury sedan that is platform mates with the Hyundai Genesis, making it no surprise that K900 nets the same fuel economy ratings with a best of 27 mpg highway. Two engines are available with the K900, either a 3.8-liter V6 that makes 311 hp or a 5.0-liter V8 that pumps out 420 hp. With the V6 under the hood, the EPA says that the K900 should return 18 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg combined. When fitted with the V8, the car is pegged to return 15 mpg city, 23 mpg highway which combine for 18 mpg. Kia is gearing up to reveal a sports car concept during the Detroit Auto Show next week, showing the last in its battery of teaser images today. The car will house a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine pumping 315 hp through a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. Those 20-inch hoops are shod in Pirelli P-Zero rubber measuring a performance-ready 235/35R20 in the front and staggered to 275/35R20 for the rear. Kia just released new details on the sports car concept it will debut during the Detroit Auto Show later this month. The concept uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to send 315 hp to the rear wheels. Hyundai and Kia have appointed a new president for their joint research and development division in hopes of restoring the automaker’s reputation after a series of quality issues this year. Kim Hae-jin will take over as the Korean automakers’ R&D chief and was previously head of the development of engines and transmissions in addition to formerly managing R&D quality control. The 2014 Kia Soul has earned a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Soul earned five stars in the frontal and side impact tests while getting four stars in the roll-over test. The 2014 Soul’s chassis features 35-percent ultrat high-strength steel and 31-percent high-strength steel. Kia has proposed a settlement for disputes regarding the Korean automaker’s restatement of fuel economy ratings from November 2012. The proposed settlement affects current and former owners and lessees of vehicles affected by the restatement, which is about 300,000 vehicles from the 2011-2013 model years. The 2014 Kia Sportage will start from $22,450 including destination, reflecting a price increase of $2,600 compared to the 2013 model year. Kia is recalling nearly 80,000 Sedona minivans for a faulty suspension part that can break and possibly lead to loss of control. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the cause of the recall is the lower control arms near the wheels, which can rust and break due to salt exposure. Kia has officially announced that its all-electric Soul will be available in the U.S. starting next year. The Kia Soul EV will be the Korean automaker’s first all-electric, zero-emissions vehicle available outside of Korea and will have a target range of over 120 miles.
