SEE ALSO: 10 Worst Car Brands in Initial Quality This year, the industry average was 112 problems per 100 vehicles with 15 automakers besting the average and 18 automakers scoring …

Kia’s Sportspace concept won’t evolve into a station wagon version of the new Optima that debuted in New York last week. “We looked at it. It’s a beautiful car and obviously it’s a big deal in Europe mainly because they love estates over there,” Kia Motors America product planning vice president Orth Hendricks said. The company hinted at the possibility of an estate version of the Optima last March when it showcased the Sportspace concept in Switzerland. “What we found is that [an Optima wagon customer] is right on top of our Sorento buyer.” The Optima is Kia’s best-selling product in the U.S. where last year the company reported 159,020 sales compared to the Sorento…

The 2016 Kia Optima just debuted here at the New York Auto Show after going through a careful transition into a new generation under the watchful eye of supreme design leader Peter Schreyer. Following closely in the footsteps Kia imprinted during the Geneva Motor Show with its Sportspace concept, the new Optima looks like a step in the right direction for the South Korean auto brand. Two powertrains from the previous generation – a 2.4-liter direct injection four-cylinder engine and a 2.0-liter turbocharged direct injection four-pot – carry over offering 185 hp and 247 respectively. A new trademark filing by Kia suggests a possible adoption of all-wheel drive to its flagship sedan. But that’s not all. Last week the Korean automaker renewed an earlier filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the terms K100x to K900x, inclusive. “That seems like like an indication that AWD is on the way,” said Dave Sullivan, product analysis manager for AutoPacific, Inc. Despite an overwhelming increase in recalls, satisfaction among recall customers has improved according to the 2015 Consumer Service Index (CSI) Study released by J.D. Power. The market as a whole saw a slight decline in overall satisfaction this year but customers who take their vehicle to a dealer for recall-related work saw its score improve to 789 from 777 in 2014. Consequently there is now an 11-point gap in satisfaction between customers with a recall visit and those with a non-recall visit, compared to a gap of 27 points last year and 21 points in 2013. Having a car with heated rear seats is almost as altruistic as keeping your guest bathroom stocked with rolls of Charmin Ultra Soft. Although drivers and front-seat passengers are often treated to heated buckets, the folks in the back literally left in the cold all too often.Heated front seats used to be a luxury item, but that really isn’t true anymore. But what about people in the back? Believe it or not, you don’t need to spend like a king to treat friends and family members to a heated tuchus. Kia will soon offer a midsize station wagon… In Europe. Previewing the upcoming Optima wagon, the Korean automaker debuted the Sportspace concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and was quick to confirm that it’s heading to production. Designed by the company’s European design studio in Frankfurt, its styling carries international influence, taking the existing traditional Kia design but adding a bit of spice to make it even sportier and more attractive. 2015 Geneva Motor Show Coverage It is unlikely that the production Optima wagon will arrive North America given how unfavored wagons are in the U.S. What can be expected is the styling to trickle down to other Kia mode…

Do you love wagons? I love wagons, and the Kia Sportspace concept is a perfect example of why. This is the latest design to come from Kia’s European design studio in Frankfurt and – presumably – a preview of the next-generation Optima. And if this is any indication of how the next Optima is going to look, the future is bright. Hallmark design elements from the brand like the tiger nose grille are intact, but the Sportspace takes the trendy look Kia already has going and makes it even more attractive. 2015 Geneva Motor Show Coverage Bear in mind that this is a concept car that Kia designed for Europe, so it probably isn’t an indication that there will be a wagon ver…

This winter just doesn’t seem to want to go away. During these soul-crushingly low temperatures, we’ve become quite fond of cars that are equipped with heated steering wheels, a premium feature that doesn’t need to be reserved for expensive luxury vehicles. Folks in southern states might not get the appeal, but for drivers who live in colder climates, a heated tiller is like a warm hug for your hands. Why not wear gloves you may ask? Well, so many cars have touch-screen infotainment systems or small buttons that make using gloves in a car cumbersome. After spending some time configuring hundreds of them, we came up with this list of affordable nameplates that are e…

The next-generation Kia Optima is being previewed in the new Sportspace Concept, set to be revealed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Kia designed the Sportspace to bring new sexy style to the European wagon segment with its aggressive face and sloping angles. Power comes from the Korean brand’s diesel-electric T-Hybrid system which includes a 1.7-liter diesel that is now twin charged, with a conventional turbo that is supported by an electric booster. Kia says the booster helps produce torque at low speeds. An active multi-link rear axle is also used on this concept to allow temporary all-wheel drive. Power to all four wheels will be necessary when heading to the ski …

Kia will recall the 2016 Sorento crossover only a few weeks after reaching the market to address a defect with the accelerator. Documents filed with the National Transportation Safety Administration show that Kia intends to recall 12,361 copies of the CUV that were manufactured between October 27, 2014, and January 29, 2015. Thanks to advanced turbocharging technologies, three-cylinder engines are becoming more popular among automakers. Kia is the latest to join the fray, announcing its 1.0 T-GDi Kappa engine, a turbocharged three-cylinder with 118 hp and 127 lb-ft of torque. To help improve efficiency, the 1.0-liter engine uses a single-scroll turbo with an electrically-operated wastegate and has a relatively flat torque curve with maximum twist coming in at just 1,500 RPMs and staying consistent to 4,100 RPMs. Getting technical, the new powerplant features laser-drilled injectors with six holes each, which are laid out in a pyramid configuration to allow a more even spread through each …
