Kia is teasing a “provocative and racy new urban concept car” ahead of this year’s Geneva Motor Show. Looking like a coupe in the photo above, other angles clearly show higher-riding crossover elements, similar to the MINI Paceman. Based on the Hyundai Azera, the Kia Cadenza just made its way into the public eye here at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, marking Kia’s entrance into the premium-sedan segment. The Kia Cadenza will reportedly make its official production debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, marking the brand’s foray into the premium segment. Hyundai and Kia are making a change to their telematics setups, announcing today that both companies will be integrating Google Maps into their vehicles navigation systems. Both Kia’s UVO system and Hyundai’s Blue Link will now use Google Maps to search for locations and directions, and Google Places to find points of interest and information about them. This will make finding locations and information easier as Google Maps and Google Places are constantly being updated with new information. Legendary designer Peter Schreyer, most known for his work at Audi, has been appointed as the first non-Korean president of Kia Motors. Schreyer was hired from Volkswagen back in 2006, and is credited with Kia’s ‘Tiger Nose’ design which can now be found on the front end of almost every vehicle in the brand’s lineup. The promotion makes Schreyer one of three presidents of the company. Schreyer was originally hired to help the Korean brand overhaul its entire lineup, to give them a better global portfolio. Last month, Hyundai shocked the automotive world when the Korean automaker issued a recall of its fuel economy claims on several models across its lineup, including vehicles from Kia. Now there’s a suspicion that insider trading took place prior to the announcement, when the automaker’s stock fell four percent on November 1st, a day before the announcement was made. Hyundai and Kia’s mpg claims were recently found to be incorrect when compared to the real world numbers, and now it seems that one of the big three American automakers may have called them out. Kia has confirmed that a fast version of the Pro_cee’d will be coming to take on the Ford Focus ST and Volkswagen GTI, though the brand has already said that the Pro_cee’d GT is not destined for the U.S. The Pro_cee’d GT will use a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine sourced from the Veloster turbo that makes 200 hp, mated exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission according to CAR. After admitting to overstating fuel mileage on many of their cars, both Hyundai and Kia are seeing “purchase intent” numbers dropping, according to data from Edmunds. Hyundai and Kia’s marketing heavily relied on their vehicles achieving 40 mpg or more, but the brand’s images have now been tainted by the mpg mess up, and share prices have already taken a hit because of it. A couple of weeks ago, Kia debuted five Justice League concept models at the 2012 SEMA Show, and now the Korean automaker has released a video of the unveiling. In a sea of modified and custom cars, setting yourself apart from the crowd is no easy task. This year, Kia decided the best way to do so was to create superhero-inspired rides from its model lineup, which turned out to be a huge hit with the show goers. A second lawsuit is now being brought against Hyundai and Kia for their incorrect mpg claims, seeking $775 million on behalf of 23 plaintiffs.
